I went on her and saw an 8.8 excellent rating. Sorry, this is not true, I should have taken pictures I dropped something behind the bed and had to retrieve it so dirty. It is definitely in need of an upgrade, smells moldy and pictures of the original building on the walls says 1970. My husband said its ok its only for one night. The area defiantly needs newer hotels. I would hope when people see the pictures like I did it is of the main hotel where you check in which was the Williamsburg Inn.

Check in was very good, the staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was enormous and comfortable. It did smell of smoke however (there is a real fireplace in the room). There were small things that could have been improve, The shower shelf was tilted so nothing would stay on it, the toilet was quite low, which matters to older folk. The interesting thing is the guide said Fox News was on channel 22, but channel 22 was MTV. There was a gap in the channel Guide listing between 60 and 65, Guess what FN was 64, so you really had to hunt for it...hmmm

The employees were courteous & friendly. The room was spacious but dated. It needed painting and the sofa had spots and extremely stained. The carpet was old, coming up and rolled in a few locations. There is no elevator to the second floor making it difficult for seniors or handicapped folks. When checking out we were charged $ 32.00 per day for parking, use of the pool and gym. We were advised of those facilities when checking in but not told there would be a fee to use them. It is a great location to old colonial section 0f Williamsburg.

If you're looking for a convenient clean room for the night this is a terrible option. Its a resort, better suited for travelers that want to be pampered.
This was the worst check in experience I've been through. While the check in staff was excellent, be aware (as I wasnt) that the check location is an entirely different name than the hotel. Williamsburg Inn I believe. Parking is incredibly inconvenient everywhere on site. The room was in a location about 1/4 to half mile away, down pitch black roads.
The room itself was impeccable in every way.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Griffin Hotel. The outdoor space is wonderful and very well maintained. We really enjoyed the balcony off our room overlooking the pond. The walking convenience to Colonial Williamsburg is very nice. The negative side was the room itself. It really needs updating and had a musty smell. The furniture was pretty beat up and the sofa had several large stains. It made the room feel not as clean as it could/ should have been.

I thought it was great! The staff were very accommodating and helpful with questions regarding the hotel as well as things around the area.

We love Williamsburg and drive the 3 hours to stay there a few times a year. The Griffin is great for pets with plenty of green space around the buildings. It's a very nice park-like setting. Like most "last generation" facilities it needs some upgrades but it's still a great place and value. We book it every time.

Very relaxing, and it was nice for walking distance to different things around

We have stayed here many times. Nice to see some the same faces at checkin and always pleasant to be greeted by the men out front. They are going through some changes with the keycard system. Our problem was quickly handled.

This collection of properties is spectacular overall. It is wonderful that all guests, regardless of which property you're staying, have privileges at the various 5-star amenities of the Williamsburg Inn and can enjoy the gorgeous grounds.
However, I was very disappointed with the check-in process. Check-in is at 4:00, and we arrived around 1:00. At that point, we did not expect our room to be ready, which is was not, and we happily went over to the pool for relaxation and lunch. However, it would have been nice if perhaps our room could have been prioritized with the cleaning staff. It clearly was not. At 4:00, we walked back to reception only to find our room was still not ready. We were asked to sit and wait "for 5-10 minutes." In that time, other guests flowed in and out of reception checking in and getting their room keys. We finally received our keys at 4:30. Staff was courteous about it, but not overly apologetic nor did they acknowledge that they could have done better. While I did not feel discriminated against for being a guest of the Griffin (3-star) at the pool, club house, or anywhere else, I do think we were perhaps at the bottom of the list when it comes to check-in. It just left a bad taste in my mouth.
I would probably stay here again but would be hyper-aware of the possibility of being labeled second-class as a guest of their lowest rated property, which, by the way, was perfectly nice, if a little plain.

Loved the pond and trees; loved the peaceful vibe

The property is very run-down and outdated, not as advertised. The rooms are old and musty, and the AC is so loud that it’s impossible to sleep. While the location is great, the place itself is damp and uncomfortable. Disappointed!!

Amazing historical place to visit plus Buschgarden is near by, great dining and breakfast options around, we are family with kids and a dog and all had a wonderful time, thank you to the resort for the hospitality, we can not wait to come back again!

Excellent location in the midst of historical Williamsburg.

Our room at the Griffin Hotel Gold Building was so much more than we expected. From the previous reviews we expected the room to be horrible but it was so much more than that. It was beautiful and roomy .
We had a dog and our room had a patio which was perfect for walks. The hotel is in the perfect spot to the Williamsburg Village of Colonial homes. You are in walking distance of shops and restaurants . We had breakfast at the Williamsburg Inn and it was really good. Expensive but the service was impeccable, top notch waiters and so very worth the price!!

Grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The furniture and carpeting is worn and outdated. The bedding is clean, beds are comfortable. The bathroom had quite a bit of mold, and I scrubbed it. Rooms are spacious and good for families.

Walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg, avoid parking issues by leaving the car at the hotel.

The hotel room was a very nice size the slept up to 6, but it is very outdated.
8.0 / 10.0
Bed was uncomfortable and bouncy. Pillows were lumpy and there was a huge space between the bed and headboard where all the pillows would get stuck.
3.0 / 10.0
The past part about the hotel was that it was close to the Williamsburg Inn, allowing us to escape from the Griffin Hotel.
The grounds surrounding the hotel were not well maintained. The room had a musty smell and the large opening to the patio was filthy. The bathroom required proper cleaning and the rooms needed to be repainted. Paint was coming off the walls. The water pressure in the shower was extremely deficient and the stopper in the bath tub was not working in that it would close when you did not want it to - thereby resulting in standing water.

Love everything about Colonial Williamsburg!

The room was large and comfortable for our family of four. I wish it had had a microwave, and there were some areas in need of updating. But the bed, shower, and furniture were all comfortable. The patio was lovely.

Great location! Rooms are very dated but comfortable. The balcony is nice and spacious. No elevator. We had to ask for regular coffee because we were only left decaf both days of our stay. There's also a heafty resort fee for amenities that we didn't use.

Resort fee was a big surprise. Did I not read some fine print?

Thee Griffin did not disappoint. Right in the middle of Colonial Williamsburg, the Griffin is close to everything that IS the Williamsburg experience. Although the property has some years on it, it has been maintained well and everything was clean and neat. We will definitely come back!
4.0 / 10.0
We liked the spacious room with the separated area for the bathroom, as well as the spacious balcony. The location was convenient for sightseeing in Colonial Williamsburg, as everything was within walking distance. The room had a strong perfume-y smell when you first enter but we adjusted to it fairly quickly so it was not a problem. Although I agree with other reviews that it could use some updating, we enjoyed our stay. The service at the centralized Williamsburg Inn was excellent!

We love staying at The Griffin. It's spacious, clean, and comfortable. Plus, it's in walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg.
6.0 / 10.0
The overall property is really beautiful. However, The Griffin Hotel needs some major renovations particularly in the bathrooms as the paint is peeling from the ceiling and it is quite outdated.
8.0 / 10.0
Big, nice room with a pretty view. Nice helpful cleaning staff.
One sink, stopper did not work. Tub stopper replaced with one requiring guest to lean down and open with finger. Mismatched uncomfortable furniture. Place in need of interior update - improvement.

loved the room big clean right in town
