Hotel was undergoing a bad renovation. Elevators didn’t work. Carpet was dirty & smelled like old wine. It did have free parking, a decent location & laundry facilities. Guy at front desk was nice. Room was clean.

Hatchway Hotel - Rockland, ME
Hotel undergoing badly needed renovations. Elevator not working. (Three-story hotel.) No one on call in office after 4:00 pm.
Room 237: Too small. Furniture dusty. Only one chair (two if you count the toilet). No rack for the suitcase (used the top of the chest of drawers.) No breakfast available. (How did I overlook that when choosing a place to stay?)
Forget the pictures of the waterfront views. Our room featured the parking lot.
I’m not usually picky about hotels, but this was bad. Glad we stayed only one night.
Nice features: Staff was pleasant/helpful. Short walk to the Farnsworth and Lighthouse museums. The town has many nice restaurants, some within walking distance.

This hotel is HORRIBLE! There is not one thing I can say about this hotel that is even halfway decent. There is no front desk, just a bunch of plastic bins, and wires hanging down. The vending machine was EMPTY! The rugs were dirty. The balcony was useless, because of the out-hanging heating/cooling unit. Our room looked out at a huge pile of garbage that looked like old construction debris that was sitting for some time. The lobby was a joke, old crappy furniture and a small coffee area if you would call it that. Our curtains in our room didn’t fit the window and we couldn’t close them correctly to block out the light on the balcony that we couldn’t turn OFF! We talked to a local girl who worked in the hospitality industry and she asked us where we were staying…when we told her she just put her hand over her mouth. The owner should be ASHAMED to offer rooms for rent at the DESPICABLE place. DO NOT GO HERE!

The hotel is still being remodeled. Our room was clearly not finished. No coffee maker, no hair dryer, no iron and ironing board. Could not access a hair dryer or ironing board on the property at all. This caused an issue as we had to get to an appointment early in the morning and could not iron or blow dry my hair. Hot water took forever to heat up. The remodel job seemed messy all over, even when it was supposed to be 'finished'. The staff seemed grumpy. The coffee in the morning was a small k cup maker. Great location but the place needs more work to bring it up to standards.

Hotel has only been opened a few weeks. I booked my stay well over a month ago. The lady at the desk was friendly. However, the room we booked had no air and the TV service was not working nor was the elevator. I would suggest to avoid at all cost!!

Service was excellent until 5 when you needed to call to someone who left the building Facilities were a major disappointment No table and chair to use our computer. Beautiful view--when we opened the door/window-no screen
Hotel in transition and some parts of the operation has been neglected

Room was exceptional.
Smell in the elevator and in the route to our room.
No human service available after 5

Didn’t stay room was dirty and constructions was going on. No elevator stairs only and not even finished. This was not mentioned in the ad. No a single person at the hotel had to talk to a screen with someone working remote.

Lost power during latest storm. Heat, hot water and shower was great after camping at home for a few days. Construction contions and will be a nice improvement.

Had to walk through a door marked staff only which was like a storage / maids room to get to the hallway that led to our room. Also the tv didn’t have a remote nor would it work when we used the buttons. Check in was through a kiosk and the person helping had broken English. Could not ask about specifics about the hotel like pool hrs ect. Really not impressed

Building was under construction, no elevator, main stairs were blocked, had to go through worker's hallway filled with stuff, garbage in the entryway, etc.

We were unaware that the hotel was Under construction. Not a great value with the condition of the property. A lot of marijuana smell inside.the hallways. Room clean and neat. Manager very nice and helpful. Hopefully once construction is finished the hotel will be a better value.

Hallways had a very strong small of marijuana.

The room was very dirty. There was hair on the bed that wasn't ours. The toilet was broken, and it smelled like crap in the room. We didn't even stay the night and left. Do not recommend.

Property needs some serious updating. I checked in on line and when I got there, needed to check in again and it was very confusing. You could use a kiosk with a "remote" person that had a very hard accent to follow and was very loud so everyone in the waiting area could hear everything that was being asked. My room was clean but very cold and took a long time (many hours) to warm up. Don't think I would stay here again.

The room was very nice. There was never anybody at the front desk you had always have to wait 15 to 20 minutes breakfast was included. There was no practice three days the other days it was very limited. The entrance to our building was always dirty with leaves the floor needed swap, the manager, however, was friendly and apologized for the inconvenience of no breakfast, and that they were remodeling

Okay, first off the service was very good, there was even a very cool robot girl who checked people in. But we go to our wing to see our room, As soon as we walk in it smells like Maryjane and cigarettes, and it was very filthy, We walk up to our room and it is very cramped and many hallways twisting and turning. We are about to get the room and two people who that are clearly on drugs come and talk to us, we’ve heard this is a big problem (get it together). We finally walk into the room and the smell of cigarettes hits me like a train, it’s filthy and smells. There was a creepy earbud on the ground probably listening to us snore. The shower was basically only one temperature and the room looked nothing like on the reviews it was cramped and we thought we’d get a despise because it looked so old we thought there was absetos. There was 3 pillows on one bed like what’re you doing put 4 weirdos. Both of the pictures on the wall was crooked, and the bed was leaning, just clean er up.

