About this house rental
Summary:
This charming Grade II listed Georgian cottage in Taunton's Independent Quarter is brimming with character. Surrounded by pubs, shops & more, it’s perfectly situated near the centre. When you're not out exploring, settle into your relaxing home. Rustle up dinners in the well-equipped kitchen before snuggling up to a film on the smart TV. Up the spiral staircase, find 2 king-size bedrooms & a bathroom with bath/shower. Outside, enjoy a patio with alfresco seating. Paid & free parking nearby.
The Space:
The cottage is tucked away in a surprisingly quiet location, even though it's surrounded by the hustle and bustle of Taunton. It's in the Independent Quarter which is home to over 50 local independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. It's also right by the Somerset Cricket Ground and the Taunton Brewhouse Theatre.
Anstey Cottage is over 200 years old. It's full of character and charm, so don't expect brand new fixtures and fittings. The layout is quite quirky, with a spiral staircase leading upstairs. So it may not be suitable for all tastes or those with mobility limitations. Access to the second bedroom is through the first bedroom. There is a pull out room divider available to add privacy if required.
Outside is a good sized courtyard with a picnic bench where you can enjoy alfresco dining and drinks in the warmer months.
Guest Access:
Entire Home.
The Neighborhood:
The cottage is located in Taunton, a vibrant town nestled in the heart of Somerset. Thanks to its central location, you’re surrounded by many cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars and shops. The Independent Quarter is the hub of local, independent sellers so there’s plenty on offer.
Discover the rich history of the area at the Museum of Somerset or wander through the historic Taunton Castle. Explore the picturesque Vivary Park, perfect for strolls or picnics by the lake. Catch a show at the Brewhouse Theatre or enjoy live music at one of the town's many venues.
In just 30 minutes, you can drive to the rugged coastline of Exmoor National Park. Spanning over 250 square miles, it’s ideal for hiking, wildlife spotting, and scenic drives. You can discover charming villages nestled amidst rolling hills, such as Dunster with its medieval castle and quaint streets. Relax on the sandy beaches of Minehead or enjoy water sports along the coast. The West Somerset Railway even offers a steam train journey through picturesque countryside. And when you get hungry, indulge in local cuisine at traditional pubs or visit farmers' markets for fresh produce to cook up at home.
Getting Around:
The cottage is located right in the centre of town. It is therefore easy walking distance from the bus station & train station. Taxis are also readily available.
For those that drive, there is limited free on street parking on Priory Bridge Road and some of the surrounding streets, but it can be difficult to find a spot. Alternatively, you can use the nearby paid parking which is free from 6 pm to 8 am and all day/night on Sundays. There are two main car parks: Coal Orchard car park - limited to 2 hours, and Canon Street car park - all day parking with no restrictions on time.
If you want to visit the surrounding areas but do not have a vehicle, there is a Budget Car hire a short walk away from the cottage. This is likely easier (and cheaper) than using public transport or taxis to get around. It is possible to get to the surrounding areas via bus link, however a little less convenient.
Other Things to Note:
The property has a spiral staircase so it may not be suitable for those with mobility limitations.
Access to the second bedroom is through the first bedroom, however, there is a room divider to provide privacy.
The wood burner can't be used for safety reasons.
