The hotel was clean & in a great location, right on zocalo, loads of restaurants, felt safe, mercado 20 noviembre is an easy walk. The taxi rank is an easy walk but be aware that as you are right on zocalo you need to carry, wheel your luggage to the hotel - maybe 2 minute walk from closest drop off, over cobblestones. Be sure to ask to be dropped off at the statues. The staff on checking out took our luggage to the pick up point for us. Wifi was good. The hotel itself is quiet but the noise from zocalo is quite loud at times, music every day from early (6am, although we would start to really hear it from 745) until 930pm, didn’t bother us as we enjoyed the atmosphere.

Stayed in the Junior suite that accommodated 5 people. Location was amazing, clear view of the church and plaza. Ideal for those that wanted to experience the environment without having to leave the room. Room has two full beds and a twin bed that was near the entrance but somewhat away from the other two beds. AC doesn’t reach it directly, but they provide a fan. Overall I would love to stay here again.

Parking is far away, property needs remodeling. Beds and pillows are comfortable, staff is very friendly and helpful. Excellent location in the zocalo. That’s what you’re paying for.

Second time staying at this hotel. First time was great. Had a nice spacious room, clean and bright. Second time we got what seemed like the storage closet. It was dark and dingy. Bathroom was also dirty and window faced the hallway. Location is close to many restaurants and markets.

This was my second stay in the hotel and I chose to stay here again specifically because of its location on the Zocalo. It is in the heart of the action, liveliness, and culture that is Oaxaca. Most nights outside are a kind of party. That said, the hotel has done a great job of soundproofing to reduce the noise for its guests (there are also cheaper inside rooms whose windows open to the interior courtyard and are quieter).
The rooms are simple and clean and a good value. The staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant offers very good breakfasts at a fair price.
We spent half of our Oaxaca stay at this hotel and half at a much more expensive (luxury) hotel close to the Templo de Santo Domingo. We preferred Marques del Valle. My 11 year old son fell in love with Oaxaca largely because of his time at the hotel and in the Zocalo.
This hotel is great!

A Very Noisy Convent!
This hotel sells itself as a former convent; guests are staying in an historical spot when lodging here. Its buildings and grounds are immaculate and its staff very attentive. That said, during our stay the atmosphere was anything but quiet and calm. The hotel seems to be trying to do too much for too many different types of groups and functions. It wants to cater to wealthy guests (its prices are excessive for Oaxaca) and provide peace and quiet while also trying to cater to conventions and their far less quiet needs and activities.
During our stay in mid-March, the hotel was hosting a convention. The tiny lobby was full of convention-goers and the old chapel was the site of many of the conference sessions. Anyone nearby—at the pool, in the lobby, in the restaurant—had to listen to hours of amplified voices discussing business. The hotel used one of the courtyards (directly outside of our room) for an evening reception with live music and lots of drinking. It was, in short, a loud party that went on until very late at night. The conventioneers then were in a tent in another courtyard the next day for hours of more amplified droning. All of this meant that our stay—a splurge for a big birthday—was far from relaxing.
There is also the big issue of value. The hotel is extremely expensive in terms of lodging and food for a city like Oaxaca. It’s simply not worth the price.

Location is excellent if you want to be in the center of things which we loved but on the last day of our stay there was a woman’s March that turned violent, they broke a large window in the hotel lobby and that was scary but the hotel was great

Older hotel with modern updates located right on Zocalo Plaza with music performances and restaurants. Staff was polite, professional and responsive. The breakfast restaurant on site is excellent. If you enjoy access to restaurants and plaza celebrations at your door step, this is a great place. If you prefer boutique, quiet and romantic, there are other options.

This is an excellent location for everything in the Zoco. If you are sensitive to noise, make sure to ask for a room that is not directly overlooking the Square.

Old school hotel across the street from Oaxaca's lovely busy zocolo. I've been visiting this grand old hotel for 40 years and it never disappoints.

The hotel is centrally located and only a few steps away from restaurants, shopping centers, entertainment and anything you need. With that comes a lot of noise activity from the events/entertainment (music, restaurants ext.). If you want a quite night you wont find that until early after the night life stops..
Aside from that the location is excellent.
As personal preference the beds where a bit too hard and the room we had could have used a bit of a paint walls looked old and a bit dirty.

Hotel is centrally located. You may have events and music in the evenings, it may get a bit loud. Rooms were dated but clean. Bathroom was updated and quite nice. Wifi worked well. It not a Hilton or a Marriott but it was OK. Location is was sold me.
