About this apartment rental
Summary:
Alvarado Street is located on the East End of the quaint town of Dauphin Island, Alabama’s beautiful barrier island situated just off the renowned Gulf Coast. This newly renovated condominium offers the perfect lodging for families, fishermen, birders and snowbirds looking to unwind and enjoy miles of white sandy beaches, fresh Gulf Coast seafood and world-class deep sea fishing and diving.
The Space:
In 2019, Alvarado underwent a complete renovation where the condo was stripped down to its bones and redesigned with stylish finishes and décor that echoed the natural elements of the island. The condo is now adorned with shiplap in every room, a main staple in seaside design, and is decorated with coastal-inspired furniture, art and accents in the living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms. Each kitchen has stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and a fully stocked kitchen for guests looking to cook up their fresh catch of the day for dinner.
With 20’ vaulted ceilings, the nautical bedrooms offer guests with a spacious retreat to recharge at the end of a long day on the water. The master bedroom has a flat screen TV and a king sized bed with a roomy closet, and the bunk room has two sets of bunk beds that offer a cozy space to retire in for the night.
Although you will not have direct waterfront access, Alvarado offers vacationers partial views of Mobile Bay, and sits in the ideal location for people looking for convenient access to the East End.
Guest Access:
This unit is located on the top right of the condo building. It has an upper deck with a dedicated outdoor table and chairs, as well as a set of Adirondack chairs for lounging. The neighboring unit on the top level shares the upper deck but has its own set of patio furniture. Parking is available directly in front of the condos.
The Neighborhood:
The 164-acre Audubon Bird Sanctuary is less than a 10-minute walk (.3 miles) from the steps of Alvarado. The sanctuary is a well-known destination for birdwatchers in search of one of the hundreds of species that live in and migrate through the sanctuary year-round, such as herons and pelicans. Visitors can take a walking tour though the palmetto palms where they can experience the birds in the lush native flora and fauna of the island.
The Mobile Bay Ferry is located just around the corner from Alvarado, just a 2-mintue drive or a 7-minute walk (.4 miles). The ferry, which departs every hour and a half during the day, transports passengers to the historic Fort Morgan located in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Just past the ferry is a popular boat launch on the island, where anglers launch their boats sunrise to sundown. Boat trailer parking for the boat launch can be tricky, especially during summer months, so Alvarado’s close proximity to the launch makes it an ideal location for anglers because of the extended boat parking offered to guests. Each unit can accommodate one boat trailer in addition to their parking.
The Dauphin Island Estuarium, an aquarium that is home to more than 100 different species of native Alabama marine life, and the historic Fort Gaines, where you can find guided tours of the 1821 fort that protected Mobile Bay during the Civil War, are both located within one mile of the property as well. There are three public beaches on Dauphin Island — the East End Public Beach, Bienville Beach and the West End Public Beach. The closest beach access to Alvarado is the East End Beach, which a little more than a mile away from Alvarado past Fort Gaines (a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk).
With the almost dozen restaurants and snack bars on the island, there’s no shortage of local fare and fresh seafood. Almost every menu on the island serves up the freshest seafood in the South, including freshly caught snapper, grouper, oysters and crab.
Even though the island is small (it’s only 14 miles long and less than 2 miles wide or less, in some areas), it offers an endless amount of activities for vacationers, including an 18-hole golf course and endless water activities. Boat, jet ski, stand-up-paddleboard and kayak rentals are available, as well as sunset cruises and beach access to most of the 17 miles of powder, white sand beaches that wrap around the island. These offerings, in addition to deep-sea fishing and diving, make this Gulf Coast sanctuary one of the top destinations for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Gulf.
We hope you enjoy your stay at Alvarado and enjoy exploring the beautiful Alabama Gulf Coast during your visit!
Getting Around:
Because of the ideal location of the property on the East End, guests can take a quick drive or easily bike or walk to nearby attractions and restaurants. Although there is no public transportation, there are miles of walking and biking trails around the island that makes getting around a breeze.
Other Things to Note:
The closest public beach access is about a mile away. Pets: No cats allowed! Dogs are allowed with a $75 fee per dog. There is a maximum of two dogs no larger than 75 pounds each. Dogs who are categorized as "dangerous" or "aggressive" according the ASPCA are not allowed. Please let us know if you're bringing your furry friend so we can add the appropriate pet fee, as the Airbnb website does not have a spot for us to add the fee. The fee will be added to the cost of your nightly charge. Guests must keep dogs on a leash when outdoors, and clean up after their pets. Guests who bring a dog without notification could face penalty.
Noise: This is a top-level condo, which is one of four units in the two-story condo building. There is a possibility of noise from neighboring guests below you and next door to you as well.

