The hotel was very old and dated limited parking and dirty I had to clean the hotel room myself sweep mop and wipe the furniture down.

We have been coming here for years. We have never seen this place in such bad shape.
Cigarette butts were everywhere even in the pool. The grass was very high and sandspurs were everywhere.
The first room we were put in had such an awful smell. We asked to be moved to a different room and they moved us with no issues.
The second room smelled fine but was not very clean. The bottom of our socks got dirty from the floor. The outlets were not very good. Our chargers wouldn't even stay in the sockets.
We tried to sit in one of the chairs and kept feeling like something was biting us but we couldn't see anything.
There are so many other things too both inside and outside the motel.
We checked out early.

Worth the money but really needs some TLC. The staff was great.

Another beautiful stay at the amazing Sands. There was a slight snafu but the mgr was willing to work the situation out with me. The rooms could be cleaner, but I get its a smaller property with few employees.

If you're coming to this 77yo property looking for shiny perfection, this is not the spot for you. The humans were awesome, view was perfect, pool was comfortable and the sand was steps away allowing an amazing FL sunset to shine thru whilenfloating 8n the pool. They had sand and pool toys/games to borrow, volleyball court and more. It may not be considered "immaculate," but The Sands has so much character and energies. I'm not sure why people write such bad reviews. You're not going to pay so "little" and get a corporate ran place. But you will get a more homey experience and down to earth people. You get what you pay for, but in this case, we definitely came out happier and more calm than expected.. oh! My kid loves they still have keys 😂 he's known nothing but key cards. I wish this treasure could be around forever.

I hope this place never goes away. It’s a dream. And Izzy at the front desk was awesome .

Perfect location, very friendly people, wasn’t bad by any means but rooms are def run down. Funky smell and blinds were falling apart so everyone walking bout could see in our room.

Nice vintage resort. My second time here.

Very old a/c and beds terrible

Save your money and stay somewhere else. This property is nothing like the pictures on the website. This place is rundown and dirty. The beds are uncomfortable and when we unfolded the sleeper sofa to use it a dust cloud happened. The bathroom is dirty and small and when we opened the stove in the kitchen it had at least 2 inches of grease in the bottom of it and smelled terrible. I would not recommend staying here at all. We couldn't find anything good about the place. They only have a small amount of parking spots out front which fill up quickly, so you have to park down the road and walk. The pool was dirty and didn't even smell like it had chlorine in it. The rooms smelled bad and had sand and dirt all over the floors at check in.

The room was poorly advertised as the pics depicted a very updated room. The floor was very dirty, our feet were black, the bed was comfortable because it was soft but the air congruent work well, The bathroom was dated and needed repair work, cracked drywall, stained tub etc.
it said ocean view but we could barely see a slight view of the ocean that was far away and had to be walked to and blocked by the trees and part of the hotel and etc.
We were disappointed and went to as mother hotel for the remainder of our stay.

Very outdated and not super clean.
But the price reflected.
On a good note the beach is very close and there are great places to eat close by.

What happened ? The employees was fantastic, the owners let this place go down hill

The gentleman that helped me in the front office was awesome. The hotel is dated and the beds were not comfortable but the customer was outstanding and the location was amazing and it was also clean. For the price I paid it was a good deal.

The sands is a really great place to visit in Florida

Very nice and very nice people

Conveniently located a d beachfront! Built in 1947 and its got a very cool retro vibe! I'd go again!

I’m definitely not a fancy type of person, cheap room, called for a remote and someone was right there to give us another one

The property wasn’t too bad being 77 yrs old but some simple maintenance would make it easier on eyes. It’s hard not to notice ceiling paint peeling dramatically in some areas and all the AC units looked like they were rusted trash in the walls. I liked the courtyard and how they really stayed with the retro style chairs. The walk to beach was long but right in your backyard and the pool was nice. Staff were all friendly and talk to you. My one and only DISLIKE was the parking situation. There are only 10-12 spots in front of hotel then the rest are across street down one block and it’s a busy street to cross. My stay was nice and I enjoyed having the apartment style room so we could cook.

