Mike is amazing! Arrived just before end of check in time, which is 10 PM. Lobby was vacant but found him behind the serving drinks. He dropped what he was doing to get me situated for the night. Very friendly, honestly first time I ever felt the need to review someplace. I probably would have passed it up from outside appearance, and that would have been a crying shame! If I ever find myself in Tucumcari again, will definitely be stopping here.
Restaurant isn't open, but understandable in with the state of things these days.

This is my second stay at the motel. It has been over a year since my last stay but hotel owner recognized me and called me by name. It is very quiet and clean place. There is a bar on site if you want to get a drink. 10 stars.

Nothing.
There isn’t anything nostalgic about this old run down motel. We thought it was abandoned driving into town before realizing it was the place in this listing. The parking lots was scary empty except a broken down car, there is no internal lock on the room so didn’t feel safe, the decor is bedding is not sufficient, the decor is sad, the bathroom is….bad. You get the picture.
Also, they absolutely need to remove that this property has a pool. It is nowhere near working order and won’t be working anytime soon and it’s the middle of June.

Lovely, large, accomodating room. Clean, well prepared, everything in working order. Great price/value. Everything in the room worked, and it was quiet and restful...exactly what I needed as a solo traveller.
A bit off the beaten path --with a bit of the "Hotel California" vibe -- I was never concerned for my safety, just "...on a dark desert highway ..." away from town and not very many guests for such a large prop. Would def stay there by myself again.

The beds are good. It’s old but safe and clean. Good budget option. The manager is a very nice man.
The bathroom is a bit rough.

Location and quiet.

location
stuffy room stuffy. stuffy bathroom. Terrible tv and tv stations; no tv station guide. I swear the mgr. said $10 per per. He swore he said $20. Prob would not have stayed if it were $20/pet. Not nice enough place for $20 per per. So, my $62/night went to $92. NOT WORTH $92.

On-site bar
Large room
Comfortable bed
Easy check in and out
Pool out of order
Bathroom was clean but needed some attention to the mineral deposits on faucet, discoloring on the tub, and they painted over wall paper which just didn't look good.
Outside needs a new coat of paint. It is dull and unimpressive.
The town is long past it's prime.

Easy to get to. Friendly staff. Cool bar.
The room smelled horribly of mildew. AC unit was very small, and in the back of room by the bathroom! On a Friday night, the parking lot was empty, no other customers, which was very bizarre & speaks volumes. Mattress was extremely firm, which is bad for my back. Didn’t even unpack. Got my key, checked the room, and left the property. Didn’t discuss with staff bc while he was a nice guy, he was also a bit argumentative, which after 12 hours of driving I didn’t want to deal with. I had already prepaid the room so I just had to swallow the loss and went elsewhere. Found a great room with the most heavenly bed at the Rodeway Inn, $50, lower than price in this site.

I appreciate old Route 66 history. I’m sure this motel used to be buzzing with activity. Sadly, not enough people come through. The old bar is something else! old school, the kind of place that is dark, full of wood, old bar stools and the owner is the nicest man you will ever meet. Before Covid, the bar was alive every night, as it is the only bar in town. If you choose not to stay here, at least visit the bar. places like this are struggling to stay afloat and it’s a historical landmark in my book.
it’s old. ok? very basic, but clean. there were issues with not enough outlets to charge phones. also, the wall lamps above the bed had a short in them. it’s absolutely fine for one night as we were traveling to Kansas from Phoenix. A little spooky, but I love that. if you love urban exploration or appreciate days of yore, make sure to check out the old signs and closed properties from the mid century. The price was a little high compared to some other spots. of course $74 isn’t much, but we had to pay an extra $40 for our two little dogs. we chose not to stay on our way back as we found motels that did not charge extra for the pups. oh, and the pictures from the website are archaic: the pool is empty with old chairs piled up.

the washing machine needs a deep cleaning

We didn't understand there to be any breakfast, even continental. It seemed quiet and basically clean, but the motel is old and some things not repaired. Also bare minimum of amenities in the room for the price paid.
An extra roll of toilet paper. I also don't recall there being a microwave.

Mike and the bar.

It's an old motel that has it's charm, nothing fancy and a little outdated but a comfortable place to rest for the night. Staff was friendly and has a bar to grab a few drinks to end the night.
The town itself needs some work, unfortunately a lot of abandoned motels with few survivors. Wish I could have traveled and spent the night during it's glory days.

good location comfy enough
Guy at the desk overcharged us for our pet. We paid twice what was advertised for her and he acted like we were nothing him when we check in. Hotel was fine. Staff not nice.

Everything was wonderful. I can't say anything bad about this place. The only shock was I was 1 of only 3 guesses at the hotel. And that's a shame, this place deserves your business!

The person at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful. The room was large and clean.
The room was quite outdated.

Owner is very nice.
I have COPD and we have a dog. Hotels usually have certain rooms they allow pets in. Sometimes the staff uses deodorizer which exacerbate COPD issues in these rooms. That is what happened for us at Tristar. The owner even switched rooms for us but we were not able to stay here. We wound up getting a room at another hotel.

This is one of the very clean little gems along 66, where the owner cares, because they live here too! Clean, well maintained room was perfect, and the fact that a clean well maintained bar is on property? Enough said. It was a perfect road trip stop.

This hotel was at a great location right off the highway as we were just passing though, it was clean and quite (minus the trains) and had most of what we needed for our stay. There was a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker/coffee, a bar of soap and 2-1 shampoo packets.
The shower head could have used to be replaced in our room and there was no cream or sugar packets for the coffee that was provided. Also there was additional $10 per pet, pet fee.
4.5 / 5.0
The cleanliness, the bed, the pillows, and the friendly staff
The shower head could’ve been a little higher
