About this cottage rental
Newly remodeled 200 sq ft attached apartment with separate private entrance, deck and fire pit. The yard is beautifully overgrown with tropical plants. The apartment includes a small bedroom and separate kitchen/sitting area. The new bathroom is accessed from the private deck just outside the sitting area which is handy when you are outside relaxing or after a sandy day at the beach.
This industrial mini house vibe is not your typical Hawaii vacation spot but is a very clean, private and a convenient location for most Maui activities: surfing or windsurfing at Ho'okipa or Kanaha beaches, kiting in Kahului, hiking at Haleakala and at Waihee Ridge trail, visiting Makawao, Kihei, Kula and/or Haiku.
The rate is low because it is small and unique with no view or beach access. The apartment/property are a place to hang your swim togs and rest after a fun day out exploring. It's a place to wake up to the sound of chickens and roosters while enjoying a cup of coffee on the deck with a colony of cats that hang out on the property.
The apartment includes WiFi, parking, smartTV and some beach toys that can be borrowed (stand up paddle board, beach chairs, cooler, beach blankets/towels, beach BBQ, beach wagon). The parking is right outside the apartment. The property is fully fenced with manual open/close entry gate. The property has several outdoor lounge areas with chairs, outdoor pillows and one area with a fire pit table for guests to relax....cute vintage trailer with seating nearby outside but not usable as VRBO sleeping space (no power).
BEDROOM: Separate bedroom with queen bed, new wall mount AC installed June 2023 that cools bedroom and living space. There is a deadbolt on the door between the apartment and main house that you can lock and one on the house side that I lock. There is a barn door type sliding door between the bedroom and apartment living area.
LIVING SPACE: Access to the apartment is via glass slider, with screen, and a locked key entry. Living space has a two-seater couch and a small kitchen. Partial kitchen has a sink; counter height fridge with small freezer; multi-cooker (combined air fryer/toaster/convection/oven/pizza/wings maker); coffee maker & dishes. Kitchen has no dishwasher or stove. Apartment has some condiments, basic spices and coffee. There is a propane and electric BBQ for your use near the deck.
The AC and fans keep the apartment nice and cool. The deck and yard can be hot during full sun, nice/shady when the sun passes over this area There is shade under the trees in the shared outside seating areas and shade later in the day.
The apartment is located in Wailuku, central Maui, which provides great central access to the island and sunny/warm weather for most of the year, cooler in November/December/January.
The apartment is located in a semi-industrial area. There is an excellent restaurant, Tiffany's which is owned by Sheldon Simeon (Top Chef contestant twice) and a bar, Da Babooze, within walking distance. The bar serves regulars and is never disruptive to the neighborhood.... I don't hear them when I'm outdoors in the evening.
Distances from the apartment:
Maui Airport - 3.5 mi
Waihee Ridge Trail - 4.6 mi
Ho'okopa Beach - 9.0 mi
Makena Beach - 19 mi
Ocean Vodka Distillery - 10 mi
Haleakala - 20 miles
Hana Town - 34 mi
Kula Town - 14 mi
Haiku Town - 16 mi
Lahaina Town - 12 mi
Makawao Town - 10 mi
Kihei Town- 8.8 mi
Finally - we care for an outdoor cat colony that hangs around the property throughout the day and are standing by for dinner around 6:30....the cats do not come indoors but might get comfy on the outdoor furniture. .... oh & as everywhere on Maui there are chickens, chicks and roosters.

Host was amazing with returning messages and communication. Super easy check in and check out. Propery was small but had everything you needed. Ample parking and gate made it a safe place to stay.

We had a fantastic stay at Terry’s place. This was the second half of our trip to Maui, the first being in a resort, so it was nice to spend some time away from the crowds. The apartment had everything we needed when it was time to relax before or after our daily activities checking out the island. We enjoyed spending time outside on the porch and hanging out with the cats that live in the yard. Terry was a great host- friendly and available if needed but otherwise hands off and offering privacy. We would definitely stay here again. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a low key and down to earth home base for an active Maui vacation.

