Run down hotel. Damp towels, stains everywhere. Bed was comfortable though. Probably mattress too soft for most. Reception was lackluster.

It was a bed. The room smelled, the bathroom was dirty. I was woken up around 12:30 am with screaming in the hallway. Almost called 911.

The rooms were unique *in a good way. The neighbors were... also unique *in a not so good way. For a "non-smoking hotel" they don't do their best to enforce that. The walls are thin, the vents send whatever the neighbors smoke easily to your room, and the maintenence is overall poor. I feel bad for the one and only handy man they have.

The entrance has a bad smell and the rooms are very dirty and it smells a lot like Sigarro. I went to ask them to clean my room and the person at the reception told me that they did not have people to clean the place, very bad place and very very dirty.

Run down old hotel trying to renovate. Seedy parking area with junk cars around. Homeless living in car in back lot. No wash cloths, had to request face towels. No ice buckets or cups in room. Coffee has to be requested from front desk. No sugar. Room damp and moldy. Hallway carpet filthy.

The "presidential" room I was given isn't really the luxury room that I expected. To be honest, one of the worse conditions of a hotel room I've been in. We wanted to try something different than the major hotel chains and we fully regretted this.
Where should I start, firstly, when we arrived in the room, the condition of the room wasn't that clean, looks more like a motel condition room. Some lights were not working, carpet was filthy, black dark colored carpets, doesn't look like they have done any shampooing of the the carpets before, bathroom door was creaking loudly, kept waking up the kids, there was no microwave, the list goes on.
Next, the crowd it attracts in the hotel, makes me a little wary of going out, lots of cigarette butts on the outside of the hotel, people smoking immediately outside the door (isn't there like a law to not smoke a certain distance from the building?), people playing fireworks at night, people going in from the unlocked side door, without key access.
Next, price wise, this would be the last time I will patronize a hotel that is independent and not from a major hotel chains, there isn't any amenities, bath towels only had 2 when we have clearly booked for 5 people, the blanket had stains.
Just typing this review eeks me out, the first and last for these kind of hotels.

There was no trash cans in room. No microwave. I had the presidential suite. No extra sheets. Sheets were stained. Staff was rude knocking on door way before check out time to ask if we are checking out. Just was a very uncomfortable stay.

Without exaggeration, this is by far the worst place I have ever stayed. The room was dirty…The mystery red stain on the nightstand-let’s just call it dried nail polish. Parts of the rug missing in the hallways-the other parts seriously stained, faded, and torn. So much noise until well after 4am. Slamming doors and yelling in halls. Traveling with teen girls so I asked for extra towels… Only one 1 extra towel in the whole hotel. Parking was not well lit.. except for the area that about 30 people partying and playing corn hole. No conditioner or extra shampoo. No microwave in the room. TV only had a few stations. Remote did not work- had to change channel on the back of TV. Key cards reset during day, so was locked out when we returned in the afternoon. Bright side…The AC worked well but was loud. Bathtub/shower did not turn off.. so water ran all night. Toilet needed 2 or more flushes with normal use.

I paid via Expedia, but the hotel staff didn’t see the payment when it was time to check in so they charge me again. I was eventually refunded from Expedia but def an inconvenience. The TV remote also didn’t work. There was no garbage can in the bathroom. And the shower continued to run, even after I turned the water off. This hotel needs major improvements. One to two star hotel at best.

Disgusting

To start off, the property appeared not so safe. There were many people just standing around outside smoking and being loud. There were people in the corridors leading to the rooms. We heard people yelling at 3am. Not sure if they were in their rooms or in the corridors but it wasnt pleasant. The room was ok but many things were broken or dirty. We had only 2 towels, and when we asked for more, we were told come back tomorrow morning as the cleaning staff is gone. The beds were clean and comfortable and the toiletries were there. I dont think we would go back.

Cars in the parking lot playing loud music until 4 am. Hotel never addressed.

No hand towels, no soap, no washcloths, poor lighting, shower floor is slippery and needs a mat. Not the cleanest place.

There is only one entrance to the hotel. No elevators. The room only had two towels but no hand towels. The ceiling in the bathroom dripped after showers.

The Amwell Hotel faced some unforeseen issues, which I believed should have been communicated to me prior to my payment. However, the manager resolved the matter effectively. I would consider returning to the The Amwell. Nevertheless, they need to improve on providing an adequate number of washcloths, as they offered additional towels as a substitute.

I had a great stay at Somerset Lofts. I had some work at Rutgers University and chose this property. The location is very nice and also the room was very clean. Staff was also extremely nice and helpful. I highly recommend this property for your stay in the area.
