About this villa rental
The old school house is nestled in the centre of the beautiful village of Vorno, with views to the south towards the mountains and Lucca to the north. Vorno is superbly located with Pisa International airport approximately 35 minutes away. Lucca is approximately 12 minutes by car, Florence about 1 hour and the coast is 35 minutes. There is plentiful parking for up to 8 cars.
Our beautiful villa can be rented to sleep 12 people, with 6 ensuite bedrooms. The west wing has a very large open plan reception room with a traditional Tuscan kitchen at one end. The kitchen is extremely well equipped with Villeroy Boch tableware for your use. There is also a downstairs washroom and utility room. The east wing has a separate sitting room and separate kitchen. The villa is interconnected at ground floor level. There are two staircases, one in each wing. Each bedroom has a double bed with provision for two separate single beds in our Volterra and Chianti bedrooms. The sanitary ware within each bathroom is Villeroy Boch. The Sleepeezee mattresses are wool and cashmere for warmth in the winter and for cooling in the summer. We use premium Egyptian cotton percale sheets for your comfort. All bedrooms have air-conditioning and mosquito nets at the windows.
The villa is full of beautiful paintings and has an excellent library of both classical and contemporary texts and good collection of local guidebooks and art books for your interest. We are a family friendly place. There are two travel cots available, a stairgate, car seat and children's toys for inside and outside play. We have recently purchased an upright piano which is tuned annually and provide music for your enjoyment.
Outside, the south facing garden gives you plenty of space where you can lounge, play, dine and swim. The outside terrace has dinning for put to 12 people and there is a barbecue for your use. There are loungers and chairs by the pool, where you can chill down and relax. The child friendly, salt-water pool (11m x 5m), can be heated upon requested. There are integrated steps into the pool in the north corner and an integrated bench where you can sit under the mulberry trees, that provide a natural shade. We have a table tennis table, yoga mats and outside boules for your enjoyment. We also have an organic vegetable garden for you to use during your stay with us. On the corner of the garden, by the road, is a pump where you can get fresh spring water to drink. We also have the same water running through our taps.
The village has a wonderful family restaurant which you can walk to within minutes. They serve traditional Tuscan food and have a beautiful garden in which to dine. You can also take away pizzas for your convenience. There is a splendid, award winning, organic restaurant which you can walk to along the riverside. The views from the terrace to the mountains are magnificent. They produce their own award-winning wines, olive oil and vegetables. There is also a theatre and art gallery within the same ownership, where there are exhibitions and a variety of activities during the season. You can drive to another excellent traditional family run Tuscan restaurant in the next village. Indeed, there are plentiful places to eat extremely well. The local supermarket, patisserie, pharmacy and other shops are in the next village. There is an excellent butcher about 10 minutes’ drive away.
Airport transits can be arranged through Roman, our house manager, who also runs a local taxi company. He is also a tour guide if you would like to arrange, for example, a wine tasting at a Tuscan Vineyard during your stay. We can also arrange for a local chef to prepare food for you, for special meals or cooking schools upon request. The area is renowned for excellent off-road biking and for trekking. Walk east out of the village to the observatory where you will find wonderful views across the valley toward Lucca and see the old aqueduct that was used to deliver water to Lucca.
We really want you to relax and enjoy your time with us and endeavour to provide the best service we possibly can. Our motto: 'Dolce Vita!'

The photos do not really do Casa Joanna justice. We were 8 comprising 3 generations, Mum and Dad (Granny and Grumpy) 3 kids (in 20s and 30s), 2 sons in law and a nearly 3 granddaughter. I think it is fair to say we all made maximum use of this gorgeous property. Not sure how we are going to survive with just one kitchen when we get home, and of course no swimming pool or an endless supply of the most gorgeous tomatoes, courgettes, peppers and herbs from the allotment. Just stunning. We all agreed that of all of the properties we’ve stayed in over the last 25 years, this was by far the winner so far. Great location, super attentive Roman and Michaela managing the property with Sarah answering all pre holiday questions. We are all in agreement that we will be back again at some stage. We loved it. From David, Donna and all the family x

We loved this very spacious very comfortable beautiful villa. It’s even better than the photos.
Plenty of outside space for parking and games. The pool was close to the villa and the kids had freedom to use it morning noon and night!
We hadn’t realised how close it was to a beach
, Lucca and Pisa so we had a few trips there. It was a very special holiday.

An incredible stay at Casa Joanna. What a beautiful place in the heart of Tuscany. Only 15 mins from Lucca, 7 from the nearest supermarket. The villa was well equipped for everything you’d need during your stay. The grounds, pool and patio area were a tranquil escape. Couldn’t have hoped for a better holiday with our friends, it felt like a home with real character rather than your standard accommodation. Would love to come back one day…

This is a great place to stay to get away from it all. Beautiful house and pool and plenty of room for our multi generational party of 8 including two guests under the age of 3. Roman was always available with any questions and we had chef Valentino come in one night and cook dinner for us which was amazing. Lucca is about a 12 minute drive away. If possible, don’t rent a large car as the roads in Vorno are tiny!

The villa was fantastic - so comfortable and well-equipped. The pool was great especially as the weather was very hot . There were lots of different areas for eating and relaxing both indoors and outdoors. The villa manager , Roman, was very helpful and quickly found and booked a restaurant in Lucca for us when we arrived at the restaurant we had booked only to find it was shut due to Covid. He provided a great taxi service when we needed it. We were a group of 11 consisting of a mix of ages, including a five and seven year old. The children agreed it was their best holiday ever. We would all definitely stay here again. Thank you Sarah and Roman for your brilliant hospitality .

