If peace and serenity are what you are looking for, Barefoot Cay Resort is ideal. As a boutique resort with a limited number of accommodations you can easily avoid the crowds. Although there were a few other guests, my wife and I felt like we had the place to ourselves. We enjoyed sitting on the beach and snorkeling off the pavilion with no distractions. Relaxing on the pavilion, feeling the breeze and listening to the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks after snorkeling was so relaxing. All of the staff were friendly and accommodating.

The property was very clean and spacious. The staff was extremely helpful and inviting. The only qualm I might say is the food was not that great, and given the fact that there were limited options around the area, I expected better. There is no shortage of mosquitos, but the hotel kindly provided natural repellant spray. Overall, the property was lovely and a great introduction to Roatán.

This place is a little bit secluded but it's own oasis. They only have 1 restaurant so if you want something other than that you will have to catch a cab. They had a shuttle and it cost more than a cab but it's a modern, clean, new van and you're not sharing it.
I agree with most of the comments. It's a beautiful resort. Our room was a studio with modern furniture, clean and a beautiful layout. Large private porch that over looked the lagoon. A full size kitchen with modern appliances.
They only have a very small beach area that was secluded but it felt 'weird', if something happened in the water absolutely no one was around. We sat out for a bit but didn't go in. It's a long walk to get to it.
My only complaint - more observation - is the restaurant and servers are VERY slow. We ate there 3 times on our overnight stay:
Late lunch, drinks, dessert and breakfast.
ALL the staff is amazing!
But I couldn't figure out what was going on with the service. I don't know if they wanted you to wave or call out to the servers when you needed something or what.
You were greeted with amazing friendliness, kindness and attention. The next thing we know: our water wasn't refilled, I wasn't asked if I wanted another drink until I not only drank mine but half of my wives. They had a few folks so we figured that was the reason. But we returned to sit by the pool for drinks. We were there for 10 minutes - the only folks there. My wife had to go up and ask if we can order a drink and again.

Beautiful secluded property. Perfect for folks really interested in diving. Less so if looking for a vacation oasis. No beach or spa. Mainly pool or palapa for relaxing. That said, restaurant was delicious and we booked an array of offsite activities that were fun.

There were 8 of us there for my friend's 50th birthday. It could not have been more perfect. The Silversides Restaurant prepared the most amazing meal! The staff was so friendly and helpful and our accommodations were spacious, immaculate, very comfortable and had great views!

Great place for divers, and the dive company with valet service is great, but snorkelers beware, there is NO house reef and no swimming from your beautiful villas. The ocean is less than 2 ft deep for forever, filled with grass, bits of fire coral and the occasional scorpionfish (reef shoes people!!). You can swim off of the palapa, but there is nothing really to "see". you have to get off the resort to get any reef. The week we were there, there was a new kitchen company. The existing staff was great trying to feed people, but for the first half of the stay, there was no alcohol. I mean, not even rum. And you would have to go down at least two menu choices before they would have something they could cook. Communication between the new company and the existing general management was pitiful.

I was concerned that our cottage did not have air-conditioning when I booked the Grand Villa. I was assured that the air conditioning was sufficient and that the upstairs bedroom would be comfortable at night because of the cool breeze. Nothing could be further from the truth. The whole house (which was laid out beautifully) stayed hot and humid all day and all night. The master bedroom had a wall unit but it didn’t decrease the temperature or humidity. Our bedding and especially the pillows smelled like mildew and the beddding was always damp when it was time for bed. The upstairs bedroom was stifling hot and our kids ended up staying with friends at another resort because they weren’t able to sleep in the sweltering heat. We couldn’t really use the house like we planned because it was so hot and humid all the time. All our food would get soggy unless we kept it in the refrigerator. The television would not keep a signal and the power and WiFi kept going out. We couldn’t use our beach because the sand fleas were so bad and we even avoided sitting outside at the pool because of the “no-see-ums” ate us up. Given the chance, I would stay in West Bay at the more populated resorts. Most of the sights and restaurants are on that side of the island and we wouldn’t have to pay $50 in cab fare for the round trip from Barefoot to West Bay/West End. All in all, I thought the service was top notch but the accommodations came up short.

This is an ok 3 star resort if you are there to the onsite diving. It’s not a 4 star luxury resort as advertised though and the photos are very misleading. The place as a whole needs some TLC, the beach is non-existant (although the ocean view is good), it is secluded and the onsite restaurant is below average and overpriced by around 60% (eg a single burger on stale bun, no sides $18. Steak $40, etc). There are far better options around. Grand Caribbean Resort is one. I would also note as an observation that the reviews tend to be a 10 for on-island local reviews and a 5-6 for those guests who are not from the island. Something can’t be right there.

Well-maintained and comfortable rooms (we stayed in a villa on the cay) which can be used with no air-con during the day, due to the breeze. The on-site dive operation is excellent, offering three dives a day with single-dive options. The palapa, complete with hammocks, is brilliant. The food is generally good, although we had to order our dinners before 3 pm. There are several minuses: the kayaking equipment and wooden boardwalks around the island are badly maintained. The private island is sandwiched between two ugly and noisy ports; the resulting hubbub from the ports can be heard during the day and night. A lot of trash gets washed out, causing the beach (and coastline around the cay) to be regularly filled with floating rubbish. One day, we had a nasty oil slick polluting the beach.