This little apartment was the perfect get away for me and my partner. It was a very quiet neighborhood and clean place. We also felt very safe. Terry was an excellent host and was very kind to us. One of my favorite parts about our stay is the separate bathroom area/shower and the furry little friends we got to meet.

Small apartment, was perfect location to call the things we were wanting to do. Very clean.

Very compact but clean and pretty, beautiful garden. The surrounding area has a rather run-down feel, lots of boarded up shops, it was nice to walk around and explore the neighbourhood, but not much else to do. A nice place for a short stopover. Expect to be woken up early by roosters, possibly before dawn, but otherwise comfortable and highly recommended. Good communication and clear instructions from host.

Terry was great with providing info and recommendations. The place is clean and well stocked, including water bottles, sunscreen & towels. She even brought fresh bananas in the morning :) The bathroom has a cool surfboard shower and is only a step out the front door and has a lock. Felt safe a a traveling female.
Sweet kitties are around but not in the way/don’t touch you and don’t try to get into the apartment. Not the best place if you have a fear of cats, but there are no lions or tigers 😸

Place is small and as described. It was a great place as we needed it for a two night island hop for a wedding. Only downfall is all the cats that are running around outside and on the car. The room didn’t smell as long as you kept the windows shut, but there is AC to keep the unit cool. The owner is friendly and responds quickly.

Rental had everything you need and was great value for the price. It’s in central Maui so it’s easy to get around to all parts of the island

Great starting of point. Totally cool setup, everything you need is right there. Off the beaten path, even had an orchestra of roosters in the neighborhood to wake up to. Extremely relaxing. Good pick!!

This was the perfect stay for us for a quick trip to Maui. We were out most of the day and into the night so we did not spend a tremendous amount of time in the property, I mean its Hawaii so we wanted to be out exploring the beautiful island. The space was not a huge place, but it had everything we needed (and more). It was clean, cozy and beautiful. The owner was super friendly but also gave us our space. There were a number of chickens and cats but they kept their distance and were not in our space, but coexisted perfectly. The outside space was also extremely nice. If you wanted to cook there, utensils, cooking methods, and even some spice were available. I was a little concerned about the separate bathroom situation, but that was not a problem at all! I would 100% recommend this space for a quick or longer trip!

We had such a wonderful time staying with Terry. The apartment is spotlessly clean and so joyfully decorated and it has everything you need, including lots of USB plugs, kitchen equipment, etc. The bed is comfy and the shower is great. The garden is delightful and Terry had so many great local tips for food and entertainment. We felt right at home!

This cozy apartment was just what we needed for our island hop from Oahu to Maui to take the ferry to visit Lanai for a day. Terry is great and we stayed for one night so we could take a flight back to Oahu. When our ferry returned to Maui we chatted with Terry and had an amazing dinner at Tiffany’s just up the street. The apartment had an abundance of thoughtful touches for our stay and we met such great people. I am a cat lover, so we visited the cat sanctuary on Lanai and enjoyed Terry’s cats on Maui. We had a great time!

The room was clean and inviting, and well appointed.
The roosters are in the area are there to get you awake if you've forgotten your alarm clock!
Terry is a great hostess and ensured that my short stay was comfortable.

This was the perfect place to stay for 1 person or a couple. Nothing fancy but quaint and cozy. Perfect for active people looking for a place to rest and sleep in between site seeing, conferences or beach time. The host is fabulous. Will stay again!

This is a small efficient apartment that exceeded all our expectations. I would highly recommend this place for a couple or solo traveler. Although this trip I was with my partner, I would not hesitate to stay there by myself. It was quiet, safe, clean and comfortable. Definitely will come stay again if it’s available next time!

This is a great stay. The best parts were the cats. They are super sweet but will leave you alone if you don't enjoy cats. The host was amazing and provided great service and recommendations. She was responsive and proactive in communicating with us. This place is within walking distance of several restaurants. We ate at one and it was delicious. I would 100% stay here again.

Super convenient location really close to the airport. Seamless check-in, Terry left lights on for us as we were checking in late. Comfy bed and pillows.

