I visited Sunscape in 2019 and liked the resort and specially the food and decided to return this summer 2024 with my family, 12 people total, 4 different rooms. I noticed that the property hasn't been maintained, it looks ran down. I upgraded to a suit with beach view and it looked very old, furniture, couch, everything looked old. The bed sheet has a blood stain and twice we had to call to get it replaced. House keeping was always late and we had to call, one day they didn't even leave towels. The food was bad, nothing like what it used to be. The dining was also limited. Lines were very long and when they would finally sit us, there were not enough waiters to serve our drinks, and we couldn't do it ourselves because the buffet didn't give us the option to serve our own drinks. The pool lounge chairs were always taken. One employee specifically watched over 6 chairs because the guests gave him money. It didn't seem fair at all. The beach didn't have enough seating and we were not allowed to use the towels at the beach. The bar didn't have chairs or stools to sit on. Bar line was also long all the time. There was less seating available from what it used to be. Lack of communication between employees. No AC or fans in lobby area. Lot's of bees at the buffet restaurant, which made it difficult to eat. The only restaurant I enjoyed what the Italian one, great service. However, I would NOT return or recommend Sunscape.

I did not like the fact that I was charged a early (11am) check in fee and was not given a room until regular check in time (3pm). Hotel staff advised me that i only paid to eat and drink early and i did not pay for the room. When I finally got my room, I noticed it wasn’t the room I had booked. I brought this up to the staff and they advised they were doing this for me as a favor. When I walked into my room I noticed it was hot and the AC was not working. In addition, the room was next to the party pool, which is what i was trying to avoid. The staff then changed me to a different room, and advised they would rather me stay in this room instead of refunding me my money. The room was still hot and humid and the AC in this room was unacceptable. The food at this resort was poor and its not worth the high price I paid for this resort. I would recommend you avoid this resort unless you want a mediocre hotel. This is by far the worst resort I have ever stayed in while vacationing in Mexico.

Terrible. A/C not working and nothing was done to make it better or offer better service to accommodate us.

If it wasnt for the staff, i would not recommend this hotel. Special thanks to Ivan, Victor, Gus, and Alex for the great service to me and my family. To the bell hop crew Angel, Christian, amd Ismael thank you for a great start and finish to our vacation.

the bed was good. The place was clean. staff was very courteous
I only ate at the buffet and the food was horrible. One would expect much much better from an all inclusive package since the food is one major reason you go for an all inclusive package and dont intend to go anywhere else to eat. I did not eat at the other restaurants so i cannot say about those. But due to the issue with the buffet, I will never stay at Sunscape again.

All the staff is very nice and helpful. The room had an unpleasant smell and there were flies and mosquitoes in the room. The pool water was not clear it was cloudy.

The property is decent, but you can tell is outdated. There were water leaks inside the restaurant, Tiki Taco, which is not something I expect at any hotel. The pool and water park hours are terrible! The water park is only open for 5 hours in the afternoon. It seemed like many locals come to this place. They would come to the pool before it opens and save seats and not come back until later in the day. Such a shame because others can't use those chairs. The pool was dirty, and it doesn't seem to have a regular cleaning cycle but only when they do it manually in the mornings. The beach was gross! I get that the ocean brings out debris and algae, but I've stayed at other resorts where they clean it every day so the area looks clean. I didn't even want to take pictures on the beach because it looked so dirty. The AC in the room worked, but something is off. Not sure if it is because is old, not getting serviced properly, or just how hard it works with the weather, but there is this off smell when you walk in. All the clothes we put in the closet smelled like it! We had extra clothes for the "just in case" when traveling with children and they all absorbed that musty smell from the room. Two of the 3 elevators were broken! It was hard to check out because of our luggage with only one working elevator. Food was ok, not great. Kids club is small but staff there was great.

