Location:
This beautiful home is located a short drive from a vibrant tourist town, popular thanks to its picturesque coastline backed by shops and cafés. Choose from bright white sand or pebbled beaches, with crystal clear water that’s great for snorkelling. For a taste of local cuisine, the nearest restaurant is around 1km away and there are lots of different eateries along the coast. Other activities nearby are tennis (2km) and horse riding (11km) which are ideal for active groups.
If you are a fan of history, you will love the ancient town of Tindari (35km). Famous for its archaeological site, visitors climb the hilltop to discover the monumental ruins which have stone archways still intact. You’ll even find a fascinating Greek theatre, a mosaic pavement and some Roman tombs. The site is open to the public to freely explore and offers amazing views of the mountains. The town is also home to a protected nature reserve with an unspoilt beach, where several different plants and animals reside.
Active groups should head to Nebrodi Park (61km), Sicily’s largest national park. The spectacular landscape is full of mountains, the highest being over 1800m, with an awesome backdrop of Mount Etna. Explore the historical towns dotted around, including San Fratello, Floresta and Convento di San Francesco which is home to an 11th-century Norman church. With blue lakes, alluring villages and panoramic sites, this park has so much to offer.
With a mountainous landscape and extensive coastline, no two days in Sicily need be the same. One day you could be climbing Mount Etna’s summit, the next discovering the historical town or Cefalù and visiting Tindari’s archaeological site. For something a bit different, head to the vibrant city of Milazzo, which is full of restaurants, shops and bars, then catch a ferry to the Aeolian islands.
