It is just a short walk to Lake Michigan, Frankfort Beach, Betsie Lake, and downtown Frankfort with its lovely shops and restaurants. NEIGHBORHOOD:
The property is located in the downtown Frankfort residential area. It is basically a northern Michigan small vacation town environment. It is very safe!
The home is in a great location for exploring the northwest corner of Michigan's Lower Peninsula! It is conveniently located close to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Lake Michigan, Betsie Lake, Crystal Lake, and the fun beach towns of Frankfort, Arcadia, Elberta, Beulah, and Empire. The home is also only a 21-minute drive from Crystal Mountain Resort for skiing, snowboarding, and winter sports.
Also, if larger-city things are desired such as lots of restaurants, great shopping, and lots of entertainment and nightlife options, the home is only an approx. 1-hour drive from downtown Traverse City, which has a wonderful collection of dining, shopping, and entertainment options!
ACCESS:
Guests have access to everything on the property except for the following:
* the large boat garage that is on the alley behind the house (There is a separate small garage at the end of the driveway that is available for guests to use.)
* owner storage closet on the second floor that is locked off
THE SPACE:
The Bayside Cottage is a very comfortable, cozy, bright, and dog-and-family-friendly vacation rental cottage to stay at while enjoying a nice family or group vacation in northern Michigan. The house has been extensively remodeled within the last 10 years. It has a bright, beautiful, and modern design that features a considerable amount of lightly-colored woodwork, a large number of windows that provide exceptional natural lighting and a relaxing, beachy, 'lake-effect' feel to the home, and the home is filled with beautiful original artwork that has been created by the property owner herself.
The cottage has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and is approx. 1750 square feet in size. It can sleep up to 12 adults. In terms of bedrooms and bathrooms, one of the 4 bedrooms is located on the first floor. It has a lovely queen-size bed in it and it has its own private bath. A thick curtain in the entryway to the bedroom can be closed for privacy to shut off the bedroom from the rest of the house. There are three bedrooms upstairs, including a kids room that has 2 very cute matching twin beds in it. The other two upstairs bedrooms each have a comfortable queen-size bed in them. (One of these two bedrooms also has a sofa bed in it, so that 4 adults can sleep in the bedroom.) There are 1.5 bathrooms downstairs (each downstairs bathroom has a shower) and a full bathroom upstairs that features a large and relaxing jetted tub. The common downstairs bathroom also includes a washer and dryer in it.
The kitchen has been recently updated and includes a new stainless steel refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave. The kitchen also has a gas range (with 4 gas burners and an oven), which works great for cooking delicious meals! The home also has a coffee pot, crockpot cooker, blender, toaster, and a good supply of pots and pans, dishes, silverware, and cutlery. There is also a gas grill in the backyard for grilling and an outdoor dining area in the backyard with outdoor dining furniture. The backyard is also fully fenced-in (which is great for kids and dogs) and there is a fun and family-friendly bonfire ring with Adirondack chairs in the backyard for cooking delicious s'mores at night!
The cottage also includes free super high-speed Wi-Fi, with speed up to 1000 Mbps. The home has 4 televisions with a very large 55-inch flatscreen television in the living room and 43-inch flatscreen televisions in 3 out of the 4 bedrooms. All of the televisions have Roku with live-streaming from Hulu (which provides the equivalent of cable television), PureFlix, Netflix, and Disney+. A good collection of board games is also provided at the home (in the living room) for lots of family fun!
The house does not have air conditioning, but it does have numerous ceiling fans and pedestal fans. Given these fans, the weather in northern Michigan, and the cottage's proximity to ever-cool Lake Michigan, air conditioning really is generally not needed to keep the cottage cool and comfortable. Central natural gas heating is provided for keeping the house warm and cozy in the winter. Water for the home is provided by Frankfort's public water system and a new water softener is in place to soften Frankfort's fairly hard public water. Sewage is handled by Frankfort public sewage system.
In terms of wheelchair-accessibility, the cottage unfortunately is not very wheelchair-accessible and we would not recommend it for individuals in wheelchairs. For individuals in wheelchairs or other special needs, we recommend one of our other cottages in Frankfort, The Leelanau Cottage, which is quite wheelchair-accessible.
Parking for up to 3 cars is available in the driveway. There is a small garage at the end of the driveway which is available to guests to use for storage of kayaks, canoes, bicycles, motorcycles, skis, snowboards, snowmobiles, or whatever else will fit in the garage.
TRANSIT:
It is recommended that guests have their own vehicle for transportation.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
1) PARKING: There is parking available in the driveway for up to 3 vehicles. There is also parking available behind the house and along the street in front of the house. Overnight parking is not permitted on the street though from November through April to facilitate snow removal from public streets. To avoid issues with the neighbors, we do limit the maximum number of vehicles at the property to 3 vehicles though. We also ask that guests do not park on the street in front of neighboring properties.
2) PETS: Guests are allowed to bring up to 3 dogs. Pets other than dogs and more than 3 dogs are both strictly prohibited. If bringing 1 to 3 dogs, please make certain that the dogs are included on the reservation so that the pet fee is appropriately applied.

We had a wonderful stay at this property, and felt comfortable, and pleased with all the room/bed options for our group of 12! Everything worked properly, and met our needs for a wonderful long weekend away!

The house was comfortable and spacious for our group of six. It was not as clean as I would’ve expected for the price. There were cobwebs and the floors left our feet dirty. (Pretty common for a beach house) The landscape and the backyard could have been spruced up. However, it was nice to have seating provided for outdoor enjoyment in the front and back. The kitchen was well stocked and the appliances were new. The beds were oh so comfortable. The main floor master gets road noise but a fan covers it up nicely.

