About this house rental
Opened July 19, 2018! Hawks Cottage was built in 1924 and is centrally located just a few blocks (a short walk) from historic downtown "Mayberry", The Andy Griffith Museum and Wally's Service Station! Relax and enjoy fireflies and warm evenings around the Firepit while roasting "Smores" in the Huge backyard! Let the feel of an old southern home in a friendly town bring you back to the good 'ol days. (Rental includes the entire Upstairs area. This will also include access to the back yard fire pit and outdoor area once complete)

We stayed one night on our way to Myrtle Beach. The upstairs was immaculate and very roomy. We had 4 adults and 2 young children. Would stay there again, no problem.

This house was definitely beautiful and has been renovated nicely. My family enjoyed our stay in the upstairs of this house. The beds were comfortable and we loved the extra locks on the doors to help direct our children. The kitchen had all we needed and we were a close walk to town to come and go as needed. My only complaint would be the living room furniture, we found that very cute, but uncomfortable. Fieldyn was great to communicate with.

This was a nice spot, easy walk up to main street. It's an old house but made decent for rental. Had everything we needed. It was like the owners took the time to live there and put hooks in the bathroom and things to cook with and the appliances are all new. the Fridge big. Had trash bags, cleaning stuff, washer, dryer are newer. TV was great, puts you into guest mode where you can login to Roku and your Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc and it locks it out after your stay. Couch bed actually had everything you needed in it to make a proper bed. Beds are firm memory foam. Worked out good for us.

A group of friends met up in Mt Airy to celebrate all of us turning 40 this year. The location of the house was perfect and quiet. We attended a concert at the amphitheater that was within walking distance, was able to walk to Wally's to ride in the Andy Griffith patrol car, enjoyed walking and shopping downtown, and went to a winery for a wine tasting and lunch. The house was clean, beds were comfortable, and it was beautifully decorated. Check in and out was a breeze and we all are looking forward to coming back again. Thank you so much!

Rented entire house with some friends. Just a great place. Upstairs a bit nicer than down. But downstairs offers beat access to wrap around porch. Will return here. If you’re going to visit this is a great option that I would not pass up.

We loved the vibe of an old house design. Easy access on the front porch to climb the inside stairs. Nice wood floors and layout. Such a charming place and is a few minutes walk to downtown shops and restaurants.

Upper Unit in the house was perfect. Walk to downtown only took 6-8 minutes. The house was very clean & we loved the older light switches & outlet in the bedroom. TV’s in the bedrooms would be nice but “back in the day” if you had a TV it was in the family room. Adding a “vintage” fan in the bedrooms would also be a plus. I still loved the unit. Kinda weird that the kitchen had 2 seperate sinks, I’m guessing one was repurposed. Also would have liked to have used the fireplace since it listed that it had one but before using I asked & was advised not to, which was ok, I loved the separation of rooms. Also a little odd that people park any direction along the street., I highly recommend & would stay again. Also recommend the pub with Goat in the name & catch a movie at the Earle Theatre. Oh and breakfast at snappy’s.

The location was great. One addition is needed to have a good bathtub mat and towel mat outside of the tub. One of us nearly slipped inside the tub. Also, clean the grimes around the light switches and doors.

We rented both units for four couples and it was the perfect choice. The owners were kind enough to unlock the door connecting the units so it was like we were all staying in the same rental. The house is so charming and well appointed. Everything you need and more was included, and not just starter supplies! It is in a great location to do sight seeing. Highly recommend!

The house was very clean and decorated so cute. The host was very responsive and so easy to work with. It was walking distance to the things we wanted to visit. I would highly recommend this place if you are visiting Mt. Airy.

The area was great and we were close to everything in town.
The property has potential but it needs lots of repairs and paint. The kitchen area and living room were extremely nice and decorated well.
We had understood that we were to be in the bottom half of the house but was put upstairs. There was four people in our group and the youngest was 65 and the oldest will be 78 in a few weeks. She fell on the last stair and landed on her knees on the landing. Basically because there was no light working in the stairwell. No working lights on the porch either. Actually there was no bulbs in the light fixtures on the porch or in one of the fixtures in the queen bedroom. The porch also has a hole in the flooring as you come onto the porch from the street.
We called and reported the issues and the person said he would try to check around and see if something was available. However the bottom of the house remained empty for the entire weekend.
This is not our first VRBO experience but it has been the most disappointing.

