On over six acres south of the community of Wilson, Eagle’s Vantage is literally tucked into the terrain. Although a generous 6,575-square feet, the 4-bedroom-suite home sits lightly on the landscape, with its unassuming-from-the-outside contemporary forms nestled into a hillside. But walk in the front door and you’ll see that this minimalist home delivers maximum Teton views. “The whole intent was for the architecture to respond to the terrain—to not overpower the site,” says Jamie Farmer, a principal at Farmer Payne, the Jackson-based firm that was both architect and interior designer.

Eagle’s Vantage is the perfect Jackson Hole vacation home for families and groups of friends looking for a gracious, contemporary property that allows the jaw dropping beauty of Jackson Hole to take center stage. Its location in a small luxury neighborhood is private, yet the conveniences of Wilson—a coffee/bagel shop, a couple of restaurants, a much-loved general store that has been operating since 1954, a florist, a post office, and the Stagecoach Barare a 10-minute drive away. Teton Village and the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort are about 20 minutes away by car and downtown Jackson is about the same distance.

The main entryway opens to the home’s main level combined kitchen/dining/living area with white oak floors and ceiling—and a wall of windows and that frame the mountain range.

Adding to the experience is the lofted, elevated feeling in this space, which gives this home its name, Eagle’s Vantage. Settling into an armchair here or into a chair on the deck that seemingly hangs off the north side of the house, you do feel like you’re in an aerie, surveying all before and below you—the Tetons and, in the backyard, a pond, a hot tub, and a mature forest.

Within the public space, the kitchen is one any professional would love, there is an island with seating for five, a small table with seating for four, and a dining table with seating for 10, glass doors that slide open to a deck, a gas burning fireplace, and armchairs and a sectional that invite you to settle in with your morning coffee or evening glass of wine.

Amazingly, the lighting fixture above the dining table—clear, hand-blown Bomma pendants arranged in a cascade—is spectacular enough to tear your view away from the wall of windows and Tetons.

Opposite the wall of windows is a door to a south-facing outdoor terrace/kitchen. This area has a wood-burning fireplace and, for chilly evenings, heating elements suspended from the shade structure.

The primary suite itself is cantilevered out over the hillside the house is set into. From its king-size bed, floor-to-ceiling windows to the north and west give you the same airy perspective enjoyed in the public space and allow you to see the entire length of the Teton range. The primary wing includes a bedroom, a walk-in closet, WC, and a spa bathroom with a walk-in shower and also a freestanding deep soaking tub. Because the house is nestled into a hillside and adjacent to forest, the tub is able to sit in front of a floor to ceiling window without the worry of anyone seeing in.

Descend a floating stairway to the home’s lower level. This is dedicated to a second living room, an exercise room, and three guest suites plus an additional sleeping area. Each room has a king-size bed and a door to the outside, from which it is a short walk to the pond, a north-facing terrace, and the hot tub. One of the guest bedrooms and the additional sleeping space share a bathroom while the other two guest rooms each have their own bathroom.
