This hotel was everything we could wish for. friendly helpful staff, incredible location, comfortable room with little balcony and view of the bay. It is city Centre so of course there was some nighttime noise but we are city dwellers so we’re used to that. we would definitely choose this hotel again when we next visit Gijón
we loved everything

Excellent location and a hotel full of character.
Friendly Staff!
An outside courtyard/seating area with a bar would be nice, however I appreciate space is tight for this type of thing

The person (man) on the night shift behaved highly unfriendly. That kind of person should not work in the service sector if they dislike foreign customers that much.

The location of the hotel is in the heart of the older part of the city, near the yachting harbour and next to the sea front in a square that houses the town hall and various bars and restaurants.
The room we were given had been fairly recently refurbished to the level of a 2* hotel, e.g. Ibis, and the bathroom, even though it had a jacuzzi bath, had a cracked sink, badly fitted shower screen and discoloured sealant. The towels were very old and thin. The air conditioning was not controllable from the room and the receptionist cited government rules which meant that the air conditioning had to be kept at 27 degrees and was controlled from reception, so we could not even switch it off. It was reduced to 23 degrees after we objected, but again could not be switched off, therefore negating any electricity saving intended and making the stay uncomfortable. There were no storage drawers in the room and the wardrobe only had a single door, so either clothes on shelves or those hanging were open to view in the room.

great central location near the old quarter.within
walking distance to the beach and boardwalk.
Roman baths free and also close by.
they preserved the old historical lobby.
the room had a really nice view.
The service at reception was exceptional.
The hotel was in the plaza mayor with a little cafe across where we had breakfast

The excellent location and the view from our room.
The coffee wasn't very nice. Other than that, the hotel was very good value for money.

It was not in the city center, which was OK because that made it quieter. Also, there is a bus stop in front of the hotel, and it is an easy and pleasant half-hour walk to the old city. We did not have breakfast here, but dinner was quite good. I was here in September, so I was able to enjoy the swimming pool. I would book here again.
No complaints.

The greeting and checking in process.
I arrived at the hotel and was professionally and warmly greeted by a tall, dark-haired lady at reception. She handled the check-in extremely pleasantly, made me feel comfortable and welcomed. After I had taken my bags to the room she clearly explained the difference options I had to park my car and gave me directions to the both carparks. We spoke Spanish and I noticed that she had the same friendly and professional attitude to the other guests who were asking for information.
When I returned quite late in the evening she was on duty and I was able to order breakfast for the following morning after she explained the time options available to me.
As with most hotels the deciding factors after the cleanliness and facilities that you would expect from a 4 star hotel, is the professionalism of the staff and their treatment of the customer.
The hotel was really clean and comfortable and I had a super view, directly onto the main plaza. The breakfast was enjoyable and good value for money and the staff at breakfast were great. However the factor that set the tone for an enjoyable stay was the check-in experience. I think that the receptionist that handled my check-in (and her interactions with other clients) is a credit to the hotel and should be commended.
The receptionist at checkout was unfriendly and unprofessional, just awful. I checked out on the morning of 29th July and was staying in room 403.
The check out was the worse I’ve experienced in Spain (I’ve stayed in 5 properties so far trip; 4 hotels and 1 hostel) and it was the poorest checkout I’ve experienced anywhere I’ve ever stayed.
There was no level of customer service, friendly conversation, or questioning about the quality of my stay, whether everything was ok, or any appreciation whatsoever, let alone acknowledgment, of my custom. Also bear in mind that I had it’s supposed to be a 4 star hotel and that I had stayed there for four nights and chosen to purchase breakfast too on one of the mornings.
The check out was conducted in Spanish (I speak fluent Spanish, so it wasn’t a problem of language, but of attitude. The receptionist, a woman with curled, dyed - blond hair, simply took my money with the scarcest amount of interaction possible, so much so that if I hadn’t said ‘goodbye’ to break the awkwardness I literally would have walked out without her even saying ‘thank you’, for my payment, or my custom or even wishing me a good day or anything else.
It was an absolutely, awkward and dreadful experience. She let the whole establishment down, failed me as a customer and I certainly hope that she isn’t allowed to ruined the experience of others in the same way in the future.

Two of the three receptionists during our stay were excellent. One arranged a difficult taxi for us and the other found out about and arranged our covid tests. However the one on duty when we arrived purposely didnt tell us they had a loading and unloading area , even though we explained we had alot of luggage and we ended up dragging it 15 mins through the streets in the pouring rain. We specifically had asked her how to get the luggage in and she merely directed us to the paid parking!! However on the plus side, all three spoke excellent english and french and since we do not speak spanish and had arrangements to make, we appreciated this. Having this help from the two good receptionists and the location was the best thing about this hotel. The location is hard to beat.
It is very dated. the building is noisy at night (flushing toilets, banging doors and shutters etc), plus parquet flooring and dark wood furniture made it feel very old fashioned, the bathroom had been retiled and redecorated but with old style fittings (bath with shower over, bidet etc) I have since heard that there is a more modern part of the hotel but well, we were not offered a room there, perhaps it was more expensive? The aircon is not noisy but was inefficient. the balcony was TINY, you could barely get your feet on it and it felt like standing on a ledge, wouldnt suit anyone not liking heights/drops plus there was no way you could have got a chair or anything on it. The tv remote ws in a plastic bag, presumably for easy cleaning but it didnt look new or cleaned! There was no kettle or tea/coffee making in the room and the cafe wasnt open 'apart from at weekends' she said so no way to get a coffee or tea, there wasnt a bar either and if there was a lounge we never found it. the 'minibar' was just an empty fridge and anyway went off as soon as you took your key out so no good for keeping the bottle of wine we bought in desperation cold. The towels were threadbare and none of it felt luxury or 4 star at all, I cannot believe this hotel is 4 star. Breakfast was awful, and it turned out you had to pay for it on top. We only went in for it as it was the only way to get a cup of coffee in the morning. It was a buffet (thought those were not covid safe??) and everything was out of a packet like ham, cheese and orange juice. It was all laid out and anyone could wander around touching the lids, tongs or any of it. There was hand gel out but i didnt see anyone use it. The first day there were a couple of guests wandering around with their masks not on, touching all the breakfast stuff and so we left.
