Old building full of character, we were upgraded to a suit amazing room, breakfast good ,buffet style, on site indian restaurant (Mumbai) as good as it gets excellent.

It was stiflingly hot on the 3rd floor as the bathroom radiator was on all the time. Luckily there was a fan but did not feel safe to use it all night. There were silver fish in the bathroom and the kettle didn’t work. The bathroom tiles were grubby and the shower didn’t drain so I was standing in an 2 inch pool of water. All in all not somewhere I’d ever choose again .

Staff friendly and fairly attentive. Andy the bar man was great. Only negatives were due to any lack of identity/ uniform, it was sometimes hard to know who the staff actually were. Coffee/ Fruit juice at breakfast very watery!

So basically we came in after getting married to be told we was in a normal bedroom but we ordered the suite. It got sorted in the end. Also the music from the bar kept me up quite late so don’t open your windows.. the bed was comfortable but the pillow was like rocks! The breakfast was ok I guess beans were cold. Then when we went to check out they tried to charge us again! So please double check and keep receipts

Always wanted to stay in the grand hotel and I thought it was wonderful

Victorian hotel which is well maintained inside. Large rooms and bathroom with loads of hot water. Staff helpful. Limited unsecured car parking. No air conditioning. Noisy seagulls which may cause issues for light sleepers.

Having computer check, defeats the objective of personal and human service. Especially when they don’t work and there are no staff present and no way to contact anyone Bring back the human contact

turned up after being assured there was disabled access only to find out it was a fire exit that was blocked up with tables and other furniture, the member of staff on didnt even know it was there, had a fight to get refund as could not get in and had to stay at travelodge which was an extra £30 from what we had paid for this room, area around was not looking safe and hard to fathom where parking was.

The hotel has recently reopened after a refurb and is lovely .. we was attending a family funeral and asked if we could check in at 2.45 and was told no .. the hotel was empty with it just reopening so there was no reason that we couldn’t have our room 15 minutes early .. the rooms are decorated lovely we booked a double bed but it didn’t look like a double but was rushing to get to the funeral so didn’t ask .. the breakfast was lovely and the Mumbai restaurant is well worth a visit … I’d definatley stay again

I didnt stay as i left the first night due to the condition of the room, the hotel are happy to give me a refund but expedia cant get hold of the hotel (which we can after 2 mins every time) and therefore will not allow the refund. Its been a nightmare.

Quite simply the hotel is not finished. Extremely inexperienced staff of which there was one sole person on duty when we tried to get entrance to the hotel in the evening and had to ring the hotel number itself to make contact and to eventually get in.

It was conveniently located in the city centre and the room had everything I needed. It’s an alright hotel but there were some engineering works going on ao the lift was out of order and the room’s sound proofing was not good so you may hear some noises from others. But overall clean and comfy room so good for a short stay.

The parking situation is terrible. You have to be out of the car park before 07:00 or you will get a parking fine. The hotel has its own parking places, but only about 10 and these were full with the contractors vans, who are carrying out work on the hotel.
I eventually found a pay car park to use.

Amazing! Felt so looked after, Anne and Irene are friendly, considerate and an asset to Best Western. Comfortable stay, there’s still some renovations taking place but didn’t affect the quality of our stay. The staff made us feel very welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, plenty to do, lots of easy to reach places - fabulous

On arrival met by a friendly and helpful member of staff.
The room was a good size but unfortunately looked out into the hotels back yard which was a complete mess. The window didn’t seal well so it was quite noisy.
The Indian restaurant downstairs was excellent and highly recommended.
Again unfortunately we didn’t sleep well due to being right above the reception and noise from banging doors, loft and stairwell noise.

Room was located above a function room, sounded like the DJ was in my bathroom. Very noisy from 6pm until after midnight. When i complained i was told that i should have been told about the function but was also informed that customers are rarely every informed. Would bot stay here if you are looking for a decent night sleep.

Stayed in Hartlepool for a short break booked the Hotel as an attempt as an upgrade from the Travelodge. Staff were great, breakfast was great. The room looked ok from a distance, the bed you spent the night as if you were on the edge of a pit, trying not to fall in, didn't sleep very well, manager if you read this, change the bed. Bathroom was clean one of the two sinks didn't drain which we reported.
Lady in the breakfast room was great and the cooked breakfast was very nice. Been to Eastern Europe recently and been spoilt by there overall better hotels.

Lovely old hotel with excellent service. Great restaurant below and proper beer prices at the bar.
2.0 / 10.0
The staff were friendly and the food in the Indian restaurant based within the hotel was very good. However the rooms are tired with a musty smell. The radiators don’t seem to turn off and the windows do not open which means the room becomes too warm.

Really nice pleasant helpful staff. Would stay again

The location was great, altough a little noisy as it faced a bus stop used by late-night tevellers. The room was spacious, as was the bathroom. Staff were very friendly and breakfast was excellent. The decor is a little tired and the roof was leaking above the stairs. However, this didn't spoil our stay.

The room was nothing like on the pictures room was clean and close to the shops

Desk not manned in the morning left key and parking money outstanding behind counter after dinging bell and waiting 10mins

Good location central in town but an old dated building that is looking quite tired. Bar was quite poor
6.0 / 10.0
Poor. Room lights not working. Pillows smell and hotel staff not polite when requests were made.
4.0 / 10.0
Impressive old building houses a hotel which has clearly not seen and money for refurbishment / decoration in some time.
The room, though seemingly clean, smelled badly of smoke (non-smoking room on non-smoking floor was claimed).
There was a leak in the dining room while we had breakfast and one of my colleague had said they had had a leak in their room also. Another had a sleepless night as their radiator was on full blast, and couldn't be turned down (with a window which wouldn't open either).
Breakfast itself was actually pretty good, and the bar was fine (flat 'coke' aside).
Generally clearly hasn't had money spent since about the seventies and even had a bizarre sign saying to take the lift due to maintenance on the stairs - which was kind of new to me.

Hotel very clean and tidy if a bit dated . Staff helpful , location very central , beds comfy and breakfast excellent.

Older building well looked after. Central location. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Awesome breakfast. And the mumbi Indian restaurant is very good and worth the wair when busy.

Hotel was lovely. All staff were helpful and couldn't do enough for us. The breakfast was cooked to order and there was plenty of choice. It was situated close to shops and bus stops so very easy to get about.
