About this cottage rental
Red Roof Cottage is where marriage proposals happen, friends gathering is even more fun, and quiet weekends in the mountains are the norm. Roof Cottage is nestled deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains or what we fondly call high country. While at Red Roof Cottage you will disconnect from noise, work, and relax while listening to the rushing Tye River. Food will taste better, you will sleep better and you cannot help but enjoy being surrounded by nature. Red Roof Cottage is located on the scenic Crabtree Falls Highway which is designated as one of Virginia’s Scenic Byways. You are truly in for a beautiful drive once you start up Crabtree Falls Highway. You will pass through serene farmland and as you begin the gradual climb to Red Roof Cottage you will follow the Tye River on the spectacular winding mountain road and experience the river song the entire way. Take it slow and enjoy the beauty. Once at Red Roof Cottage you will immediately notice the 1400 square foot cottage resembles a tree house as it is built above the large parking area with the rushing Tye River below Red Roof Cottage. You will enjoy the constant river song of the Tye River both outside and inside. As you walk up the two sets of steps you will see the large sun deck with plenty of seating. You will also see the covered area on the deck that protects against the sun and afternoon showers. You will enter through the screen porch which is perfect for enjoying a meal at the large red picnic table or just relax and read a good book from the Red Roof Cottage Book Nook as you sit and take in the sounds of nature from the wicker chairs or sofa. The screened porch has proved to be a guest favorite. Inside Red Roof Cottage you are surrounded by all natural wood, a vaulted ceiling, large windows that highlight the Valley and its various ridge lines, overstuffed chairs and sofa. The first floor bedroom has a king bed and opens to the sun deck, and the second floor loft area has a queen bed with a private balcony complete with antique rod iron chair and foot stool. Both beds have high thread count sheets and Ameri Sleep mattresses, another guest favorite. Both floors have private bathrooms with showers. Red Roof Cottage has a well stocked kitchen to include baking staples, assorted spices, complete set of pots and pans, crockpot, blender, cookie sheets, baking pans, tea kettle and an assortment of coffee options. You can make your morning coffee via a Nespresso, Auto Drip or Espresso pot, and if you like your coffee beans extra fresh a bean grinder is also provided. Your morning coffee or tea really does taste better at Red Roof Cottage. The second floor loft area has a nice sitting area that offers the best views in the cottage. You will also find the Book Nook and plenty of games in the Book Nook as well as the multi drawer cabinet in the sitting area.
Depending on your interests, you can enjoy some of the best hiking on the East Coast. Red Roof Cottage is less than 15-20 minutes away from The Priest, Spy Rock, Appalachian Trail, Three Ridges, Blue Ridge Parkway, and 5 minutes from the famous Crabtree Falls hike. If you want to exercise closer to home, you can always hike our nine acres that surround Red Roof Cottage. Fishing on the Tye River is allowed with appropriate licensing and great fun. Along with hiking and fishing Red Roof Cottage is close to 12 Ridges Vineyard as well as numerous vineyards and breweries in the Lovingston area. Information on all the vineyards and breweries is provided for guests as well as hiking maps and hiking guide books.
While you grill whatever you caught or brought on our outdoor gas grill, enjoy one of two fire pits. Follow the solar lights down the trail off of the parking area to the primitive fire pit or use the above ground fire pit outside the screened porch. Red Roof Cottage provides all the wood you could possibly need.

RRC is absolutely gorgeous inside and outside. The furnishings, decor, and attention to detail speak eloquently of hosts that care deeply about their property and their guests enjoyment. The kitchen is very well equipped with an abundance of coffee options (makers as well as coffee pods and fresh beans) and spices. The bed and bath linens are top of the line. Shampoos, conditioners, body washes, face spritzers, and make up remover pads beyond expectations. My casual comment months ago about the trip as a birthday celebration led to a lovely welcoming surprise - a Happy Birthday cake and bottle of wine in the frig. No review could be complete without mentioning the beautiful setting. Decking with comfortable chairs, balconies, the screened in porch, and fire pits with the backdrop of the rushing sound of the Tye River provided wonderful starts to our days with coffee and wrapped them up with cocktails.

My boyfriend and I decided to vacation in Virginia as a getaway trip and we couldn’t have been more pleased with the Red Roof Cottage. We hiked nearby, visited the local towns, and spent time outside on the deck listening to the river. The attention to detail in this cottage are unmatched; I felt like I was right at home. It was so romantic, in fact, that by the end of the trip, my boyfriend asked me to marry him. I said yes! Definitely a vacation to remember and the location was the perfect spot!

RRC is one of the most well cared for properties we've stayed in and we travel a lot. From the moment we walked in we found treats for us, the kids and our fur babies. Every little detail was perfection. We hiked Crabtree Falls and it was everything I'd hoped for. My preteen daughter lived in her robe and couldn't believe Robin has Sol de Janeiro products in the shower. The house smelled of lavendar and had anything you could imagine. The organic coffee was to die for. Literally what my cottage dreams are made of.

Red Roof cottage is a lovely place in a gorgeous location. The property is so so clean, warm and inviting. The porch and screened patio are great places to spend your time. There are too many amenities to count but a short list includes all you need for morning coffee, treats on arrival, and a fully stocked kitchen. We had a wonderful stay - hiking cranberry falls and visiting 12 ridges winery. Both are very close by. I cannot wait to return and highly recommend to all.

