Come enjoy the cool mountain air at "The Shortstack," a recently-remodeled 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom home at 8,800 feet elevation in the Village of Cloudcroft.

~~~ OUR LOCATION ~~~

The house is perched on a half-acre lot, tucked into a grove of rustling aspens and surrounded by towering pine trees. It's located on a quiet street just 1 mile from Burro Street's restaurants and shops or The Lodge and its famous mountaintop golf course (both a quick drive or 20-minute walk). Cloudcroft is surrounded by thousands of acres of the Lincoln National Forest, with scenic drives and miles of beautiful forested trails. Plus, White Sands National Park is only a 45-minute drive!

~~~ "THE SHORTSTACK" ~~~

The house was extensively remodeled in 2022, including brand-new appliances, floors, granite countertops, kitchen and bathroom fixtures, and more!

The Shortstack also has over 700 sq. ft. of brand-new decking, including a huge south-facing deck with seating where you can enjoy sunsets and starry skies. Wildlife such as elk, mule deer, hummingbirds and more are frequent visitors.

The home features two bedrooms, both with brand-new Casper mattresses:

* Primary bedroom (with king bed) on the main floor with direct access to a full bathroom
* Bedroom on the second floor (with queen bed) with an attached bathroom

The upstairs bedroom also has a small room adjacent with a twin bed, plus a twin trundle under the queen bed.

The fully-appointed kitchen has an electric range, new fridge, new dishwasher, coffee maker, blender, microwave, kettle, and all the cookware and utensils you will need! There's an island with storage space for groceries and counter-height seating (four wooden stools). Just outside the kitchen door is a new Weber gas grill, perfect for cookouts and barbecue.

The living room features a wood-burning stove and a TV with sound bar and Chromecast for streaming. There are also a range of games for you to enjoy. This room also includes the dining area with an expandable table and four chairs. There are extra chairs stored nearby if you need to add seating around the table.

~~~ ACCESSING THE HOUSE ~~~

"The Shortstack" is on the south side of the Village of Cloudcroft, a short drive from US Highway 82. The roads are easy to navigate and mostly paved. There is a driveway from the street with parking for a couple of vehicles. Please be advised there are 26 steps leading from the driveway to the entrance.

The Shortstack is by far the best short term rental we have ever stayed in. It’s a beautiful and comfortable place- we felt so at home and relaxed there. The place was spotless, the beds were comfy, with high quality towels and linens and there was plenty of closet space to put away our clothes and suitcases. The kitchen was very modern and well equipped - nicer than my kitchen at home. All the thoughtful touches were so appreciated- from all the hangars in the closet to the nightlight in the bathroom. And all of this surrounded by natural beauty and wildlife. There are 3 deck areas where you can hang out, relax and enjoy the surroundings. There is easy access to area hikes and the owner provided a notebook chock full of information about hikes, restaurants, shops etc. This was the perfect getaway!

What a fantastic discovery in the village of Cloudcroft! It was cozy and quaint… we could step right outside and stargaze. It was close to town and wonderful eats and wineries. And the cake we had made for our birthday celebration by Eat the Cale was phenomenal!! All in all, this hidden gem is a must to return to!

This was our first trip to Cloudcroft and we wanted to be close to the town, but also have some trees and space around us. Shortstack was incredible; location and home were unbeatable. The home was very well appointed (a gorgeous and well equiped kitchen and quality towels and linens) and there also was wonderful artwork throughout. We used the upstairs bedroom because the sky lights and upper front windows were so awesome. We could see the stars from our bed. It was like being in a tree house. We also made good use of the new decking and sat outside to read and relax. Early morning deer came on the property. Jake and Lori were very responsive when we had a question. You couldn't ask for a better home or for better owners.

The Shortstack was exactly as described and better than I had imagined. Six of us stayed (two families, each with a five year old)- and we were very comfortable. The space is beautifully decorated and very clean. We especially enjoyed the upstairs suite- cool layout and lots of good natural light. When we arrived we had been camping for 4 days, and there was enough hot water for six people in a row to get much-needed showers. This place has a washer and dryer, a dishwasher, lots of decks and porches for stargazing...plus a very walkable neighborhood- we saw elk on the road. As far as the area, we visited and enjoyed: the brewery in Cloudcroft, plenty of hikes and views, and even went into Alamogordo and took the kids to the Space Museum. You won't regret booking this great house.

This place is perfect. Online description is spot on. The cleanliness is perfect. Plenty of bedding. Kitchen is fully stocked with anything you need to cook a great meal. No crazy expectations for checking out. The home is decorated nicely. If you are putting together a trip you will not be let down by staying here.

Adorable, Spotless, Comfortable. What a Great Cabin. We have been visiting Cloudcroft several times a year for the last 25 years and stayed at many cabins. Never have we stayed at one that was this clean. The furniture and bed were very comfy. The kitchen had everything you need and more. The bathroom had amazing towels! The decks were so nice and enjoyable. Since there were only 2 of us, we did not use the upstair's bedroom and bath, but it was very pretty. I emailed the owners several times and received responses very quickly, even when he was out of the country. That was very much appreciated. We had a family emergency and the owners were wonderful in assisting us with our needs. Thank you! I could go on and on about this rental but I think you get the point. It is Great. This is the place to spend your stay in Cloudcroft!

This property appears to have been beautifully renovated inside and out. Three comfortable decks add to the overall living space and provide great opportunities to relax in this forest setting. The spacious kitchen, which is equipped better than my own, has a nice island that doubles as another eating area. The bedrooms and living areas are furnished and decorated with a designer’s touch. All the rooms have multiple windows flooding the areas with natural light. Set amid aspens this home is only a few minute drive into Cloudcroft where there are a good variety of stores , restaurants and bakeries. Many trails are nearby and local wildlife, such as elk, are easily viewed from the decks. Overall a most enjoyable and relaxing stay!

This is such a beautiful home! This is sure to be a top rental in Cloudcroft! We’ve stayed at many VRBO homes all over the country and this was definitely one of our favorites! There were so many thoughtful amenities that made our stay enjoyable - roomy bathroom, TVs in the bedrooms, accessible plugs beside the beds for recharging phones, ample storage for unpacking, very comfortable beds, a beautiful & nicely equipped kitchen, accessible fans (ceiling fans!) just to name a few. The home was spotless - one of the cleanest we’ve stayed in! The owners have created such a wonderful vacation home! We hope we are able to stay at Shortstack many times in the future!