This villa is so beautiful, both the interior and exterior, the photos do not do it justice!! The communication with the hosts was great, the villa has everything you need and is in the most picturesque setting. It is a bit hard for drivers to find so we would ask them to come to the pizza restaurant nearby (which is also a great restaurant), but there's not always phone reception everywhere in the area so be wary of that when telling drivers/taxis where to meet. Otherwise, everything was so incredible, we loved every moment and can't wait to organize another trip back.

We enjoyed our family vacation at this beautiful Tuscan villa in the village of Vorno. The manager Roman, went out of his way to make sure our needs were met. No detail was too small. There is 1 ristorante within walking distance named A. Bimbotto that we highly recommend. Unfortunately the other shops and services have recently closed so transportation is essential. Everything else is as advertised and we would definitely recommend staying at this beautiful villa in the Tuscan hillside.

We had a lovely stay at the villa, Roman and Sarah couldn’t have been more helpful. They went out of their way to make our stay a smooth one. The house is lovely, bathrooms and kitchen areas are done beautifully and well kept. The garden and pool areas are spectacular and were a total hit with the kids and we weren’t even there mid summer. House was warm for Easter break (something I was worried about) and the location is excellent. Close to Pisa, Lucca and the beach and the little village had a couple of restaurants. We got a private chef a couple of evenings as we have little ones and that worked super well too. All in all it was an excellent holiday even with 3 families living together and 5 small children running around.

Our time spent at Casa Joanna was the perfect antidote to busy city life. The house is filled with personal touches that make it feel more like a home than just a villa rental. We spent a lot of our time in the villa cooking in the kitchen and hanging out by the pool. The historic town of Lucca is very close by with lovely restaurants and beautiful churches. We also ventured out to beautiful Florence- only an hour door to door by car. We also made an excursion to the beach- half an hour by car. There are fantastic restaurants in the local area and lovely morning walks to be made into the hills just behind the village where the house is situated. We can't wait to return again!

We had a brilliant week's holiday with a group of friends at Villa Joanna this August – we loved it, and would highly recommend it to others! And being only 10 minutes drive from Lucca, and a 30 minute drive to Pisa airport - but set in a quiet Tuscan village, you couldn't really ask for the villa to be better located.
The house itself is beautiful and a great size (and perfectly clean), with lots of space for cooking and relaxing downstairs, and upstairs the bedrooms are all lovely and nicely decorated – our bed was huge and v. comfortable and our bathroom even had a gorgeous roll-top bath. The grounds of the house are equally lovely with lots of space around the pool for sunbathing on the loungers, or eating lunch on the terrace area. And when we didn't feel like cooking, we discovered two delicious restaurants within walking distance – A Bimbotto in the village itself, and Scompiglio on the outskirts of the village... we took a slightly countryside walking route to get to it, which was a lovely way to enjoy the Tuscan views at sunset! We'd also recommend La Cecca as another great local restaurant we came across, and about a 5 minute drive from the villa.
Trips into Lucca were really fun, especially renting bikes and cycling around the tops of the ancient walls that surround the city, and treating ourselves to some gelato afterwards! And we also enjoyed a day at the beach - which was an easy 30 min drive to get to and very nice, especially if you pay to rent some loungers for the day from the local beach restaurant.

Our third trip to Casa Joanna, which is simply a stunning property that is very well maintained and cared for and offers a luxurious, spacious, and ‘warm’ environment to relax for the whole family. Every one loved the pool, the beautiful art and homely touches that make this home feel like your very own Tuscan retreat. Correspondence ahead of our stay was, as ever, timely and helpful. Contacted during our stay was courteous and helpful, and we can only say THANK YOU SARAH & ROMAN for your service and care.
The local restaurants are fabulous, the local people are friendly and caring, and the local countryside (which I spent time exploring on an mountain bike, and my wife ran trails in the hills) is simply breath-taking. Cannot recommend this place enough!
Until next year!

Casa Joanna is set in the Tuscan Hills with a beautiful view of the mountains. This being our first time to Tuscany, the property was exactly what we imagined it would look like....complete with beautiful gardens, cypress trees, fresh herbs, bay leaf hedges and so much more,
The villa was perfect.....very spacious yet inviting and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need to make your stay wonderful (including dishwasher, gas stove, washer, fully equipped kitchen, plush towels, etc). We found the kitchen to be a wonderful place to cook, eat, enjoy wine and hang out. We had a cooking class in the villa with Chef Valentino and it was an incredible experience. We loved cooking together and then eating out on the terrace.
The bedrooms are all ensuite and a good size. The beds were very comfortable.
The property is ideally located to do day trips throughout all of Tuscany. We used a tour company called "Cruises on the Road in Tuscany" and they were amazing to work with. We visited Florence, Pisa, Lucca, Siena and Cinque Terre
And then to make a perfect situation even better, we met Roman, the property manager. When we arrived, Roman was there to meet us with Prosecco and a welcome basket of Tuscan goodies. From there, it only got better! He made sure that every part of our trip was perfect and he treated us like family. Roman was a big part of why this trip was so amazing!!
Casa Joanna exceeded our expectations. We stayed at the villa for five nights and we absolutely fell in love with the people and the place. We definitely will go back one day!