Red Roof Cottage could not have been more perfect! We had a great stay. It was the most, clean and maintained property I have ever stayed in. The cabin and the property are beautiful! It was stocked with everything we could have needed. All the extra little things like shampoo, conditioner, extra toiletries, robes, coffee, cookies, dog treats, etc., etc., etc., were very much appreciated and made it feel like a bed and breakfast. We really enjoyed listening to the storm while hanging out in the screened in porch. It was so peaceful! We hiked at the nearby Crab Tree Falls which was such a beautiful hike. The host was great and went over and above with every detail. If I am ever in the area again, I will definitely be staying here.

We had a great time at Red Roof Cottage. 5 stars all around. We had a college graduation party to attend on Saturday, and being from PA, we decided to make a weekend of it since we had to drive pretty far. On the last day, we decided to hike Crabtree Falls and we made it to the top of the falls. Excellent hike, but you have to be in good shape and go on a dry day because of slippery conditions. We lucked out and had perfect weather for it. The view at the top is amazing. We stopped at Black Bear Creamery on the way home and the ice cream was excellent...all home made, I believe. Our dog loved the treats that our host, Robin, left for her and we enjoyed the chocolate chip cookies and sparkling water! The cabin is decorated beautifully and the beds were comfortable. Various coffees and hot chocolate were also available to us. There are lots of steps to the cottage, so if you have trouble walking (like bad knees), this might not be the place for you, but I'm 65 and had no trouble at all.

This place was amazing! It has all the comforts of home and the views are wonderful. We had our dog with us and the cottage is really dog friendly. The place was spotless and the kitchen was well stocked. The bed was very comfortable and the wood stove was great with the cold mornings. We will definitely come back to visit.

We can not wait to go back and hike crabtree falls again and visit more of the local breweries.

Not only is the property in a perfect spot to get away and enjoy the beautiful Virginia mountains, but Robin is an absolutely fantastic host who thinks of every little detail to make your stay comfortable and even luxurious. We loved how close it was to hiking trails, and many delicious breweries and wineries!

This home was better than the description! So well maintained, clean, and attention to detail was top notch . Responsive and friendly host. Great location if you’re looking for an “off the grid” vacation close to trailheads and the AT. Loved every minute and hope to return.

Just wow- can’t say enough great things about this cabin. We traveled from out of state for a relaxing weekend away and the RRC was the perfect oasis. Not only is the cabin the coziest nestled in the mountains by a river but every detail was thought out. Robin was incredibly kind and went above and beyond for our stay. We already cannot wait to come back!

My wife and I had a great time at Red Roof Cottage. The owner Robin was absolutely fantastic the communication and making us feel so welcome. Everything has been thought of and the attention to detail is top notch. The RRC is well cared for and everything works as it should. Plenty of books, games, kitchen spices and essentials as well as extra toiletries if you forgot to bring them. The hiking and horseback riding close by were great. We look forward our next break away aND spending time at RRC.

We had a wonderful stay at RRC this weekend. The hosts are so very thoughtful and left some binoculars and walkie talkies my boys enjoyed on our hike and while exploring the property. We also went horseback riding nearby- also a fantastic experience. Highly recommend!

We had an absolutely incredible weekend at the Red Roof Cottage! Robin went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. I mentioned that this weekend was for our anniversary and she had treats waiting for us when we arrived! The cottage was so clean and well-stocked with anything you could need. Each room is so thoughtful in its layout and decoration - there are endless comfy chairs and cozy lamps. It is in the perfect spot, a short and beautiful mountain drive to cideries and restaurants. The property is beautiful, hidden away in the mountain side and near the Tye River (which you can hear from any room in the house!). Communication with Robin was great from start to finish. She allowed us to check in early and offered to let us stay past check out time. This place is a hidden gem! We found a treasure here and are already figuring out when to come back!

We had a wonderful weekend at this cottage! We arrived in the evening and the lights inside and out were so welcoming. The cottage was beautifully decorated and so inviting and cozy. The kitchen had everything we needed and there were complementary bottles of wine and sparkling water in the fridge. The bathrooms were stocked with toiletries and there were bathrobes and lovely smelling lavender satchels on each bed. The beds were very comfortable and sleeping in the loft was amazing with the sound of rain on the metal roof. Crabtree Falls was just minutes down the road and was a beautiful hike. We enjoyed sitting on the deck and had a fire in the fire pit in the evening. Robin was so attentive and when we had a question she replied immediately. She is an amazing host and we will definitely be staying at this cottage again!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at red roof cabin and can't wait to come again with our whole family. The cabin was easy to fine given Robins specific directions. The cabin was very clean when we arrived. Robin left a thoughtful welcome bag and refreshments in the fridge and there were fresh flowers on the table. The cabin was cozy and perfect to unplug and relax! It felt like a home away from home. There were 2 firepit areas and a beautiful screened in porch. We loved the upstairs loft sitting area ( stocked with fun games) and the library nook filled with great books on nearby trails and hiking. The kitchen was full of everything we needed pots pans spices plates measuring cups. The bathrooms were also stocked with toiletry items in case you forgot anything. The beds were very comfortable too! The cabin is close to Crabtree falls and is right beside the Tye river, which you can hear from the cabin. There are lots of nearby hiking trails, blue ridge parkway was only a short drive away and lots of wineries and breweries were within 30-45 minutes from the cabin. We are from GA and recently moved to VA. We enjoyed renting cabins in the GA blue ridge mountains and we wanted to find a great spot in VA and red roof cabin was the perfect location! We can't wait to book it again and we've been recommending it to all of our friends! We've stayed in a lot of cabins and this was one of the best cabin stays thus far!
