I booked this through a third party and didn’t receive my code for the door, but I called the number listed and talked with a person immediately and received my code right away! Very friendly, great place to stay. I would highly recommend

Seemed a bit rough the area around the premise

This was such a cute and unique stay. Very thoughtfully designed with old elements from the building and modern upgrades. Short walk to downtown restaurants. Several off street parking spaces. Way more space than a regular hotel room.
We had a problem checking in since we booked on Expedia, we didn't get the door access code emailed to us, it went to an Expedia email address by mistake. It took a few minutes to get through to someone and work through the problem, but whoever we spoke to was incredibly nice and patient, so props to them.

Loved staying at The Washington! One of my favorite stays to date. Very clean, spacious, beautifully decorated. Beds were very comfortable. Would definitely stay here again, and recommend to others!

Our suite was huge!

Beautiful renovated guest house! Walkable and tastefully decorated. My only addition would be to have a water filter (there was none) and you can hear neighboring units so bring ear plugs if that bothers you.

Everything was excellent aside from the noise. It sounded like people were running on treadmills in the room above us until 2am every night. The walls of the old house are paper thin so you can hear everything. Room is beautiful but I think it would benefit greatly from having a king size bed versus the queen that’s in there now

Beautiful property!!

It was great. Got it last minute for a great price. Place is within walking distance of eating, drinking, ferries, etc. The only time we heard a noise was the stairwell and walking above, similar to apartment life. Private kitchen with everything you need. Nicely decorated and comfortable.

I was really excited about this 2 bedroom place, well located to stay with my husband and 2 kids, but it was a rough 2 nights. We were in units C/D, the ones with the wood paneling and fireplace.
In the first bedroom, the door to the outside has a window with a very light white curtain, meaning the room does not get dark, a problem at night with kids and for us in the morning.
Above that door is a VERY VERY bright red EXIT sign, which lights up your room keeping it even brighter.
The bed is metal and very creaky every time you turn.
The bathroom is a great size, but not a single inch of counter space or a table or a shelf…we had to move a small side table from the other bedroom to put our toiletries.
The toilet paper holder is falling off the wall and the roll keeps falling.
Also, there were all the cleaning supplies just out on the hallway, not in a closet somewhere…not great with a 2yo that gets into everything.
The house is nice from the outside, but definitely very old and creaks every time you walk, and the walls/ceilings are made of paper. We could hear the loud tv from the below neighbors and the creaking of walking above us.
The porch is nice but could definitely use a good wash, just felt so dirty with bugs and webs.
The pictures of the other units look much more modern and updated…
The kitchen was nice and updated, the other bathroom had a normal counter. Other bedroom was ok with a remote controlled AC unit.
I expected more of a hotel feel than a home…

The good:
Aesthetics. It's an awesome building that's been really beautifully restored.
Location. Downtown Sandusky and the waterfront are a short walk away. Stores like Target are a ten minute drive at most. Cedar Point is even closer.
Amenities. Dishwasher, fridge, oven, washer/dryer. The shower's water pressure was better than any other hotel I've stayed at this year.
The bad:
None of these are so bad as to subtract a star, just minor annoyances.
As other reviews have noted, the noise isolation is pretty poor, so you're going to hear other people around you.
Toiletries were mostly run down when we arrived, so we had to purchase toilet paper and soap.
There was an odd, high-pitched whine coming from one wall for the entirety of our trip. I assume it was a water heater or air conditioner or something, but it wasn't a fun sound.

I booked the property for my daughter and her friend to stay there while they were in town for a convention. They really enjoyed it! They said the would definitely stay there again!

The place was very nice. More than enough space for 2 people. Clean and overall great minus a couple of things. The coffee machine was dirty from previous guest, coffee mugs were also dirty from previous guest, almost all shower amenities were empty as well as soap in the bathroom was watered down. There were 2 other major downfalls. It was 100% not soundproof. You could hear the people above walking/talking as well as there was only a paper thin wall dividing our room to the guests next door. You could hear every bit of their conversation as well as the TV that was on. There also was no divide between the kitchen and bedroom area to help cut some of the light from the exit sign that illuminated in the kitchen. It looked as though a pocket door used to be there but is no longer used. There was also a big beautiful window in the kitchen which was amazing but not in the morning when the sun would shine in. These aren’t “deal breakers” per se, but that is why I can’t give this property all 5’s. Overall it is extremely nice, easy to get in and out of as well as it is conveniently located in town!