Location was the only asset of this hotel. Proximity to beach was great.

Loved it here overall. The mini fridge could’ve worked better and same for the AC, but overall it was a nice stay. The staff were very friendly and the place was cool.

Great location easy going crowd and staff. Amazing looking great deal

Great room

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the property is right on the beach with a nice view.

This was a terrible place to stay. There was mold in the bathroom, paint hanging from the ceiling. The headboard was peeling. The side walk was uneven and dangerous. There was a giant cockroach in the bedroom. It was terrible
3.6
A nice day at a beach hotel that was reasonably priced. Needs updating but I only needed hotel for the bed which was fine. Had a full size refrigerator and a stove.
3.6
Absolutely terrible experience! The property was dirty and gross, nothing like the pictures portrayed. It feels like a complete fraud. There are rumors circulating that the property is slated for demolition in Fall 2024, making it seem like they're just taking your money for nothing.

The positive: the view of the beach from our room was nice. The workers were friendly. The beds was very comfortable. The location was perfect and the beach was beautiful.
The negative: the refrigerator didn’t work so we lost the perishables we had purchased. The desk person tried to give directions on how to get it working…pretty sure I knew more than he did. Then the refrigerator leaked water halfway across the room, and it stunk. The shades fell down when we tried to open them. The lock on the door wad almost impossible to open. The grounds were dumpy looking. I’m sure at one time they were great. Parking was a block down the street. Sidewalks were dangerously uneven and the walkway was littered with miscellaneous cleaning buckets, brooms, toilet brushes, etc. It didn’t look like anyone really cared about the place.

This property was so old, pictures looked good online but when we got there, the room was old, but clean as clean could be I guess. Still looked like stuff from the 70s. There were stains on furniture and it felt gross. The area is great and the beach is a few steps away which is great. Definitely an old beach motel with decor from the day it opened. Check in was good and everyone was nice.

Loved it there!

Beach is beautiful and staff were very friendly and helpful

Great stay the staff was friendly and check in was quick. I love that's there no requirement for deposit and resort fees. This is a very old hotel. If you are expecting modern and 5 star accommodations for the price they charge skip this place you are not going to get it. They could do better with the cleaning. The floors were dirty and the kitchen stove and fridge were not wiped down properly. The location was ideal right on the beach and quick 5 min drive to Johns Pass . There's isnt much room in front of the building for parking which makes loading and unloading your stuff difficult. However I additional parking is in a cover lot which helps keep your vehicle cool from the heat. I honestly think if they just spent some quality time just replacing the broken blinds and slight touch up to the rooms. Would definitely help with getting repeat busy. Overall I would stay again just for the nostalgia and location.
3.6
Our first impression with the staff was amazing, so friendly and makes connections. The cleanliness of the rooms fell short. There were hair bows on door knobs from prior guests. There were glow sticks on the floor from an aparent rager. The floors did seem to have a film on them from a cleaning product residue so we kept our socks on. We had a room with windows and they opened to get an amazing ocean breeze. We saw the effort and appreciated everything. Would return.

The people and the view

Nice older renovated beach hotel, could use better cleaning methods no personal laundry onsite also full kitchen but no real cookware, plastic plates cups. Great people working there helpful nice. Beach Access great

Close to beach

Let’s face it. The place was built in 1947. While I think they have done a good job keeping it up things a still a little outdated and old. Was there for a cousins wedding. The place felt very homey. Like I was staying at a family members house and sitting in the courtyard was like sitting on their back porch.

Stripped of furniture

2 words - Whata Dump. We found out they are tearing the place down in August and its obvious they are neglecting its current state. They should be ashamed of themselves for charging the current rate. Do yourself a favor and find another place to stay.
