Location was superb
It felt a bit tired and run down. Poor shower pressure in the bathroom, old carpets in the hallway, limited range of snacks offered as part of the USD40 charge (which is more to cover cost of upscale gym membership).

Excellent location. Very comfortable and well maintained.
Small pool.

I did not have breakfast, but the food and service at the restaurant was excellent.
It may seem petty, but they used a biological washing powder on the bedclothes, and caused some skin irritation.

Location is good.
A part of the window view was blocked by a building. Cann’t enjoy the full view of sunset.

Our room, 412, had a perfect sunset view. The 2 queen beds were very comfortable and the pillows were nice also.
The fan in the bathroom was VERY loud and annoying.

We moved from the cheaper annexe rooms into a main hotel suite and it was well worth the extra money

Very good restaurant and the service was excellent. Had delicious breakfast and brunches. Charming lobby and lift and old photos lining the corridors. hotel staff very nice. Slightly blocked but nonetheless reasonable view of the ocean and sunset. Well located for shopping and beach. wonderful walk down to the sea front teeming with birds and seals and sea lions. Good
sized bedroom.
inner garden/pool area was a bit disappointing. Photos don’t reveal that there are high buildings between the hotel and the beach. Bathroom not entirely cleaned.

The lovation
The walk to the room was awful!! I had 2 suitcases and a toddler in the dark night.
The bathroom shower looks like the color of baby poop. Appeared to be a 2-3 star hotel. Nowhere near a 4 star hotel.

We loved dining at the 910! Our first room had a bed in it that needs to be replaced, #136. We moved the next day to room #133 thanks to the excellent help from Cassandra. Thank you!
The fireplace & coffee pot were not working in this room. As you leave the bathroom to go into the kitchenette there is a sharp object that catches on a foot as you leave the bathroom. It is very sharp & needs to be addressed. Overall we had a lovely stay. Your staff is amazing! Thank you so much!!!!

Staying in LA Jolla for a family wedding, I have never felt more "at home"! All the staff have gone out of their way to make sure we were happy and having a good time!
Not being informed about all the stairs we'd have to use.

Excellent location in very historic hotel. Walk to the beach and see tide pools, sea lions, and breathtaking sunsets. Great view of the ocean and pool from the suite we booked on the fifth floor. King bed and sleeper sofa were both comfortable. Lobby is charming and pool area is relaxing - just big enough to never feel too crowded.
Most outstanding is the service - five stars - from valet to front desk to housekeeping. Nine ten restaurant is maybe the best restaurant in La Jolla. We enjoyed it twice - once for breakfast and once for dinner. Don't hesitate to book this hotel with kids - they have beach toys, boogie boards, and umbrellas available at no extra cost - and La Jolla's famous children's pool is only blocks away for shallow ocean time (when the seals aren't there). Best of all, the Grande Colonial accomodated moving our reservations when we had to postpone the trip a month due to Covid. Not sure you can find a better hotel or more attentive staff in La Jolla. This hotel gets everything right without ever looking like its anything out of the ordinary. Ten of ten would recommend booking again.
Lobby, front desk,, and hallways are not air conditioned. Probably not an issue 90% of the time, but we stayed during a heat wave. Room was plenty cool at least.

made reservations ahead of time for nine-ten but was unable to be seated on the rear patio. came from out of state so an explanation of dinning options should be provided when reservations are being made.

Front desk staff and valets were helpful and welcoming .
Our room was directly above the outdoor restaurant patio which could be quite loud at night.
At check-in, the front desk staff asked us when we would like our room to be cleaned, so we requested mid-day. On two occasion they knocked on the door at 8am waking everyone up, and then they never returned to clean the room. Of the five nights we stayed at the Grande Colonial, the room was cleaned twice. Both times, it wasn't cleaned very well, the coffee cups and glasses were left uncleaned and coffee supplies were never properly replenished.

The Grande Colonial La Jolla is a hotel from a past era, and in a good way. There's plenty of comfort and convenience, but the building and decor feel like last-century coastal California... and I mean that as high praise. I notice from the hotel's photos that there are rooms with ocean views, but I didn't know that when I booked and I was very pleased with our room and its view on main street La Jolla. A great stay, if too short.