Recently stayed at The Washington in Sandusky, and I must say, it was an absolutely wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the owner takes great pride in maintaining the historic house. The property was spotless and beautifully decorated, making for a very welcoming and comfortable atmosphere.
The amenities provided were top-notch and catered to every possible need. The property had a beautiful kitchen with great appliances, two-large washrooms with a washer, dryer and detergent, and a gorgeous deck.
The check-in and check-out process was smooth and efficient. Instructions on the unit and parking were very clear and provided the day of our arrival.
Overall our stay at The Washington was nothing short of perfect. I highly recommend this property over any chain hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable, well-maintained, and amenity-rich place to stay. We will definitely be returning on our next trip!

We enjoyed the location, very walkable to downtown and many restaurants very nice larger than I expected

Unit and location were great! We came up for a weekend to go to cedar point and it was a great spot and very quaint. Only complaint: the website, app and hotel state that you’ll get your access code 24 hours beforehand. We had left for the trip day of and still didn’t receive a code. After several attempts at trying to reach the hotel, finally got someone who then told me that they don’t send that out until 1PM the day of. This is and was fine, however, the posting and details should be updated to reflect that.

I loved the remodeled space. There was plenty of space for the entire family. Little thoughtful extras were put throughout the house that made our stay very welcoming. Thank you!

Difficulty checking in. The property
Never sent us an email with instructions. Apartment was in basement which I guess was fine. Would have been nice to be on an upper floor. They said lower level which I did not interpret as basement. Nice bed and kitchen and bathroom were lovely. Needed a couch in living room. The little thing that was in there was very uncomfortable. Amenities in shower were nice. Could have used more coffee as we’re staying two nights.
4.0 / 5.0
Our room was tastefully renovated. However, we were in a room at basement level and the washer and dryer were next door. The soundproofing is not great. When the folks across the hall came in at 3:00 a.m. we could clearly hear them walking down the hallway and talking for the next hour. In the bathroom, we could hear talking from the room next door. Walking in the room above us was also clearly heard. A few additional amenities would have made it much nicer, for example, boxes of kleenex, comfortable seating from which to watch the TV (there was only one small, uncomfortable loveseat and a table with two hard chairs from which to watch), and the bed pillows were lumpy, cheap, and awful. It would also have been nice to have some information in the room regarding restaurants and shopping and a map of downtown. There was an outdated Sandusky publication from years prior (I think pre-covid) which was not helpful and did not include a map of the downtown area.

Such a lovely stay! The Washington was chic, yet cozy and comfortable, and immaculate. Wish we could’ve stayed longer and definitely will return!

It’s super confusing to come to a rental place and not have a single employee on the property. There was no check in process, I just got a code in an email. Felt very odd. Other than that….the suite is the best value for money room I’ve ever been in. Gorgeous room, books to read, full kitchen. Clean and spaciacious with a private entrance. Very cool find.

It's an old house, so you could hear the folks upstairs moving around. They'd clearly had a good time that evening and were a little boisterous into the wee hours.

Very clean and beautiful property. Awesome that it is dog friendly. It is just a short walk to the pier, restaurants, and shops.

Never had to interact with anyone. Check-in was smooth. Had to call the phone number provided just to get the wifi details. Will definitely come back and recommend the place to others.

We loved our room. It was perfect for the 2 of us and for our stay. We walked downtown to eat. If I had any negative at all it would be the noise of people walking or kids running on floor above you. We were in Unit E. But this is something you have to consider when staying in an old house. I was fine with the noise. It reminded me of when my boys were little. But some might find that annoying. I would stay here again and next time might try for a unit on the upper floors.

Lovely 1890 boutique hotel right in the heart of town, near a lot of really nice restaurants. I stayed off season, but cannot wait to return when it's warmer so i can enjoy the wraparound porch!

The management service for the property does a great job in servicing requests. This large house property has multiple entrances for different parties to stay independently of each other. Great location for local events. Less than 10 minutes to almost any venue.
