The sun laughs over Franconia, the world laughs over ... :-)
Gunzenhausen - the town that emerged from a Roman fort is the tourist center of the Franconian Lake District. Idyllic beer gardens, charming street cafés and attractive shopping opportunities line Gunzenhausen's town center. The half-timbered town center with its Margravial hunting lodge, Protestant parish church, Protestant hospital church, wind, stork and dyer's tower and remains of the medieval town wall are well worth seeing. There are remains of two Roman watchtowers in the Burgstallwald forest. Cultural highlights include the Archaeological Museum and the Fossil and Lithography Museum. There are plenty of leisure activities around the lakes. Swimming, sailing, surfing, kiting... or a leisurely boat trip, there is something for everyone. Cycling is "in" and healthy. Cycle paths around the lakes or from lake to lake lead through a varied, charming landscape, reveal the diverse evidence of the past and bring history to life. National cycle paths also open up the wider, interesting surroundings by connecting to the cycle path network of the Altmühltal Nature Park as far as the Danube, as well as to Nuremberg, Ansbach, Dinkelsbühl or Rothenburg.
