About this cottage rental
Built around 1910, you'll go back in time when you step foot in this newly restored Dogtrot Cottage. Sitting on top of the hill in Downtown Shirley, this is one of the few dogtrots still standing in Arkansas. It feels just like Grandma's old place! The house was originally designed with open-ended passage that runs through the center of a house, flanked by two enclosed living spaces. The living room has been restored to how it would have looked in the early 1900's. Each room in the house is themed for a different decade. The kitchen was originally in a separate building apart from the house. But when the owners added plumbing around the middle of last century, a bathroom, kitchen, and laundry room were added to the original house. The home sits on 1 acre of land with plenty of room for parking cars, ATVs, boats, etc. You'll get views of the Ozark Mountains from almost every window. Two screened in porches and a large covered front porch makes it ideal for outdoor enjoyment.
The big bedroom has a king bed and couch (w/ TV), the smaller room has two twin beds. We do have a blow up mattress for anyone needing an extra place to sleep.
The house may be old, but modern amenities abound in this unique rental. High speed WiFi, two TV's, fully stocked kitchen supplies, antique tub with shower, dedicated office and brand new HVAC.
Outside, enjoy our quaint courtyard with firepit, covered parking, charcoal grill and yard games including croque, bocci ball, frisbee, cornhole and others.
Enjoy porch sittin' ? Well, we have three porches to choose from! Two are screened in and the front porch is HUGE!
The house is a three minute walk to the antique shops and museum in the Historic Shirley Downtown and a five minute walk to the historic Cottrell-Wilson Hiking Trail. The city park, river access, historic jail and train bridge are all within a ten minute walk.
Kayaking, Fishing, Swimming, Hiking, ATV riding and Golf are all activities within Shirley and Fairfield Bay Area!
Laundry room is on property
Pets are allowed but we charge a $30 pet fee. Please keep pets OFF the furniture. The house is full of antiques, so we allow dogs under 20 lbs.
There are two security cameras on the shed. One faces the carport and the other faces the side yard.

WE HAD A GREAT TIME AND THE HOUSE WAS AMAZING. THE OUTSIDE WASN'T AS NICE BECAUSE OF THE OVERGROWTH BUT THE INSIDE AND THE PORCH WAS AWESOME. WE HAD A WEEKEND OF GOLF, FLEA MARKETS AND A FRIENDS BAND PLAYED AT THE CONVENTION CENTER. OUR ENTIRE STAY WAS FUN AND RELAXING. WE WOULD RECOMMEND THE PLACE TO OUR FRIENDS AND WILL BE STAYING AGAIN.

Everything great. Beds a little too firm, but slept good on night 2.

This was the best vacation rental by far! The house was a homestead then a boarding house. There are 3 porches, and they all have a great view. The AC and all of the appliances worked. There’s a creek close by to fish in. The cottage is adorable, functional, and I can’t wait to come back! Thank you!

This is a wonderfully restored home. Very comfortable and clean. Exactly what we wanted for a quiet, quick weekend get away. The owners are fabulous and very responsive.

Restored dogtrot house was lovely. Like walking down memory lane. Enjoyed eating and visiting around the kitchen table with my family. But they need a bigger coffee pot, lol

My family stayed here for my birthday (because my hubs is awesome) and we highly enjoyed ourselves. Its obvious someone restored this place with care and put effort into making it nice for renters. There is a ton of history in the decorations and articles about the house. The setting is gorgeous, the home super clean. We loved it and will 100% stay again.

Enjoyed visiting with my brother and his wife. They are owners of the Red Rooster Vintage Store in downtown Shirley. Very quiet neighborhood! Hope to visit and stay here again.
We left a small make up bag that we would like back.

Our stay in Shirley, Arkansas at the Cottrell home was a great experience. We were traveling with our dog and the large yard was perfect for him to run and explore.
There are not many restaurants close, we cooked most meals in the large kitchen. The kitchen had all of the kitchen items to prepare a meal. There are three porches, two are screened in and the beautiful covered front porch. We enjoyed sitting on the porches reading and relaxing.
We both felt like we were living in a time of the past when life was slow and you can just sit and enjoy the view.
There are many trips you can take from Shirley,
we visted Mountain View for the day and visited the Blanchard Springs Caverns and trails. Thete is a beautiful waterfall there to see. I would definitely recommed this home it was amazing. We will definitely return to stay again.

The pictures online did the property no justice. It's so much more beautiful in person! We loved every last thing there! Had so much fun!!!
