The owner was very good at communicating the instructions to me. He informed me that the property will be hard to find initially in the dark. I made sure to arrive to the property before dark. I inquired about a washer and dryer at this property. Derrick said there is a washer/dryer outside near the carport. Our travel party consisted of 4 adults and two children, under 10 yrs old. The place was good for us. We were ending our vacation with 3 nights in Hilo, after being in Kona.
Upon arriving, one person had to open the chain-link gate to so the car can get in. The property (yards) is spacious with plants. You can hear the tiny frogs at night, they sound like birds. The check-in was easy with the key pad.
The house was stuffy initially. We had to open the windows and turn on the fan. There is no air conditioner in the house. The bedrooms were nicely decorated. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom did not have shampoo, conditioner, and body soap. The house did have hand soap. The hallway bathroom always felt stuffy to me.
We didn't really get to cook since we only had 3 nights and our schedule was tight with sightseeing (water falls, ziplining, and Volcanoes National Park). We did heat up our leftovers and made coffee that the owner provided. The microwave was cool because it had a rack in there. The television has movies, but we didn't really have time to watch too much tv at night.

The property is as described. It’s clean and fonctionnal. The beds and linens are brand new and comfortable. The absence of air conditionning was however an issue for us. It does become cool at night with the windows opened and the fans in fonction, but it was very hot during the day when we came back at the end of the afternoon to get ready for dinner. Also, take note that the washer and dryer are in perfect condition, but they are situed outside in the carpot which is less practical. Nice stay overall.

Beautiful home. Newer appliances and furnishings. Accommodated our rather large ohana of 8. A lot of nice touches and pretty much everything needed for an extended stay. Highly recommend.

In a few words….our stay was not long enough. Great, clean, well equipped, quiet, comfortable home.

I just want to say thank you for the three days. If I had seen the listing I would’ve booked it for the two in a half weeks we were staying. This is a great place to stay with your family they provided everything which was great. The beds were comfy, the house is clean and great. Location was easy to find but we are from Hawaii so that could be why it was easy. 10/10 recommend.

We stayed for 4 nights on this side of the island to go to the national park and explore around Hilo. This house is very clean and in a nice quiet neighborhood. The fans cool it off in the night fairly quickly, but it can get pretty hot in the day without an AC. Great communication from the owner leading up to the trip.

We chose this property due to it's proximity to Volcanos NP. It was also a great "jumping off" point for lots of places on the island. Close to Hilo for restaurants and groceries. The property itself wad exactly as described. I was concerned that there would be no AC, but there are ceiling fans in every room and with the windows open, it was the perfect temp. Would definitely recommend.

Keaau is south of Hilo and very convenient to Volcano National Park. Home has lots of amenities to provide a comfortable stay. There is a large TV but operating instructions were very complex and we did not attempt to view. Overall I would recommend this rental.

Inside was very clean. Kitchen was very modern. Outdoors the yard was unkempt and had tall weeds, surrounded by unmaintained bushes and trees. It was not a pleasing outdoor environment. Indoors was good and worth the price we paid. We would not sit outdoors given the condition of the yard.

Nice clean updated home near Keaau (Hawaiian Paradise Park). Quiet neighborhood.
Centrally located between Hilo and Volcano National Park made for a great place to explore the east side of the island. Hilo Farmers Market was worth checking out. Rainbow Falls was nearby as well.
Volcano National Park was an awesome experience.
Shopped at local grocery store and cooked on the grill on the back porch.
If you're planning a trip to this part of the Big Island, I can recommend this property.
Check out Wailuku Brew Works in Keaau for some excellent offerings.

Derek was a great host with great communication and a wonderful place to call “home” while visiting the big island. Everything was updated, clean and functional. We even enjoyed the supplied outdoor gas grill :) Great location to get to Hilo.

We absolutely loved our stay at Paradise. The house was very clean and very comfortable. The host had excellent communication and was helpful in locating the property and anything we needed to know about the house. We couldn’t recommend it more. It was the perfect spot for our family to enjoy and explore the tranquil side of the big island. We hope to come back again someday!

Great location! We used the house as home base to get out and see the island. We were back at the house in the evenings. The rooms were very comfortable. As with most places in HPP, there is no AC. The overhead fans in each room kept it very comfortable while sleeping. Communication was awesome!

This VRBO home has everything you need to stay in comfort. Kitchen cooking is complete and the beds are amazing comfortable. Owner Derrick has great communication and instructions for everything we needed to know.

Paradise Captured couldn't have a better name!! The house, location, and amenities were perfect!! This was my husband's first time to Hilo (Hawaii as well) and it was everything he wanted (relaxing, peaceful, and tranquil)!! We'd definitely stay here again and highly encourage others to stay here as well!!