Very limited food choices at buffet, music at the pool was bad, entertainment team dont have microphones so you couldn’t really hear them. Hotel needs renovation

The room wasn’t very clean, the lights in the bathroom were not working correctly. And when we would call to ask for more water it sounded like it was a bother.
3.0
Most staff was friendly. Rooms are definitely not matching current pictures and ours in particular had small details that hindered the comfort durning our stay. The mattresses seemed outdated, several lights in our room were non functional and the room constantly had a damp smell which is understandable given that most people come in and out with wet clothes.

The Hotel and staff were awesome . The food was not so great . They need more variety.

Hotel was in horrible conditions. Ac didn’t work. Mold and rust in bathroom. Holes in wall. overall it was not good.

We loved our experience at Sunscape. The staff was friendly and helpful. The water park area was perfect for our kids (5 and 9). It was awesome being steps from the beach. The nightly entertainment was fun and the daily activities were enjoyable. It was hard to leave! I think the only area that could use some improvement would be the food options and quality, although we did always find something to eat that we enjoyed.
3.0
Great entertainment but staff look exhausted and not wanting to work. Food was really bad, every food station had day or two old food. The food courts would also question you on the amount of food intake, worst experience. The rooms need an update but overall big rooms.

Property was wonderful not much of a nightlife in the surrounding area. But over all the hotel it’s self is quiet charming.

I honestly don’t know how this hostel has 4 stars on Expedia. If you are used to actually being in a 4 star hotel you would be very disappointed if you booked this. First off it’s a time share hotel style so it’s not your typical all inclusive. The staff seemed to hate their job and made sure to make any little detail inconvenient for the customer. Our a/c was not working as soon as we checked in and it took them over 2 hours to change us to another room. The pool are was very warn out, my daughter even got cut on one end because the tile was broken. Also we were in the lobby playing cards at 1 am, we didn’t have any music, we didn’t have our kids there just 4 adults playing a card game and they kicked us out. They said no one was allowed in any lobby/ bar/ restaurant area after 1 am. If we wanted to talk or sit around we had to go to the beach area! I normally don’t write reviews but I just want to give people a heads up. If you are used to nice all inclusive resorts, this is not the one!

Nice pool, recreation area, most of the staff were amazingly nice. Food something was not that great although do have to give a shout out to Wendy making the omelets in that extreme heat - god bless her soul, Antelmo who brought us drinks was an amazing person. The beds were not all that comfortable, It was a nightmare trying to get 1 night of our stay refunded due to airline cancelling flight - American Airlines also needs some work on how to take care of customers, and part of luggage was not loaded onto our shuttle back to the airport so had to spend double to go back to hotel to get it as the hotel blamed it on us for not getting it loaded.

Kid-friendly property, with high chairs, crib/playpen available, useful junior suite layout for family. Slide area could be open more than 12-5, hotest time of the day, when kids would benefit from cooler earlier and later hours. Buffet restaurant has rigid rules about males wearing even designer sleeveless shirts, shorts and flipflops. With families would be helpful to have a more relaxed area, other than the food truck, which is useful but also very limited in hours and menu. 24 hr cafe was a treasure, both for morning coffee/fruit/pastry and something for late night. Overall enjoyed Sunscape with several families gathering together. Uber was extremely efficient means of transportation to get to points of interest outside of the property.
5.0
Family-friendly for 1 and 7 yr old. Great splash pad/water slide area perfect for the very young, although could use shaded areas/seating for adults watching over kids. Nice buffet with wide selection, though dress code of no sleeveless shirts for men (anything for women) was over the top. Tico Taco was a favorite restaurant. Could use expanded selections at the Food Truck, as well as seating, for times when this is the only real food option.
Check-in was a bit arduous, as rooms not ready. But overall a good family vacation.

Food was generally good, our favorite of the buffets Tiki Taco, but to our dismay it was closed one night that was important to us, so that was not good.

The property wasnt in great shape. Only 1 elevator in service, which cause massive delays going to room etc and down, to the point where we walked up and down stairs to our 7th floor room. Pool bar opens way to late, sometimes not until noon, while the pool is full with guests by 10am. Staff were friendly, rooms were ok, could use some more drawers etc. Beach was nice, pool was nice. Food was ok at best.

