Not recommended for families. most people staying here are 70+ because they have a Timeshare. You will get a room on the ground floor facing the street that is unsafe. Bathrooms stink all the way to the room. Air conditioner is louder than airplane engine. Hotel is across ATV so you will hear the ATV all night and teenagers screaming. Unsanitary pool and hot tub stinks. security guard and pool guy screamed at our kids because they didnt dip their feet in the fungus buckets that everyone must use to wipe their sandy feet before going into the pools. The hotel is run down. this is really a 2 star airport hotel. kiddie pool is tiny and dirty. its not a real beach its a bay with waves that will knock you out. The hotel is so cheap with their towels you must have a card to get towels what a joke. nightmare!!

We enjoyed our stay at Royal Islander. Location is perfect with easy access to restaurants and grocery store. It was really quiet but we managed to meet some very nice people. We would love to return

This was my first trip to St. Martin, and choosing Royal Island Resort La Plage in Maho (Dutch side) was a fantastic decision. The room matched the description from when we made our reservation, and the location couldn’t be better—within walking distance of restaurants, markets, nightlife, and casinos. I fell in love with the place as soon as I saw it. The pool was impressively large, and the beach was absolutely charming. Whether you’re at the pool or on the beach, you can watch planes take off and land. Overall, I’d give it a 10/10 recommendation.

Nice location and beach close to everything. Very outdated though the rooms not too clean. Musty smell.

Fabulous staff and manageress who upgraded us to make our stay more comfortable ! Security staff are fabulous too and helped us to move in smoothly.

Property located in a great spot. Mullet Bay beach is a great beach and easy to get to. Restaurants in area great. Grocery store is also so convenient. New crepe place is a great addition. Lovely owners. Wish they would spend money in updating couches but overall still one of the best places to stay.

The rooms were dated (very) but clean. The pool was amazing the beach was beautiful. The hotel’s cafe was very reasonable and the food was good definitely recommend.
Very relaxing unlike the hotel next door.

The hotel is a little bit outdated but in a super location. Shopping stores, casino, restaurants, market, airport, etc...The beach is super nice and the water is as clear as glass. The staff was very friendly and attentive but the room we stayed at has seen better days. Being next to the airport run way is cool the first day but gets old pretty quick. My family stayed away from using the pool as the chlorine smell was very strong and almost unbearable for our confort. The price is very fair for what you get and would stay again.

Unfortunately I found a cocoroach on the bathroom . A huge one .

The studio room was clean, comfy & well kept
The property was beautiful

Beaitiful location on beach, next to the airport runway so you will get up close views of the planes coming in. The planes are loud so if your not into that you may wanna stay elsewhere. Its also a busy area with loud music and car traffic, didnt bother us but we are city folks and used to the noise. Easy to walk to restaurants and shops and theres a small grocery market right behind hotel, very convenient location. Our only complaint is the bed was really hard and not very comfy.
4.1
Great place to stay, but you have to tolerate all the loud music at night, coming from the hotel next door - Sonesta. That wasn't pleasant when trying to sleep.

I love the location of the hotel and how friendly and helpful the staff was.

Property itself is good. Pool is good. There are many food options within a 2 min walk that range from cheap to higher end. Kitchen is always nice so you can make your own breakfast, etc. Decent grocery store right across the street. The flight landings and takeoffs are right beside the hotel and they are built in entertainment. This is NOT a problem for sleeping as the airport is basically shut down by early evening. I would rate higher, but there is no beach for the property. You have to go to the Maho beach which is in all the photographs of airplane landings, but as a beach it is actually small, poor, and not that safe (from a water/wave viewpoint). Do NOT allow little kids to wade in. Basically, Maho beach is just a photo op area for an hour. There are plenty of beaches on the island but you will need a car and planning.

The property was clean and staff were very nice ,the only thing i didn't like was no hot water in showers.

Beautiful beach and pool resort with lots of amazing places to eat at within walking distance.

Wonderful! Amazing location and beach. Friendly staff members.

There was hair in the sink and shower. The TV channels were limited and when I asked the front desk they said the person who programmed the TVs wouldn’t be back until the following day. Also the bar isn’t open until like 8p

Stayed 5 nights late April to early May. Whatever issue they had with the A/C and hot water were resolved before we arrived although it takes a minute for the hot water to really kick in. It's a clean, quiet place in a great location. Staff was very friendly, we were able to check in to our room early and keep our parking pass past checkout until we were ready to go to the airport. Definitely recommend if you want a calm, laid back place.

Must confirm your room is not close to runway
Need I say more
If can’t stay in other location across street
Also dance clubs till 2am boom boom bass

Three-night stay with three rooms booked, had no air conditioning for entire stay, plus no hot water until last day. Room temperatures reached 82F inside, This was blamed on Island work, but every facility and hotel around this facility had air conditioning and hot water, including Royal Islander's other site across the street which was not available or even offered. At check in we were told this was a problem for a couple of days prior to arriving, and we would be responsible for finding another place to stay with very little help or direction. Rooms were paid well in advance and paid in full through Expedia and any cancelation or refund would not be their responsibility. Coming down to SXM for over 25 years, and this was one of the worst if not worst stays due to the conditions that were not fixed and the customer service that should have been more proactive with updates throughout stay.

A dated yet beautiful convenient property near the airport and Maho beach. Donnette was particularly great during my check in and Mr. London is a great Activities Coordinator. I wish there was a room service option to order breakfast. Other than this great stay :)

The property had no AC the rooms were unbearably hot. Miserable conditions

The outside area of hotel was wonderful. We enjoyed the large pool with views of planes landing near by at the airport. The Tortuga restaurant had a nice breakfast reasonably priced. The issues we experienced were room related with the a/c not working all week and temperature around 80 making sleeping uncomfortable & losing hot water the last 2 days.

Very nice, very clean, needs some updating. Overall lovely.

We have had reservations at this property for several weeks. Our last day to cancel was March 30 for our April 13-16 stay. We have stayed here before and had a good experience.
On April 11 we were given information about the property that the air conditioning was not functioning. Just to be sure, we stopped by the hotel to confirm. Front desk representative confirmed there was no air conditioning on the property, but crews were hoping to have it fixed "soon". No time frame was given.
I contacted Expedia and texted with your representative to try and cancel our reservation with the property. Expedia rep. tried to cancel, but was denied even though there was no air conditioning. A later communication indicated that the a/c was fixed prior to our check in so we were satisfied to know a/c would be provided.
My husband and I check in on April 13th and are given a room where the thermostat is reading 84 degrees. Staff has provided a fan. A repair person stops by and works on the a/c unit and succeeds in reducing the temperature to 79 degrees, still unacceptable.
On April 15 we were offered the opportunity to "upgrade" and were led to believe the unit would be more adequately cooled. When we changed to the upgraded room, the temp was 76.5 and no fan provided. I requested the fan from our previous room and they agreed that I could retrieve the fan and take to our current room. After all of the trouble, we still ended up with 77 degrees when we checked out. No refunds given.

Great location in the heart of Maho Beach area, easily walkable to several wonderful restaurants and bars. The pool atmosphere is clean and relaxing. Nice daily housekeeping services. The kitchens have everything you'd need and a convenient grocery store right across the street.

Great stay! Conveniently located within walking distance to many restaurants and stores. Beautiful pool area.
