Beautiful Inn! It was as promised. I'm a coffee fiend and I appreciated the extra coffee supplies available in the public area. The free snacks were appreciated also.
Coffee stains on the doily covering the night stand.

Disappointing
Uncomfortable and squeaky bed, uncomfortable pillows and generally old tired bedding. No breakfast because of COVID???? Not sure anymore if this was made clear at time of booking.
2.5
There was no breakfast, after it had been advertised. There was no price considerations for this either.
Didn’t care for the self check in, no one to help with the process or answer questions.
4.5
The owner is trying his/her best to make you feel you are very welcomed. From I placed the order, I received quite some of very kind an useful messages form the owner. We arrived there late about 9 at night and leave early in the morning, so we didn’t bother them at all. Check in/out is very convenient. The location of the lodge is great, 15 min to the park, very quiet compared to the downtown. The room has everything you need. Room size is okay, bathroom is big. It’s out of my expectation for the money we paid.
No breakfast, as they described in the booking guide. But they do have fridge and microwave in the lobby. It’s good and easy to buy some food for breakfast.
Air con is a bit load.

We had a problem with the check-in, but we got a quick help.
Small bedroom for 2 with an infant.

This is a *very* comfortable house. The beds are great, and the air-conditioning made a huge difference during Maine's heat wave. Five adults and two kids fit easily in the house without it feeling crowded. The WiFi was excellent. The kitchen is well outfitted--we made our breakfasts and lunches and saved our funds for big seafood dinners. We didn't use the TV, but there are two. The huge upstairs bathroom has both a shower with steam and a large jacuzzi-type tub. It was especially nice to be told to "leave everything" on check-out--no guest cleaning activities required. It's a short 15 minute trip to town, but there is plenty nearby--especially C-Ray's, an old fashioned lobster shack with superb lobster and steamers, friendly service and reasonable prices--and the Sweet Pea coffee place. A car entrance to Acadia with free parking and buses is about 10 minutes away. And the location is on the way to Ellsworth--much less pricey than Bar Harbor. You can shop there at the amazing Reny's and eat fried clams at Jordan's Snack Shake. We enthusiastically recommend this house for a family vacation.
Nothing we didn't like, but the house has a lot of electronics. Try to get one of the hosts to meet you (it's self-check-in) and show you how things work. We spent some time figuring out the AC, the ice maker, the dual Keurig pot and the ceiling fans. And a tip: wait for two beeps after putting in the door code, and the door will unlock. Also note that the upstairs is a sort of loft with walls that don't go all the way to the ceiling. Great for kids or parents and kids; might be less appropriate for two unrelated couples.

Mixed messages in communication. Promised vouchers to breakfast place, but were none. Said no food, but had snacks out. Corroded batteries in the TV remote made making the TV work difficult. Still a nice place.

it is close to a Winery
you cannot walk the main door to the house the beds were not very comfortable and the headboard bangs against the wall we were there for three nights and no one ever brought us clean towels there is no one there they give you a coupon for a restaurant down in Bar Harbor to have your breakfast this was probably the worst bed-and-breakfast I ever stayed at
4.5
Spacious and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked. The house was in a quiet location with easy access to Acadia and Bar Harbor.
We didn't have much to complain about. The showers were on the small side, which is really only a problem for larger people.
4.0
Cozy house, with several bedrooms. Like a B&B with out the second B. location was good (between the two entrances for Acadia National Park and fairly close to town)
4.5
clean and nice setting
there was no hot water in the morning and the water pressure was too low to actually wash your hair and take a shower. the breakfast voucher was different than expected but the food was good.
4.0
Easy access to downtown quiet location
Check in: room info and key not available. Had to wait about 25 minutes for stone to bring us the key

historic with lots of charm. it felt like the old B&B. loved the extra touches -hairdryer,lotion, playing cards etc.

The inn was lovely. Well taken care of.
It was awkward not seeing anyone. The keys were left on a table. We never saw the host. Nothing really wrong...just seemed awkward.
1.0
The room was very clean.
The included breakfast is a gift card to a breakfast item at a gas station in Bar Harbor (8 miles drive away) that is owned by the same owner. And it’s not worth the drive!
We have never seen the owner, it totally lacks hospitality and is for the offered service way overpriced.
Rooms are outdated and not well put together.
3.5
Bathroom was religious experience. The house was quiet. The AC was cool, but loud. The common room was close. The common fridge was close. The guests were pleasant
it was cramped. too many silk flowers, not much space for our belongings. end tables very wobbly. lots of furniture in a tiny space.
“Long and winding road” is neither. It’s a driveway. They property sits on a busy road.

