There is simply no better location in Varanasi, right on the banks of the Ganges, and we booked a room on the top floor with a balcony facing the river. It was the monsoon so the river was high and you couldn't walk along the bank as you would at other times, but that was made up for by the clouds of little swifts, swallow-like birds that constantly chase insects over the water and therefore came almost onto our balcony. We could see all the coming and going on the swollen river, and look south along the ghats, with smoke from the Manikarnika burning ghat on our left, and to our right the Dashashwamedh Ghat where foreign tourists can get front row seats to watch the prayer to the Ganges every evening (the hotel can arrange it).
Leaving the hotel meant walking through Old Town alleys so narrow even autorickshaws cannot enter, although you do have to dodge motorcycles, bicycles and cows (thankfully the water buffalos were apparently recently relocated). The people, schools, shops, eateries and temples everywhere are fascinating. The streets can be daunting, but we felt more comfortable after a tour of the neighbourhood with Balu, a very well informed guide who works with the hotel, and whom we would very much recommend (and yes, his name does mean "bear".) The hotel also arranged the traditional dawn boat ride for us, essential for starting to understand Varanasi.
Apart from that, we didn't have to leave the hotel that much, as the restaurant had a full menu of good Indian and what might be called backpacker-Western food, including cold beverages, even though it was the off season. The roof restaurant had a magnificent view, and we could hear people practicing tabla in the adjacent music school.
The location of the guest house is what makes it so amazing, so this isn't really a complaint, but that location also means you cannot take a vehicle from the closest place a car or rickshaw can come, to the hotel. They say it's a 15 minute walk. I didn't time it, as we made it largely while politely attempting to not collide with columns of chanting Hindus carrying early-morning jugs of Ganges water up the riverbank as we walked down it, pursuing our suitcases as they disappeared down the alleys on the heads of the hotel guys. At 5:30 in the morning after an overnight train that can have its difficult moments. But the hotel sent a taxi to get us from the station, and the aforementioned guys to carry our luggage from the taxi drop-off point, and we had booked for the preceding night so we had a room, and bed if needed, waiting on arrival. So it all worked out fine.
Which is to say, if you can at all manage that walk, don't necessarily let it put you off. It sounds like a headache given the drive-up nature of most hotels, but it's part of the Varanasi magic. I'm pushing 70 and not terribly athletic, and I really hadn't slept well on the train, and I managed.
Also: the PR photos for the guesthouse show swinging chairs on the balconies facing the Ganges. They have all disappeared, it seems. Extremely minor point, I loved sitting on that balcony on a perfectly ordinary chair, but those would be fantastic if they were ever to re-appear.

Great location in Varanasi’s old town. affordable tours and boat rides. the patio was confy.
no free breakfast, and you had to buy water at the restaurant of the guest house. the food was average.

Very good kitchen and staff.
The AC must get checked more frequently, so that it does not happen, that it's not properly working. I had to wait 3 days for it to get fixed.

The staff cleans all around it every day and it’s very joyful and full of green around, not mentioning the view of the Ganga river from the roof top and some of the rooms.
Nothing.

It is an historical building very beautiful and well kept. the decoration of the room in tradicional stile and as well as the rest: patio, restaurant and a top terrace with view to the Ganges.
A poor internet connexion in the room

Location at the Ganges is perfect. Owner let stay in the room during the day, because I had a late flight. I recommend an airport or train pick-up, because the Guest House is not easy to find.

Amazing room view to gange river!
Very expensive stay. Value for money 7/10

Location is very convinient, althoug cannot be reached by car (keep that in mind).
Nice restaruant, with rooftop view; patio where you can relax. Spacious room.
I was staying in a budget room - located outside of the main building (I was informed before arrival that this will be the case) - this room was very loud, because of no glass in windows (and there were 3 windows looking over 3 directions). Short walk from the main building, but the surrounding spoils the otherwise good experience.
2.5
The proximity to the the Kashi Vishwanath temple and Vishalakshi temple. Also the property provides great access to river Ganges.
For aged people the stairs are very steep and not ergonomic. Frequent power cuts was a spoiler. The reception counter staff make you feel you are not wanted and that they count more on the foreign tourists. The best people are the ones who transport your bags to the junction to board a taxi or rickshaw. The mobile network as well as internet connectivity is horrible

Good location, good people and good staff. Place in just on Ganga Ghat. All are cooperative. Mr Prajapati is best at reception and very polite and helpful. The vibes of the place is good. One should try it for leisure and relaxing.

Food was a little disappointing and prices were a bit on the higher side...

nice common courtyard (but my bedroom was in another building)
good position next to ghat but in narrow street that doesn’t look very safe. quite clean
i booked a bedroom which looked nice but they put us in a much smaller and uglier one. later i discovered it was less expensive than the one i had already payed for. i asked to be moved in the room i had booked, and it was nice, but in another building which was far different from the major one. they gave me a wrong Wi-Fi pw.cold shower

location
cockroachs in the room, was not aware that our accommodation was in another building which we had to request to change to the main building, which they very kindly did. music classes were running till late

It's located at a spot where almost all main destination like Vishvanath temple, Vishalakshi, Annapurna are very nearby. Right on the banks of Ganga with beautiful view. The other building of this property is located 2mins away, it doesn't have Ganga facing room. It was clean and well maintained. Staff is helpful. Restaurant serves good food. Loved my stay here!
Passage lights are very dim. Becomes difficult to lock and open doors from outside in the evening.

the location was brilliant + clean + the restaurant on the rooftop - was all amazing!!!
WiFi isn’t available in the room which was a major discomfort.
