The building itself is quite charming.

Lovely central location. Staff very helpful and friendly. We arrive late due to accidents on the road and were able to check in easily and still have a drink to relax after we had checked in.
Due to the age of the property the floorboards creaked a lot so very noisy every time there was a movement. Shower was unfortunately nothing more than an trickle and couldn't get heat to adjust properly.

The location was the only thing we liked !
The room was absolutely filthy , cobwebs and dust everywhere, the carpet had not been hoovered , the bathroom floor was filthy ! The windows were filthy inside and out , the windows hadn't been cleaned in years , there was cobwebs inside and outside of the windows and if you were to open them the pigeons would have been in ! There was black marks oily colour on curtains and nets , the nets and curtains were filthy , they had not been cleaned ! The mattress was yellow and stained , the furniture was old and marked ! The sink tap was loose and it was difficult to turn off ! The shower when correct temperature was set kept on going hot and cold whilst stood in it to extreme hot temperature! The wood next to bedroom cabinet next to window was all split , and behind cabinets was filthy ! When we first got to room we had to go downstairs to get them to put lights on ! The room , stairs and hotel stank ! There's no way we could possibly eat or drink in the hotel dining area due to smell ! Every time we touched anything in the room we felt dirty ! The electrics were poor with no plug sockets next to bed . The wardrobe was filthy , marks and threadbare chair .The cushion on the chair was filthy .Inside the ceiling lamps there was dirt marks ! The owners had not made any effort to clean or maintain the room or hotel and when we complained were oblivious to any issues we had and not interested .The health and safety should be making a visit to this disgusting hotel !

Bathroom had unclean lavatory, no toiletries and a used towel on the rail. Rang hotel direct after booking to reserve a ground floor room and received email confirmation, but no sign of request on arrival

Rooms need refurbishment and bathrooms. Breakfast was awful barely warm. The drinks and beverages at breakfast were barely warm. Had to ask for hot coffee and tea. Staff could be more polite

The location was amazing.
All of the 6 rooms booked were dirty, cobwebs & dusty, not hoovered, stained carpets, poor decor with wallpaper coming away from the walls and also stained. In 2 rooms, toilets would not flush, and rain poured through the ceiling in one of the bathrooms in another room. The pictures on the site were nothing like the actual rooms. literally put a dampener on the whole weekend for the family attending a wedding. The evening meal was not good, took ages to come out with only a choice of 3 mains. If we weren't tired from a long journey we would have sent it back. Did not want to risk eating breakfasts. Such a shame as the building is beautiful and a great location. Just very tired and run down, a lot of work is needed, wouldn't give it 3 stars.

Central and convenient location with good access to the the town center and very near to where I am currently working. The member of staff who checked me in was friendly and the room was clean.
The inside of the building was really hot and keeping the windows open didn't really make any difference. A very tired interior, in desperate need of a make over and the shower was just a weak trickle.

Cheap and clean enough
When we arrived for check in, the host had disappeared. We were only requiring to drop off bags as pre arranged and had a taxi waiting, we had to search the hotel corridors and call out for someone to help us. There were 2 other parties waiting for service too. Out taxi had to wait which incurred possible charges.
Upon a late night return, we were given a key which did not work, a second host had to open our room for us as the lock was jarred and required a special knack to open.

The staff were lovely and the location was great
Things were taken from our room, I had to go and find out where my belongings had gone. The shower didn't work properly, we could only get one tempreture which was scolding hot and then there was not water pressure so it was only dribbling out. The extractor fan also didn't work in the bathroom so there was not ventilation in there. Noisy vent right outside our room window which went off every 5 minutes day and night, making it hard to sleep.

The hotel is in dire need of a refurbishment. The bedroom curtains and net curtains were grubby and I was unable to open the window to get some air into the room. It would have been very stuffy on a hot day. The bathroom needs gutting. There was mould on the ceiling and some of the tile grouting. The hot tap in the basin continued to run and the tap itself was loose. There was no servicing of the room during our two night stay.

Needs a bit TLC very dated window in room cracked and held with sellotape and net curtain ripped, lid on kettle broken shower very poor. Creaky floorboards everywhere. Continental breakfast very poor selection and they don’t serve food at lunchtimes or evenings.

Overall we love this hotel. We prefer to stay in the main hotel which was able to be arranged on this occasion and our request for rooms next door to each other was also met. The rooms are great. I hate corporate hotels (we all know the ones we mean!) and the Rose and Crown is ideal with bedroom windows that actually open, lovely old wood floors, individual decor etc.
Our only slight issue this time was with the breakfast in that it appeared to be on a buffet service but the heat had been switched off which meant it was cold! However, the staff quickly remedied this and provided freshly cooked breakfast with the same great produce which we always get at this hotel. I believe the hotel is not able to offer lunch and dinner at the moment which does not affect us directly but may have been the reason for the slight breakfast issue.

Reception staff were lovely.
The toilet flush did not work... ??? the room was very hot and the fan really loud, there was some loud noise outside from an air handling unit maybe? meaning we slept pretty badly. The shower was spitting and water was tepid.

Rubbish on flat roof when you look out the window. "Rose garden" full of anything but roses, including large amount of cigarette butt's, petrol can, garden tools. Communal areas, hallway, stairs haven't seem a vacuum for about 6 months

Staff were lovely and the breakfast was tasty
The room facilities were very basic. The shower took a long time to adjust the temperature. The toilet either did not flush, or took 15mins+ to flush. Carpets were all very old and outdated. For the stay we had and the price, I absolutely would expect breakfast to be included, not £12.50 per person. Noting that it was a very hot day when we stayed, there were no temperature cooling facilities either, so the hotel was a furnace.

we stayed in the joining building and the downstairs entrance smelt badly of damp. the building was tired. our room was a great size but again was tired and dusty, cobwebs on window and net curtains. No shower just a bath which is an easy fix. Stained mugs in room.
