Region: Littered with rural villages, half-timbered buildings and heritage sites, with links to the neighbouring cities of Manchester and Liverpool, Cheshire offers picturesque landscape scenery in North West England.

Town: Chester has been dubbed "the pearl of the North-West of England" rather correctly. The city's ability to contain remnants from every historical era, including Roman walls and an amphitheatre, mediaeval churches, Elizabethan timber-framed mansions, Georgian terraces, Victorian restorations, and 21st-century architecture, may be its most remarkable feature. The city has a lot to offer visitors, including fantastic shopping in and near the well-known Tudor "Rows" and relaxing strolls along the Roman Walls, along to the River Dee, and through the gorgeous Grosvenor Park. Visit Chester Racecourse, spend the day at the famed Chester Zoo, or see the city's stunning ancient cathedral. Further out, the picturesque market towns and villages of Cheshire, the Wirral Peninsula with its world-class golf courses, the spectacular Welsh mountains and coastline, and Liverpool, Manchester, and the North Wales coast are all easily accessible by rail.
