Nice place to be. Wonderful view, nice garden, best way starting the day with an excellent breakfast. Near to Santa Teresa stairs.

Perfect Place. Santa Theresa is beautiful. Barbara gave me a lot of information. The breakfast was great. A great place to stay in Rio. Thank you!

Beautiful shared space, with a garden & great view. So long as you don't mind walking up the famous steps, a good location. Staff (Barbara) were exceptionally friendly & helpful.
We got the cheapest room double room. It was a little dark and musty. We saw the nicer room with a view, we'd pay extra for that next time.

A perfect place to stay and get to know the city. I came during carnaval, such a busy time, and Barbara the host (and also the rest of the staff) were amazing and had plenty of patience to explain evertyhing and help out with whatever i needed, tickets, info, everything.. She also invited us to awesom Blocos parties and generally atmosphere was amazing.
Also perfect breakfast:)
The only thing to take into consideration is location can be a bit uncomfortable if you want to walk in and out in late hours by yourself (i took some ubers instead of walking when it was late)

The staff were very, very helpful. The breakfast is great. The view is nice, with a really relaxed atmosphere. Great place.
If you are down in town and are waking back, it can be quite sore getting up the hill/steps. Not really any supermarkets close by.

Barbara is fantastic, the place is clean and calm, you can rest after the chaotic city discovery. the breakfast is lovely, staff is great, really amazing place
at least one place with air con would be great

Staff: Barbara and all the staff were incredible, helpful, quick to resolve any problem.
View: Great view of Rio's town
Location: Close to the center
Cleanness: Great
Breakfast: Good
Location: The only way to go to the accommodation is with Uber, taxi (or moto taxi) or by walking.
IMPORTANT: You have to know that Uber frequently cancel when they see the location (it's quite steep to drive to the accommodation) and they usually don't have good tires. Eventually, you will have one that drives you...
During the night: with Uber, btw 2-5am, you can easily wait 20-40 minutes to have one that accept to climb you up there. If it's raining, good luck. One night, my friend had to wait 1h30 to get one (but I admit it was exceptionally long).

We liked the view from our room (notice though, that it depends on which room you get), the location is good, 15 min walking from the metro, 7 min from bus stations, 15 walking from nearby supermarkets, 2 min. From the selaron stairs. The atmosphere of the place is very nice and cozy, the staff is very helpful and kind. The breakfast is pretty nice although it doesn't suit vegans.
It's really hot in Rio ( we were in January, it was 30-35 degrees with lots of humidity), there are fans in the room but it's not enough, they have to put air-conditioning.
There were some ants on the wall and the kitchen is not equipped enough with cookware (if you want to prepare a big meal). It's enough though for making some simple meals like an omelette for example.

Breakfast was very lovely with a great view. Place is nice, quiet, big kitchen, staff is super friendly and giving good tips for the surrounding area. They were very flexibel, could check in early and check out late without problems. My stay was great!

Great place to stay in Rio!
Super warm and welcoming hosts, feels like staying at friends house, rather than in ho(s)tel.
Beautiful terrace to sit in the evening with a view of Lapa Arches
Nice breakfast and well facilitated kitchen area to prepare your meal.
Close to all the touristic points.
Super comfy beds and calm area.
Area around sometimes might unsafe as technically it's already Santa Teresa, but I had no problems walking back even in the late afternoon (8-9pm). To catch Uber, you can also walk down the stairs and call it from there, in case they don't want to go up.

Lovely garden, great breakfast and great staff. The room and the shower were very comfy. Barbara is an amazing host. You can rely on her suggestions about the restaurants, bars, etc. The location is great if you're planning to spend the night in Lapa. Make sure you take a taxi or Uber to return back after midnight.

After traveling all over the world, this accommodation is one of the best I have ever stayed at. The staff are so personable and it really felt like a cozy place overlooking the city.

The rooftop garden and the view on Rio are the attractions of this guesthouse. The room is simple and clean and the WiFi is good. We were surprised it was quiet at night in this part of the city, so we slept very well. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they prepare a good breakfast for you.
The neighborhood is not very good as people are sleeping on the street, garbage is everywhere etc. But the locals are friendly and won’t disturb or approach you. But it’s just good to know in advance.

Ok, so the first thing to begin with is the attention given by Barbara, simply outstanding!! Few times I have felt so much comfortable at a hotel as in Casa da Gente. Always clean, a succulent and delicious included breakfast and comfy beds. Barbara is amazing, she will give you tips, info, recommendations and will go beyond to help you if you need anything. I can only recommend this place to everyone who visits Rio, trust me, youll love it!!! Thank you, Barbara :)

Upon booking Casa da Gente, I didn't realize it was so close to the famous ''Escadaria Selarón'' steps, but the steps were literally a 1 minute walk away from the hostel. To go and explore the city, you'd have to walk down the stairs everytime, with loads of tourists taking photos there. Casa da Gente having these steps in their backyard would make you feel like a local.
The view from the rooftop terrace of the hostel overlooking the city was amazing, The rooftop terrace itself was gorgeous. Plants everywhere. The hostel felt very homely and everybody I met there was very friendly. Breakfast was great, lots of juices and fresh fruit. I just booked a stay for 2 nights but regretted I didn't stay longer.
Bárbara was very friendly. She gave me a book guide of Rio upon arrival and showed me there was free filtered water in the fridge if I needed any. Upon checkout she was very helpful, as I needed to look out for my luggage until I could check into another sight-seeing hostel a bit further down the road (Pousada Favelinha). Whenever I visit Rio again, I will definitely be staying in Casa da Gente again! Thank you Bárbara!

Barbara was incredibly friendly and provided us with useful tips and advice on local activities we would otherwise have missed. The view from the property is outstanding and it's exceptional value for money. I couldn't recommend it any greater!
The building is a bit old but it's all part of the charm of the place staying in Santa Teresa :-)

Excellent location, the house is close to public transport and also a nice walking distance to some tourist attractions like Lapa and Parque das Ruínas. The place is super nice and cozy with a great view of Downtown Rio, breakfast is simple but complete with bread, cheese, bit of cake, a small selection of sweet spreads like jam and dulce de leche, fruit salad, yogurt and granola, your choice of hot drink and occasionally some scrambled eggs. Staff is very nice and friendly, always up for giving some local tips and advice
The shower in the bathroom closest to our room was leaking a bit, but that was quickly solved by the caretaker
