I recently had the pleasure of staying at Velzyland Cottage on Kamehameha Highway, Haleiwa, for almost a month with my family. We were five in total—three adults, one teenager, and an eleven-year-old—and this charming 1940s summer cottage accommodated us beautifully without ever feeling cramped. The beds were comfortable, and the cottage was stocked with plenty of fresh, pure-white bedding, bath, and beach towels. It truly felt like a home away from home.
The kitchen was thoughtfully prepared, complete with basic essentials like paper towels, salt, pepper, garlic, and olive oil, which lasted us through the first few days before we needed to visit the local market. The host, Heather, was incredibly considerate, providing brand-new dish soap, sponges, kitchen towels, and laundry detergent pods. The washer and dryer were a lifesaver, allowing us to pack light for our stay.
What made our stay even more memorable was Heather and her husband’s kindness and hospitality. They not only helped us feel welcome, but they also offered invaluable advice about the area as we prepared to move our daughter to a local university. Heather went above and beyond, giving me time to share my feelings during this bittersweet transition, and I deeply appreciated her compassion.
The location of the cottage is perfect—just a short drive to Turtle Bay, Kahuku, North Shore Food Trucks, Sharks Cove, and Sunset Beach. The laid-back atmosphere of the area was exactly

We enjoyed our bungalow on the North Shore. It was comfortable clean and enjoyable. There is s bit of traffic from the road you hear at all times. Other than that... we enjoyed it very much. Air conditions was a plus.

I love this location! We stayed here before, years ago. The beaches are a hop, skip and a jump.

Our experience was ok but not what we were hoping for. The beach was close by and that was nice but the waves were too strong for young kids.
The house wasn’t stocked as well as we had had in past home rentals so we were judging off that. For example, no oils or spices for cooking. Not even salt and pepper or sugar. Everything smelled of mildew. It was just hard having to sleep in a bed that smelled and after shower towels that smelled.
There were lizards in the house at several different times which didn’t really bother us but might someone else.
I had to buy some laundry detergent to do a load of laundry (outside) and I actually left a few pods for future use for someone. I bought a dish sponge because it smelled awful too.
The traffic was extremely loud and bright at night. Not the best for kids trying to sleep. Even with white noise it was loud. The floors are very creaky as well. Again, not the best for sleeping kids.
No vents in the kitchen or bathroom which prob aids the mildew situation and one of the beds in the room had mold all over the bed skirt. Shower looked like black mold in the grout too.
It wasn’t a terrible stay but we did want to check out early. Again, take this all from someone with two kids under 4 so that played a big part in our discomfort. We spent 4 days here and headed to Aulani. We wanted to experience both the country and a resort stay and I think we achieved that!

House was updated recently and clean. Directly across the street from a sweet surf spot and mostly secluded beach. Excellent!

This accommodation was perfect for our family! It was light, airy, styled beautifully, spacious, private and comfortable. We enjoyed being able to walk or ride bikes to the beach, Ted's Bakery & Pipeline. We enjoyed the deck for breakfast and evening meals. The kitchen, laundry and bathroom were well set up. The North Shore area was lovely - nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The traffic on the highway outside our cottage was busy during the day... but quiet at night. Great to have car parking available and we appreciated the fenced yard. Totally recommend this accommodation for families and groups looking for an affordable holiday in Hawaii!

We fully enjoyed our stay at this house across the street from one of the most beautiful beaches on Oahu!!The place was exactly as described, clean, convenient, quiet and in a great location. It was just me and a good friend staying there for a week, but the place is perfect for families too. We bumped into the owner on the last day and he’s probably one of the nicest people I’ve ever met! It is located right on Kam highway, so there is a little bit of road noise , but it didn’t phase us!!! Highly recommend this place!!
Oh yeah, it’s got the BEST outdoor shower I’ve ever stood under!!🤙🤙🤙

This bungalow was easy to find and perfectly located across the road from the beach. Beds really comfortable and enjoyed the board games. A little noisy from being close to the highway but this did not bother us. Thankyou.

We enjoyed the cottage. It was a great place to explore the north shore beaches from. Away from the crowd but close to everything.

Everything we needed was there! We contacted Heather once about something we needed and it was there that day. There is a window unit in the living room that helps cool the whole house. They have towels and beach mats there to use. We got lucky and someone had also left a small ice chest. It was great for traveling on the road and to the beach.
Beware of Ted's Bakery near by!! lol, we all gained a few extra pounds eating there! It is beyond awesome! Hope we get to go back someday!