If you are looking for a beach side or close to beach retreat, this is not the place. However, if you want a safe, basic place to shower, sleep and relax a bit before your next Maui adventure, this place is perfect. Super cute, super clean, super comfy and everything my wife and I needed for our trip. Terry is a gracious host with great recommendations. Close to a bunch of amazing, truly local, places to eat and get great drinks...including the hole in the wall at the corner...iykyk! From here you can be in Paia in 15 minutes or Kihei in 30. Other reviewers notes that it smelled like cats. It did not at all and the cats were friendly(ish) but not annoying. Terry is doing a great thing giving them foster care and helping all the cats after the fires!
Again, great spot for busy adventures! Thank you so much Terry!

I spent 5 nights here and loved it. Nice and easy to get to from the airport and loved having the little kitchen area with a mini fridge, microwave and toaster oven so I could save on some meals. I really enjoyed the Colony of cats, especially the select few that would come up to get their belly rubbed and say hi. Terry was so nice and welcoming and communicated well. Would definitely rent again!

So, i would go here again TOMORROW. JUST RIGHT. JUST GREAT. JUST WONDERFUL! My husband of 20 years and I were so happy to meet Kendra spontaneously, and enjoed the reflection in this space. We were hardly there, but when we were, I was so happy to be there. Love, love, love.

The tiny place was appointed well, great hostess , As seniors we could have had a roomier place ( could only get out of one side of the bed . All was decorated well. Cats greeted you at the door in the morning..Bathroom one step out side to a door .. nice bath area . Would say would have loved it if we were a younger couple . It for us was small .. We only stayed one night , so it was fine . The oener very very nice and it was clean and well appointed. She thought of everything. ! I wish we could have seen the inside for space esp the bed situated against the wall Over all it was fine just tiny!

We loved it.

Loved our stay here! We enjoyed several local restaurants and bars. Easy access to everything. Be advised, lots of cats running around outside. This was not a problem for us but if you are highly allergic just be aware. Overall a great home base for exploring this side of Maui!

the location was ideal for my stay;
i found everything to be functional and reliable.
my nose is on the sensitive side, and in the bedroom there is wafts of cat litter…
it is a petite retreat nonetheless. :)

My wife and I stayed here for 4 days and found it to be exactly what we needed. Terry gave us all the information before we arrived on the island; even checked beforehand to confirm we were OK with the space. Checking in was simple.
The location in central Maui made activities around the island convenient. There are tons of food options were available within a 10 minute drive. We were within 30 minutes of the start of the Road to Hana, beaches in Kihei and the airport.
The room itself was great for us; we spent more time in the room than planned because of some of the weather on the island, and while the space is small, it never felt too cramped.
The highlight for us was the cats that would greet us every morning and each time we came back to the room.

Little hidden gem in the heart of the city. Very good use of it’s space. Cozy and clean. The shower is pretty rad!

Loved the Hawaiian decorating touches including the surfboard as part of the shower. Do not recommend bringing large suitcases for this unit. The fob for the gated entry gave a sense of security. The cat scat mats worked beautifully. We ate in-house breakfast each day and dinner away each night. The unit is not set up to cook a full meal. The night lighting is subdued, pretty and useful for bathroom access at night. The bed was very comfortable. If you are going to be away sightseeing all day, this is a lovely little space to come to sleep at night.
8.0 / 10.0
It suited our purposes but was very tiny. 4 people could not fit to all sit down. Worked out for a one night stay going to airport. Lots of cats.
10.0 / 10.0
This location was very relaxing! Just what we needed. Terry was available to answer questions, "how do we start the fire pit?" and others. It was great to have all the basics (seasonings, dishes) for food prep, bathing and beach visits. The indoor area is small but sufficient and well thought out. The outdoor area is marvelous (and why we went to Hawaii). Definitely the perfect location for us.
8.0 / 10.0
The property was very nice. Everything a small studio apartment would have. Very clean inside. Lots of extras just in case you forgot something. My only problem was all the cats. They are everywhere and you can clearly smell them inside the apartment. Couldn’t have the windows open because you’d get slapped in the face with cat smell.