This place was cute. Very adequate for our stay. It was roomy. Check out was easy with posted procedures. Shower was hot, loved that! Spotty wifi was our only issue. We had a great stay.

It was a nice clean condo. The only thing was no kind of cleaner for the kitchen and very little dish soap.

We really loved your place. The unit was very clean and comfortable. The amenities were very convenient to have for our stay, including the washer/dryer and everything included in the kitchen. The only thing missing that would have been helpful was soap or bath wash for the shower. It would definitely be a place we'd stay again the next time we go to Dauphin Island.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with the dogs. The place is nice and was well decorated and comfortable. We would have appreciated more toilet paper, hand soap, and dish soap, but other than that we were well pleased.

Lovely, was a great bday present for my other half. Very quiet.
A couple of things: the shower liner could do with being cleaned as the drain is clogged (this has been mentioned in other reviews), one of the lamps in the living room doesn’t work. There are a couple of plug ins that could be swapped out for new ones.
Also seasonally the area was very quiet, not many things open. So be aware, the next supermarket is 22 mins drive.
None of this made our stay bad however and we enjoyed it. Thanks so much!

My mother, aunt, and I stayed in condo 6B while my son and niece were on an overnight field trip to the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. The condo was immaculate! Extremely cute and stylish. Very very clean. It was SO peaceful. We had great neighbors that even helped my mother carry her luggage up. The location was wonderful. I would 100% recommend this rental to anyone and everyone!

Me and my husband rented this property for the weekend away from our life. Perfect rental. Cleanliness was spot on. Location was great. Would definitely rent this property again.

Nice place. Needs more attention to finer details such as soap for shower, Kleenex, towels available upon arrival.

When we walked in and the teenagers were impressed by the “vibes” I knew it was going to be a great stay. Beds were comfortable and clean. We were able to bring our pup too which was an great added bonus. I would stay here again.

We had a perfect weekend away at Dauphin Island and this house was exactly what we needed. It was clean, the people around us were super friendly, no issues whatsoever with getting in/accessing the property. The two bedrooms were perfect for our family of 4 kids and 2 adults. We loved it and hope to come back!

A really nice place to stay in a really nice town! Friendly people everywhere. My granddaughter wanted to relax after a hard semester, so that is just what we did! Would do it again! Hint- only one store on the little island, so if you need a lot, get it on the way down!

Planned a fishing trip with some friends and this location was perfect. 1 block away from the boat ramp. Perfect location to get away from things. Quiet neighborhood. Pictures do not do this place justice. Very clean. Plenty of room to relax inside or out on the deck.

This place was nice and would stay again if I wasn't able to stay on the beach. We were never able to use the cable tv, but weren't there much at the condo anyway. :) I liked having the washer and dryer so we could wash our clothes before we left to go back home.

Older property with a recent renovation, yet still retains some of the original charm.
Location is close to off property activities where you’ll spend most of your time.

We really enjoyed our stay at this condo. Many upgrades made it modern and very nice. We loved the kitchen and nice cookware. The bed was super comfortable but we had to use pillows from the spare bedroom. Living area and TV were great. Streaming worked well for us. Our only problems were that the bedroom carpet was curled and couldn't be fixed which was a tripping hazard. The washer had issues and needs to be repaired or replaced. I contacted both Karin and Shane and neither bothered to respond. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely return here next year. We highly recommend it to others.

Property was the perfect weekend hide away.

It was comfortable. Could another dish towel or two. The dish drain is rather occupied with cleaning supplies and only one hand to peel in the bathroom is not enough. Otherwise it was good. Except for the rug that’s curled up in front of the bedroom door. Makes it hard to open and close.

We needed a place to stay while visiting our child at south Alabama university. This was a convenient location for a short drive to Mobile that also allowed for some beach and nature time as well. Clean, quiet and lovely home. Would stay again next visit

We found this little gem for a quick 2 nights to visit with some friends. Everything was clean and just as we expected.

We enjoyed our quick trip to view migrating birds and get pictures of local and migrating flora and fauna. However, after a long day of hiking/exploring we looked forward to the evenings of winding down and watching our favorite shows. We were not able to stream anything on the tv due to terrible internet/router issues. The stay would have been great otherwise.

The place was just about perfect. Everything we needed (coffee maker, TV, washer/dryer, etc.) and a comfortable king size bed. The wifi could be a little spotty but who cares? It's a 5 minute drive to the beach. Had a great time. We would definitely stay there again if we make back.

Nice supply of cooking stuff. Nice supply of towels. Nice new appliances Quiet area.
Master BR door cant swing over rug. Impossible not ro damage the rug. Cabinet doors bad squeeky. TV kept disconnecting from wifi. Bar stool seats are smaller than i was comfortable with. Too tall for adults. Need a dresser or 2 in the bunkbed room.