Not at all as described. No sauna, spa, or breakfast on site. No each room does NOT have a patio or seating area as advertised. We were greeted by text but the signs in the yard are confusing. We're told to help ourselves to snacks but there was only instand oatmeal. Pillows were flat and old, mattress too. Decor from the 80s - not 1880s ' 1980s. We tucked an ugly tattered and dirty rug with a pic of a Moose under the bed to avoid...First night ac worked but not second or third. Ceiling fan was too caked with dust to risk turning on. The bathroom was was adorned with paper wall calendar from 2021. The hair dryer gave off sparks. No breakfast on site but a voucher for 6 miles away. Never saw the owner - just horribly disappointed and over priced.
Update the whole place and only advertise what is really there.

The breakfast wasn't in the inn. We were provided with a voucher and should drive 15 minutes to the Bar Harbor downtown. It didn't work with our schedule for 2 mornings out of four. Also, there was a water cooler in the lobby, but there was no water in it in one of the days. There were no Kleenex in our room.

unlike some of the other reviews, our room was clean. we didn’t mind the quieter location as bar harbour itself is a madhouse!
we have travelled extensively throughout Australia, the UK, Europe & the US.
very rarely have I rated a property below 8, as each has its own uniqueness.
for this trip we have stayed in 3 Inns, all similar price point , and all in areas where the accommodation overall was similarly priced.
I wanted to be fair in my review sensing the frustration in some of the owners frustration , so I have done a comparison
Presentation: the other 2, immaculate gardens, with places to sit, tastefully decorated, quality furniture and accessories.
Heathwood: outdoor area unkept, a couple of nice chairs on the verandah
indoors was shabby, dated furniture. also as per the other comments, a mothball or strong smell
Bed, other 2: high quality mattress, pillows sheets & covers, again, tastefully done & matching
Heathwood: soft old mattress, flat cheap pillows, sheets & blankets were poker quality
breakfast: the other 2: served at the Inn, 3 courses with fruit, juice, coffee, home baked scones with the owners asking about dietary requirements
Heathwood: a voucher for their own diner 15 mins drive away. the voucher covered one item off the menu. nothing else. food is personal preference but it was just ok
upon arrival, at the other 2 Inns we were warmly welcomed by the owners who cared about their guests and took pride in showing us around
Heathwood: never saw the owners, and from what I understand, the Inn is one of several businesses, which explains a lot as running an Inn is a full time job, even the 2 we stayed at, the owners still needed assistance from staff
my advice would be, book ahead so you have more options for accommodation
If it was well cared for, the property could be great, but it appears it has been let go due to lack of time & focus, once the post pandemic domestic travel boom is over, I think they will struggle

The communication from the hosts via texts was excellent. She explained the contactless check-in process and even gave suggestions for things to do in the area. The location was great--close to the town of Bar Harbor but away from the worst of the traffic. The breakfast is a voucher for a location in town (Everyday Joe's), but that didn't bother us. The breakfast itself was excellent and fueled us up well for our hike in Acadia NP.
The facilities were a bit run down, sadly. Our room in particular had a few issues that made it hard to really relax. There were a number of bugs--spiderwebs in the bathroom and moths in the bedroom. There was a tear in the sliding screen door to the balcony which seems to be how the bugs entered the room. The room was packed with knick knacks and pillows that mostly just served as dust collectors and there was also dust on the ceiling fan that blew around when we turned it on. Finally, the sheets and quilt on the bed were clean and comfortable but were so doused in overwhelmingly perfumed detergent or Febreze that it triggered my allergies. Aside from the bugs and the dust, I realize that these are personal preferences. Some travelers may welcome the more old-fashioned and homey decor and may not mind (and may even prefer) highly scented linens. All in all, a little more attention to cleanliness and upkeep could make this Inn even better.

loved the sauna
appreciates the a/c was on so the room was cool
didn’t realize breakfast would be at a sit down restaurant-
assumed it would be something quick as we had a 12
drive - didn’t have time to backtrack to BH and have a
sit down breakfast.