Great property, Derrick answered all our questions quickly. Would have liked to have an ice maker in the refrigerator, maybe add that detail to the property listing so guests can plan accordingly.

Great location to allow us to get to Hilo or the volcano national park. Our family of five adults found everything to our liking and were sad to leave. One unexpected surprise; the people in the neighborhood were super friendly. You could feel the aloha spirit whether you were driving or walking.

Everything was good. Need 1 more dish towel for drying dishes

This is the first place I have ever been and felt like I was home. I just loved that house..everything was clean, nice, stocked with everything you need. Love the fridge and going to buy me one like it. Bathrooms was just fabulous. I woke up and stepped outside to a very peaceful and beautiful surroundings. I really wanted to not leave, because I was so comfortable. Thanks a lot Mr. Jones for just loving commendations and I will be back. Anyone and everyone I know coming that way will know where to stay…the most comfortable beds and loved the laundry area too. Fresh fruit on the property and beautiful geckos.

We had a great stay here and Derrick was super responsive to any questions we had.

Property was ideally situated for us: between Hilo and Pahoa, with easy access to Volcanoes NP. We loved hearing the birds each morning, the coqui at night, seeing beautiful vegetation all around the yard.
Derrick was a great communicator who accommodated our needs and requests quickly and thoroughly.
We had everything we needed for our stay; really appreciated the washer and dryer.
We thoroughly enjoyed this "home away from home" on the Big Island.

Great experience. Impeccably clean. Would highly recommend both this location as well as the host, Derrick Jones. He did an amazing job with communication and making sure all of our needs were met.

We ended up at this home after our first rental fell through because it had been damaged by previous guests. We were grateful that Derrick was so quick to respond when we contacted him late the night before to ask if the home could be ready for us the next day. His responsiveness and concern for the quality of our experience showed in his communications with us throughout our stay.
The 3-bedroom home was clean, modern and spacious enough for our family of four. We really appreciated the new kitchen appliances and outdoor grill; we were able to cook most of our meals at home because the kitchen was well-stocked with pots, pans, knives and other utensils. There is not a dishwasher, but we didn't mind hand washing our dishes. We would have liked to eat outside on the back patio, so adding a table and more comfortable seating there would be nice.
We also appreciated being able to do laundry at the house. The home is well-maintained and seems to have been fully remodeled in recent years, with nice tile and vanities in the bathrooms, and stainless steel appliances and solid surface countertops in the kitchen. My family appreciated the quiet neighborhood and quick access to Hilo and nearby state parks, etc.
Overall, a great home base for our stay on the east side of the Big Island — and such a welcome relief after our first night in less-than-ideal accommodations.

My sisters and I had a great stay at Paradise Captured. The kitchen was well appointed, as were the three bedrooms. Wifi was great - even when all three of us were using it. The check-in would have been smoother if I actually had a cell phone that received text and e-mails so a phone number for direct communication could have helped that. Once we gained access - we had a very pleasant stay and it was central to all of the activities we had planned. Reasonable rates and everything we needed.

Property was perfect, had everything we needed plus more. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends

If you want to experience real Hawaii but still be close enough to some tourist eats, etc this is a great location. Close to Hilo and Pahoa but you’re definitely snuck away in a true residential space. Would book again!

Derrick is a great host. Communicates quickly and effectively. Flawless checkin process. The place is perfect to relax in after a long day at the beach. all the amenities you need. We especially liked the water pressure!!! Although close to cities (and nature and beaches and volcanoes) you feel like your on a relaxed vacation in the country. Already recommending it to friends.

Our time spent here was very memorable and we totally enjoyed our stay. The house was big enough for my ohana and visitors that stopped by to say hi. The only downfall was that the heat during the day. Friday was really hot so we took a drive down to Hilo town which was not too far and came back in the evening the house was cool. I would recommend this house to my ohana and friends. We plan to stay here again if it should be available the next time we visit Hilo.

We had a wonderful week with our dog and family in this home. It was a great location and very dog friendly. The owner was easy to communicate with and made sure we were comfortable. Highly recommend staying here, I know we will be back!

An Epic stay at Derricks Hawaiian paradise!
He was extremely helpful and on top of any questions we had.
Property is newly renovated with all the comforts of home. Everything is above and beyond in presentation and our expectations. A perfect 10 days for us here close to Hilo and Pahoa. We can’t wait to return !
Mahalo Derrick

We booked this stay to visit friends that live a few blocks away. This house was spotless and very nice. Everything was new including the furniture and beds. Being in the tropics, there weren't any bugs or dampness or anything like that and had ceiling fans in every room that we had on moat of the time. We had plenty of room for our 4 kids and could have had room for more! It has recently been remodeled from top to bottom. We didn't spend much time at the property because we were busy with friends, but it is in a safe, quiet, nice area of Hawaiian Paradise Park and easy to get to Hilo or anywhere on the East side.
