From the onset, our host was incredibly hospitable, showed us around and ensured that we had everything we needed. Will surely return whenever we are visiting Malindi.
Everything was superfluous.

The breakfast was simple but nice, We had eggs and mahamri with tea. Considered the room was very cheap I never realised the breakfast was included, so it was a ncie way to wake up.
I cant think of anything

Good value, spacious room, albeit not recently renovated. Friendly owner. Attached restaurant serves tasty filling meals. Booked for friend who was the guest providing the review.

Felt like home from the second I met the owner. Such a welcoming and loving person. The room was big, nice huge bed with a balcony. Try the great Yemenite food at the restaurant. Highly recommended!
Nothing.

Asante sana!

I loved the host's hospitality and the food from the restaurant downstairs: Great Chicken Biryani! Baba Lao is an outlier for all accommodations within the area. The breakfast is good (Swahili Mahamri, Chai, and Fried Eggs) Great central location offers easy access to most amenities you'd like for a coastal getaway.
Most items in some rooms need servicing, though; the bathroom doors and bedside tables. Lastly, the WiFi is not the most reliable and has limited room coverage. It only works best in Room 5 (VIP Suite)!

The host was friendly and warm.

The hotel is a construction site. There is no calmless in it. The ceiling of the room was leaking. The bed almost fell apart. Absolutely not recommend.

Proximity to the beach and to the town.
Amazing swahili food at the downstairs hotel

The owner has very nice hospitality and he is so friendly. He advised me on places to visit. The food was not only affordable but yummy . In short , babalao is my other home anytime am in malindi.
They should open more branches not only in malindi but the entire kenya.

Room ventilation. Fan wasn't very effective.

The owner is incredible. Helped so much with ideas. The food in the restaurant is good and fair prices. Took us to his barber, nice and cheap.
It could be renovated a bit, but for this money, it was great!

Hotel management was helpful in every way. The staffs were extremely courteous and provided their service properly. The hotel is in one of the most decent areas of the city and offers very easy access to many points. The comfort and size of the room together with the delicious breakfast was way above my expectations.

We booked for two, still had to pay extra for the second one and they were not willing to try to understand what booking for two including breakfast means.
They not only charged extra for the 2nd person's breakfast, but also charged for us being two, although we booked for two. Very unfriendly manager (Omar).
Broken windows, ruined furniture, wifi not working means tv didn't work as it should.

We stayed at Baba Lao's hotel for one night because of a very short stop in Malindi. Baba Lao and his family were super friendly and very helpful. The room had a big new bed, a smart TV and a bathroom with everything you need. The room was also really clean. Moreover, the room was very cheap with a good location. The stay was really uncomplicated and every wish was fulfilled. The breakfast was delicious and we had nice conversations with Baba Lao. I can only recommend it to anyone who wants to travel on a low budget. Thank you very much for the great stay!

The food especially Biriani was really nice and the cost is very affordable for that amount.

The room was okey, cleaner than the rest of the place. It has a TV screen with working Netflix app. Good internet.
The place is completely untidy and dirty. It looks like some parts of the place are unfinished. On the hallway there was a dead rat (showed in the pictures) that by it appearance, died at least a few days before we arrived. When we told them that there was a dead animal on the hallway they seemed to know what we were talking about and then replied “aaaah that rat !? “, like it was completely normal and not insanitary at all. At the end they did end up removing it though. The rooms are similar to the pictures they posted. The bathroom is really small and the shower is orientated in a way that the water flows down the wall, making it difficult to shower. Also there was a used soap bar on the bathroom floor when we arrived. Some parts of the sealing are covered with some cloth, trying to hide big holes on it.
They also tried to overcharge us on the restaurant without telling us before hand. Don’t trust the menu prices and doble check with the owner.

The food was great and the staff were very friendly and always ready to assist.

Large room, clean bed and good mosquito net.
The manager said my room was booked and blamed me for not calling ahead. He overcharged me for the room, then refused to return the money and claimed I should pay more as he gave me a better room.
Hotel is supposed to be new but looks very run down. Whole sections are collapsing. My door locked into a frame that was rotting away, so there was no security at all- you could literally just push the door through the frame.