Thought the beach was easier to walk to?
Wish there was more info on cottage for nearby activities. Restaurants

Perfect location for family getaway within walking distance of restaurants and the beach. Perfect backyard space for dogs with a grill and fire pit. Only complaint was there were not enough dishes for family of 8.

The house was wonderful once again. Location is perfect for walking downtown. It would be nice to have wine glasses in the home to avoid drinking out of plastic, but otherwise very well stocked kitchen. We will be back!

Very nice upgrades since we stayed here last., much easier to care for. Short walk to downtown. Especially enjoyed the art show/sale. Loved the peaceful calm and slower pace.

The house was great. Large home with 4 bedrooms. We had two dogs who enjoyed the space and fenced in back yard. Very clean. Only thing we couldn’t get the jacuzzi tub to work called and was explained how to work but it still didn’t. Did text to let know still not working I did look forward to but other then that over all great place to stay. Walking distance to town and water. We would definitely stay again

I mistakenly booked a property the weekend AFTER I needed it. I found out the morning we were to leave for Frankfort. Unfortunately, the property I booked wasn't available. The owners worked to find me a similar property which was perfect for our needs!

We enjoyed our stay, as the home is perfectly located in downtown Frankfort, close to some excellent dining options and to the scenic lighthouse and beach.
The home is nicely decorated, for cozy comfort.

Decided to stay in Frankfort for a weekend ski trip at Crystal. While it was very cold, my family of 5 very much enjoyed the town and short hike on the beach to view a spectacular sunset and some of the biggest waves I’ve ever seen on the lake. The house was very accommodating and provided space for my family to spread out.

Great communication from the host and location to lots of local sites. This home is an easy walk to the beach and offered a lot of extras like soap, towels, linens, and paper products. Thanks for a great stay!!

Great Location. Close to town and beach. Easy walk to restaurants and shopping.

Basic older house with simple functional furniture. Downstairs bathroom (only shower) is accessed through the master bedroom. No street parking at night (in the winter ???) parking behind the garage which was not cleared after the last snowfall. This resulted in two $ 20 parking tickets for us. Property manager was responsive and resolved minor issues promptly.

Close to activities, plenty of space.

This is a very spacious home located in Frankfort we enjoyed our stay with 2 other families in the house and never felt crowded. We went to the beach, rode bicycles or walked around town daily & even had a campfire one night. The home was very clean and Desiree was only a call away if needed.

This house served as a nice vacation home for four adults with two more family members visiting us daily. We enjoyed hanging out on the front porch and in the spacious backyard. The location is great for easy walks to Frankfort's quant shops and restaurants, water front parks, and local grocery store. Although the house shows signs of wear, the home is clean and family friendly.

The house was clean and very comfortable. 🤗I had everything I needed for a week of work and R&R. The internet was fast and reliable for conferencing. I particularly enjoyed the lovely, quiet neighborhood and felt safe staying alone. Lots of blocks to walk! My pup enjoyed the fenced back yard and “playing” with the local bunnies. I hope to return to Frankfort in the warmer weather. Thank you for sharing your home!

Had rented the property several years ago and was pleasantly surprised by new furniture and large screen TV in living room. Was great for watching football and movies. Kitchen was great for busy Thanksgiving dinner prep. Roomy bedrooms to retreat for personal time .

Lots of room, good beds, great location. Could use some updates, but overall was very satisfied with the accommodations.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bayside House. It was clean, had plenty of supplies (towels, toilet paper) and the beds were so comfortable. Very close to downtown although we never walked as it was a little chilly and rainy while we were there (Autumn). Easy check in with the code and no lost keys!! A beautiful and easy drive up to Sleeping Bear Dunes. Thanks for a great stay, would stay again.

Great location near downtown Frankfort. Enjoyed the fall colors at their peak. Eric was great with communication and we enjoyed our long weekend stay.

Eric responded quickly to every question. We enjoyed our stay in this comfortable home. The kitchen was well stocked and the fenced back yard was pleasant for use of the fire pit one night. We love the location and often walked to the harbor, beach or a restaurant.

Great location close to downtown and the lake.
Recommend a gardener to work the perennials that are hiding under the weeds.

Plenty of room and large bedrooms for our two families. Home was clean and stocked upon our arrival. Pictures accurately represent the property. Very grateful to be able to bring our dog and for the fenced in back yard. A few issues here and there such as trash in the garage, broken chair and gate, and an empty propane tank. Owner replaced the tank the same day and stated he would fix the former two upon our departure. We tossed the trash. None caused an issue for us. Overall, the location is extremely convenient, but as other reviews state, this home is on a major (for Northern MI) road. It is always quiet out back, but the front/Master room, in front, was a bit hard to sleep in due to traffic on the road. We appreciate the fans, especially in the upper bedrooms, as it was warm at night and there is no AC (nor have we ever found AC in any Northern MI rental). Head's up that, as the pictures show, the second shower is on the first floor; The upstairs bathroom is large and bright, but has a tub, not a shower. Again, not an issue for us, but did require those of us upstairs to go back downstairs to shower. Overall, we enjoyed the home, especially the large backyard with fire pit and chairs, and absolutely loved Frankfort and the surrounding area.

The house was perfectly clean, had enough bedrooms for growing family, and was a nice walk to downtown and the beach. The check-in and check-out process was easy. Would definitely stay here again.