Check in was horrible. They took forever and there was a long line. I had to pay extra for my child because this property considers 12 and over adults. Which is not what orbitz considers when you do a search. They had one elevator working so the wait was long, and sometimes it wouldn’t work so I had to take the service elevator. The doors slam so your neighbors doors would wake you up. It’s also noisy. The cards deactivate if they are close to your phone so it was an inconvenience to walk down again for it. Most the staff was nice but there was a couple that were rude. There’s a dress code for everything and Food was blah. I go to PV often and I am definitely not staying there again!

The common areas were very clean and well maintained. The rooms could use a little updating but were very clean. Housekeeping did amazing! They were very attentive and the concierge was great as well. The onsite Dr was nice but needed to be clear on basic payment practices. Lots of room for improvement on her part. They had a wonderful buffet area. Staff was wonderful but 1 person in particular wasn't clear on the dress code. My husband was turned away for wearing a tank shirt and we politely changed, no problem, we respect their rules. However when we came back there was a woman wearing a thong and a transparent shirt who was allowed in. Don't understand how thong is appropriate??? Next day i saw a gentleman in a tank as well. I was a little disappointed in the treatment.

Second time staying at this hotel. First time was great, but it has gone down in quality. The staff is great, and tends to go above and beyond to help. The hotel itself needs work - the pool specially. Tiles missing, water not clear - not inviting. The buffet also had way less choices for a healthy meal than before. The rooms are looking a little different than the pictures too - dated, and in need of a facelift. The location is good, and the beach is great for long walks.

Great choice for a budget vacation. Hotel is 3 stars not 4 as it is shown on Google. Building is old but fully functional.

Close to Malecon.
Location is excellent. Food was very good with lots of choices. Pool was quite busy
so bartenders were busy.
Beach was beautiful with plenty of space 😍

Special shout-out to Eric, captain of the bellhops, for going above and beyond for me on my first trip to Mexico.
I chose this resort as a "budget friendly" option and I was very happy with my selection.
Yes, the pool could use some touch ups on the tilework but overall I had a lovely time.

The property was horrible. The food service was horrible. The customer service was average. The rooms were horrible. The pictures from the rooms online does not match the rooms when you arrive. I wouldn’t recommend this property ever. Major updates. Need to be done.

We had a family vacation here and it was wonderful. Staff was very helpful and always friendly. The facilities were always clean and everything was gorgeous. The food at the restaurants was okay but for anyone with dietary restrictions, options were limited but you can make it work. You do need to get towels on patio chairs around 8am to ensure you get a spot of your choosing. They will pick up towels if you leave them too long unattended so leave your cheap flip flops with it. We booked excursions right at the hotel, and were able to get Uber or taxis to pick up directly in front and staff will call for taxis for you. Part of our family took advantage of the “babysitting” service. Kids got to do activities and staff took them for meals and played in the kids pool area. This is a great place for the price.
(I’m vegan and I was able to have enough food options even though they were limited)

Great employees, great location, beautiful view of bay and mountains.

Had a great time with family at sunscape. There are some areas that are in need of repair but overall was great. Also needs more food options.

A/c in room would make noise and would leak from ceiling more then once while there and didn’t care to move us rooms. Water from shower leaked out. Laundry there is very expensive! They gave us vouchers but we’re only able to use them in very limited areas(we didn’t even get to use them). We had to travel outside of hotel to be able to use one coupon per person. Unbelievable! Food was always the same. Italian restaurant only ages 8 and up were able to dine in. Dress code they would send the guys back to put on a T-shirt because they were unable to wear a tank top shirt while dinning and we were on “vacation”
We learned from this experience. I would travel to puerto Vallarta but not to this resort. The help was not all that great.

The resort is ok, service was good and food too. A lot of rocks in front of the ocean. Its a little overpriced for what you get.