Being a Baptist Pastor, I believe honesty is the best policy. I grew up in this neighborhod so I know it extremely well. I've stayed in this dwelling twice before. If it was me, I would paint the whole inside of the residence. The bedrooms have 1 bed each and small night stands. That is all of the furnishings in the bedrooms. Most people are use to having a dresser and a chest of drawers to store their clothes. You can buy used furniture for little to nothing. Had to drag kitchen chairs into bedroom to have some place to put your suitcase to work out of. The shower control handle was stripped and would not adjust the water temp. It was so hot that you could not take a shower. Being the upstairs unit we had a set of steps to go up. The lights in the stairwell were burned out so it made it extremely difficult and dangerous to come in or out at night. On the backside of the banister was a sharp nail or something that your hand would hit everytime you went up the steps. That needs to be eliminated. Went out on the back screened in porch, no furniture out there, not even a couple plastic chairs and the door coming back in was nasty from hand soil. Bad. A little paint would eliminate that or a little comet. The location was super. I knew it was. only about 2 blocks to downtown. So much potential in this place but seems to be a lack of concern from management about keeping it in good shape. Super nice appliances in the kitchen. I would give it a 5 rating. We didn't cook.

This older home is well maintained and very clean. We had the upstairs unit with plenty of room for my group of six. This home is very convenient to everything and with in walking distance to Main Street. We will definitely be staying here again in the future.

Quiet neighborhood, very clean, and comfortable bed. Stayed on the upper floor which was probably the best so there was no one walking around above me.
No microwave, which wasn't a big deal. Just found it unusal.

We loved the location so close to everything and the deep shade in the front yard. Everything was super clean. But we didn't realize that the house was split into two units. We were on the top floor and our "neighbors" were very friendly. No microwave was a disappointment. Get that and we would surely stay here again..

This was everything it says it is and more! We didn’t plan on spending too much time indoors because we had a family reunion. We had lot of things to do and people to see! When we were there, the house was so comfortable with all the feels of a country cottage. Only two small hiccups were no microwave and no staircase light. They weren’t really that big of a deal. Just in the sake of full disclosure. I told her about them and both were noted and going to be installed and/or fixed. It had all new appliances, adorable furniture sjd super cute decor.
We would definitely stay again! It’s super close to downtown which is the hub of the town!

Everything was great. Comfortable, convenient, quiet, simple. All good. We only have one very small nit, which actually didn't affect our stay, but kinda irked a little when we first arrived: unlike the text of the listing which clearly states that you will have the entire house to yourself, there are actually two units in the house. You are staying in the upper unit. Not a big deal (don't let this keep you from staying here,) but why is the host lying about that?

Beautiful home just off the main street. Walking distance to downtown, Andy Griffith museum, and other attractions. We had the upstairs area and had lots of room. Quiet neighborhood and parking was in front of the home. Highly recommend!

We stayed at this beautiful old home last year and loved it and had the opportunity to return this year for a few days. House is located just a block of Main Street and an easy walk to all the shops and/ or the Jail and Wally’s Filling Station. Very peaceful and serene neighborhood. Like going back in time to the sixties. It has a long front porch with seating but my wife and I both missed the now gone two white wooden rocking chairs (and the missing neighborhood cat). Last time we stayed on the first floor. This time around we were put on the second floor. This was more inconvenient for two near seventy year olds having to haul our luggage up a long flight of stairs. The ceiling light on the inside first floor entrance was inoperable so it was dark entering in the evening. Upstairs rooms layout were the same as downstairs with ample room. Fully equipped kitchen ( except no microwave). Bathroom sink stopper was stuck closed but new owner took care of fixing that right away. Only one TV located in the Living Room. No TV in either bedroom ( first floor had them). ROKU service was awful. It kept cutting out and no local channels were available. I would still recommend this place to stay and we’ll be back.

We were not able to make this trip at all due to unfortunate events, but the host of this property was SO accommodating and kind and did not charge us for the additional date we requested - which we requested before the incident occurred. We appreciate that kindness and wanted to make sure our rating reflected that fully. And we hope to visit in the future!

We enjoyed our stay very much. The property was very clean, attractive, and convenient, and we would stay there again. The only hiccup occurred when we arrived and discovered that we only had access to the upstairs (the downstairs was rented to other guests), even though the Vrbo website states, "You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party." Since only my wife and I were staying, it worked out okay, but the description on the website needs to be clarified.
