The most beautiful island with incredible staff but the food is sub standard and the resort is in need of some refurbishment.

Let’s start with the good. The reception and restaurant staff were friendly and helped us where necessary. The beach was naturally beautiful and there was plenty of space to relax. The room was nice, clean and spacious. Only staff grumble was the spa which we booked and then they never reserved a slot for us so we had to wait a while for it to be set up.
Now for the bad. Away from the main beach area that was a lot of plastic waste, and cleared foliage dumped in refuse bags, clearly by the hotel as due to the set up and geography they were the only ones with access. On our first morning we got out of the hotel boundaries (certainly not signposted with the intention for people to do this) and we walked around the island to the local village. People were friendly and smiley. We got to another beach area and what can only be described as a plastic grave yard awaited us. It was horrific. Not just single use plastic but nappies, tyres, old furniture, fishing nets. So what has this to do with the hotel? Other than being part of the local community and seemingly doing nothing to help, they ran a polluting generator 24/7 where the village had solar panels. But the worst thing by far as the clear signage not allowing us to fill up water bottles. We were even stopped from getting water at lunch time as we had gone ala crate and not for the buffet. The ONLY was to drink water was to buy small
Plastic bottles every time. HOW IS THIS ALLOWED?! The whole thing was very upsetting

Our stay was very relaxing. We enjoyed swimming in the sea and reading as we lounged on loungers. We were kept well-fed, the food was plentiful and delicious. The room and all areas of the resort were spotless.

Why merely disembark day-trip speed boats for a rushed photo-shoot of Pulau Mantanani Besar’s marine protected coral reef island? Instead, indulge at your own pace on white sandy beachfront chalets like pampered VIP guests. Savior Mantanani’s teal blue aquatic splendor by basking in comfort while feasting on four tasty meals a day.
That was exactly what my partner and I embarked on for six whole days. We cherished every moment of our time here. The only regret was not staying longer. We departed with watery eye melancholy as our speedboat sailed off. Looking backwards, the collective smiles of the attentive food & beverage team lingered in our hearts as our paradise island shrunk into the distance.
Our final verdict: Mantanani Island was even more spectacular in person than the photogenic postcard pictures. This thanks in part to the wonderful individuals immersed in Sutera’s cheerful hospitality culture. ‘Small paradise, big soul’ sums up our experience here.

Cancelled last minute due to weather condition and forcefully shoved us to another hotel (Sutera Magellan) under their group. Literally waited nearly five hours trying to reach management while the Magellan front desk was extremely unhelpful and just put up a "not our fault" attitude and Mantanani wouldn't answer a single call. Only positive experience was that the hotels.com representative was willing to help us book another hotel and refund us the difference while I am still waiting for this hotel group to process my refund for the cancellation on transportation (which they say will take 2 working weeks, while they happily took my cash and booked the transportation within 30 minutes) and the manager's email is unreachable for some reason.

staff were an absolute delight, from the reception to the boat men, we felt welcomed and taken cared of. The rooms however were a little old but the view, the food and hospitality made up for it.
