Tai and his parents are incredibly nice, polite and good hosts. The house is over 100 years old and has been beautifully renovated. The food was also delicious and there was a real care in the presentation of it as well. Would 100% return.

Tai was incredibly attentive and kind. Here are the numerous ways he went above and beyond:
-picked up our baggage at the station upon arrival
-picked us up from a local bar once we were done exploring
-drove us to the rental car station and translated to make sure we got everything we needed from the station
-explained in detail how to visit the local sites and how to get there
-drove us to the exit to make sure we were on the right path to the local sights
-dropped off our baggage at the train station prior to our departure
This doesn’t even cover the time spent at the hotel which was also excellent and far exceeded expectations. A monument should be constructed in honor of Tais kindness. A must stay destination.

Tai is considerate and nice throughout the stay. We have a great sleep at his sleep. Breakfast and the vibe of his house is wonderful. If we go back to Takayama one day, we must visit him again. :)

SOY was a beautifully designed and renovated guesthouse, hosted by Tai and his family who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. A Japanese breakfast using local ingredients was also included and was absolutely delicious! Tai was such a fantastic and friendly host throughout our stay, regularly offering help and providing recommendations (e.g., restaurants).
Thank you Tai for such a delightful stay in your guesthouse.

Beautiful Japanese traditional house, nicely decorated
Tai-san and his family are great hosts, they even took us to a restaurant and picked us after dinner
Tasty Japanese breakfast (we had the choice Western or Japanese)
Nice garden with koi fish and bee hive (hope we can taste the honey next time!)
All was perfect

This is the first time ever, I rate a hotel 10 out of 10. This place overwhelmingly exceeded my expectations in many areas. Before arriving we had one of the best meals I have ever eaten - Hida-beef in the city center, suggested and reserved by the hotel staff. The room (or rather flat) was large and phenomenally cosy, clean & beautiful. The breakfast was "perfect" and we had it while looking at a beautiful Japanese garden and watching many colorful koi enjoying their pond.
It was the first time ever, that I was fully convinced in a hotel that it should be more expensive.
Upon checkout, the staff correctly guessed that we had just got married and suddenly gave us all kinds of presents. (expensive ones). It would have been a perfect stay even without any gifts. But still, thank you.

Tai and his family are so helpful and welcoming! They really go out of their way to make your stay as relaxing as possible. Tai was very helpful in helping us to get around town and his food and drink recommendations were great. The property has a fantastic shared living area with cosy wood burner and the bedrooms are comfy and spacious. This was our favourite accommodation in the whole of Japan, wish we could have stayed longer!