The room smelled like an ash tray. The mattress pad had a fold in it. There was pubic hair in the tub. The mattress was very good otherwise. House keeping could do a better clean up and pull the bed pad tight.

Terrific location, clean room.
worn and dirty common areas. broken amenities clearly not to be fixed soon ( ice machine, vending )
unresponsive to emails.

We hadn't stayed here since it had new owners. I believe it has been refurbished although the room we had obviously was not part of that. There were dings and chips on the floors and paint and old ?cigarette burns on the edge of the tub, but it was very clean throughout. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.. Our room had a small balcony with table and chairs that looked toward the bay. and our bed was comfortable. There was a restaurant a few feet away with great food. I would have loved to stay longer. It was well worth the money.

#1 the room was expensive for how small and visibly old it was. #2 the whole place smells of bleach, #3 the water got stuck on hot and burnt my scalp and I couldn’t turn it down.

common areas, hallways carpets are stained and shabby. The air conditioning unit in the room many of the buttons were pushed in and difficult to turn the unit on and off or regulate.

The place was dirty and service was almost nonexistent.

I had 2 rooms. The standard double had a fridge freezer with mold. The toilet had a bad tank valve and constantly ran water. The ac/heater had a sticker that said it was controlled by t h e wall thermostat. The room did not have a wall thermostat.
The other room was a handicapped room. My mom was too afraid to use the shower due to it beeing too slippery. Bed was high for a handicapped person to get in. She had to use a chair to get on the bed.

We arrived and our reservation was not in their system. The hotel was nearly booked out and we had to accept a different type room. The looks good from the outside, but you can see that it needs renovating. The room was ok, but you could see the wear and tear. It is a none smoking hotel, but the guests don’t seem to care. One particular room next to the laundry area was enjoying their recreational weed a bit too much. The washing machine was only hooked up to cold water. It took me a little while to find the reason why the washer would not fill with water. Once I changed it cold everything was fine. There is a good bar & grill across the street.

Hotel was okay. Room was renovated in 2016 but not well maintained. Shower didn’t work properly and coffee maker not at all. Man at the front desk was a bit strange but the Girls Sidney was awesome - super friendly & helpful (thank you!)

Our room smells like a drug house. Tobacco ashes are all behind the couch. We tried to air out the room to no avail. Had we not been tired we would have tried to find another place. This place is a disaster.

Given a room that was not ready or clean. When we called about it we were told she was busy with customers. We walked all the way back with luggage to front desk. You have to put in a long code in to get into the building and then enter a code to get into your room. Sheets dirty and some towels so worn. Don’t expect breakfast either. We got there at 8 am. 3 bagels were left, some eggs and sausage with a limit of 2 per person. Not at all what they advertised. Thoughtless front desk

We booked (and paid) for our stay back in April 2023 and our stay was in early October 2023. Upon checking in, we were informed that they had no credit card on file and hadn't been paid. We proved that we had paid for our stay through Expedia, but they insisted on payment again! Manager stated he would credit us the second charge when he could locate the payment (which we later found out went to the prior owner of the hotel back in April 2023). Well, it has been a week, vacation is over, and not a peep from management of Trade Winds Inn.
Also - continental breakfast was a joke!
Worst hotel experience we have ever had, and we are both in our 70's! Stay away from this place!!

The room was underwhelming. The bathroom transition flooring was a piece of baseboard. This was heavily worn and falling apart. The room felt dated. The staff was not friendly, though they did help out while being vocal about their displeasure in doing so. Overall, below average, can’t recommend.

Our room, the halls and elevator strongly smelled of smoke, though I was told it was nonsmoking. Filthy, mold on pullout bed, took an hour for the shower to drain.

They did not have our reservation in their system. someone did not complete the reservation. They had our names but not the rooms reserved. athey found a couple of rooms for us. We went to dinner and they gave away my daughters room . Took her luggage out of the room. It took a couple of hours to get her another room. The manager had to come in. The hair dryer did not work in our room. There was no breakfast as the person who handeled that did not show. While waiting to check out 3 more people came in complaing about their rooms. We aske for a receipt and they had us for 3 rooms not 2 managers was suppose to call me but never did. So far no charges for the extra room has showed uo

The property is dated. The hallway smells very badly of cigarette smoke and the carpet is very dirty. The rooms were very clean but the carpet was dirty, smelled of cigarettes, and the mattresses very uncomfortable. The beds were very small- supposed to be a full and I would say half way between a twin and a full. The location, parking, and staff were great. The staff who clean the hotel are doing an exceptional job but the actual carpets and mattresses need to be replaced.
2.0
The only good thing about this property is the excellent location near the Strand and museums. But the room was very old and has obviously not been maintained. Instead of key cards you had to punch in a code to get into the hotel and room. Ours did not work and we encountered many other guests who said the same thing. The room looked like everything in it was decades old including the rug. There was no stopper in the bath tub and the water was warm not hot. The price was shockingly high considering the state of the room. The only positive was location and very nice staff who tried to help out where they could