Decent location and clean
The staff/owners never introduced themselves or acknowledged our presence. Our mattress was very uncomfortable, I would suggest an upgrade. Our welcome envelope containing our keys had the incorrect password for the wi-fi. Two days later I noticed a very small printed message with the Wi-Fi password posted in the lobby. The outside trash area is not adequate. Not enough cans so there was loose trash. I also saw a rat in the evening at the trash can. I would not recommend Heathwood Inn, spend your money elsewhere! The most expensive rooms we had on vacation and the most disappointing.

it was quiet and the place was cute
I had to go into Bar Harbor for breakfast

This is a lovely old home and the new owners, I think, are trying to make it a successful business. While NO STAFF was seen during our seven-night stay, Mary DID answer texts and provide information quickly. That is the only basis I have to rate the "staff." Our King Suite with fireplace and private balcony/porch was large and comfortable. The mattress was much softer than I like but we slept well. The bathroom was large, and the shower and toilet (very low) worked well. The room had a coffee maker and extra coffee packets were available in the lobby. The room was clean (except the bathroom A/C unit) and a portable room A/C, ceiling fan, and small standing fan kept it comfortable during a heat wave in the East. The private porch with table and chairs was lovely for enjoying the early morning hours but it was too hot at any other time. "Breakfast is included" means a voucher for "Everyday Joe's Cafe" in downtown Bar Harbor (8.3 miles and 15 minutes away). NO complaints with Everyday Joe's. We've eaten there since they opened in 2015 and the inn owner also owns this cafe, gas station and laundromat. Open at 06:30 and serving "Jamaican Me Crazy" coffee (THE best coffee), breakfast was prepared quickly and was very tasty. Usually drove in and picked up while wife was showering and then brought back to inn and enjoyed on our porch balcony. Lobby/common room is simple and very small with 3 small tables. Refrigerator available but fills quickly with other guests "cooler items." Water cooler available. Electric kettle for tea and tea bags. "Snacks" are just cookies. Instant oatmeal available. Bottled water available. Plastic cutlery and coffee creamer, sugar, etc. Lobby is not A/C and no fans, so it was too hot and stuffy to spend much time in. Parking spot for 2 vehicles available. PLENTY of clean towels and wash cloths.
"Breakfast is included" is deceptive even though the claim "We are not a B&B" is made on the website. A voucher for breakfast is included and that should be made clear. Part of the reason for staying here was to be OUT of the Bar Harbor crowds and, fortunately, Bar Harbor is DEAD in the early morning so driving in to pick up breakfast "to go" was not so bad. Most of our activities were AWAY from Bar Harbor and we didn't use the voucher on several mornings. I suspect that many of the guests do the same, so they are paying for breakfast that they don't get. I understand that the inn owner also owns "Everyday Joe's Cafe", so he benefits whether the voucher is used or not. Available snacks were just Grandma's Cookies. Offer some granola bars or some other snack alternative. Put a fan or room A/C in the lobby. Too hot and stuffy to want to spend any time there. CLEAN the vents in the bathroom A/C units. Black mold growing there. Make a tabletop electric/USB outlet available for PC use or phone charging so guests don't have to crawl behind furniture and unplug lamp to find an outlet. Common problem in old inns and B&B's and an EASY and inexpensive fix. Route 3 is VERY busy and noisy, and the inn is close enough to hear every vehicle drive by. Room A/C units helped a LOT at night to provide the "white noise" that drowned out the road noise.

The Heathwood Inn is just about a 15 minute drive to Bar Harbor/Acadia and a hop, skip and jump to Bar Harbor Cellars. The room was super clean with thoughtful amenities. I loved the shower and shampoo/conditioner that was provided and the towels were super soft!
Their is a full sized fridge, water cooler, toaster, and microwave in the common room for first use. in addition, their were assorted teas and packaged cookies, as well as oatmeal packets for guests.
While breakfast was not provided at the inn itself, we were given a gift certificate to a local restaurant.
The pillow was a little hard and the mattress a little soft. But that is just my personal opinion. Other people may find that to their liking.
3.5
The location was decent, it was quiet and not terribly busy. It was very clean.
The room was smaller than expected, and the overall facilities were just so so.
3.5
Location pretty good, 15 min drive to center/park. Nice breakfast at Joe's.
Bed was not comfortable. Otherwise good.
3.5
Very cozy place near Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The room was confortable and with plenty of space, but I think it is not woth the price, very expensive.

The bed was soft and probably 60 years old. Breakfast ? You had to travel 10 km to downtown Bar Harbor. Disappointing.
No lamp in the room to read.
Never again to this hotel
