Great food and atmosphere, nice room, very dog friendly

Room was on the slightly small side, however rooms were spotless - very clean.
Regarding food, breakfast was okay, evening food was average - was expecting better.
Would have liked a better choice of food at evening.

The property is in a great location and the gardens to the rear are beautiful and well maintained.
The staff were absolutely miserable. I’ve never gone somewhere where I’m paying money and been made to feel so unwelcome. There was an older gentleman behind the bar who grafted his behind off and was warm and professional throughout. Shame the same could not be said for the rest of the staff who were blatantly bothered by the custom and clearly didn’t want to be there. The room was so small and the mattress was so hard to the point myself and my partner were wide awake at 3.30am in discomfort and struggled to get back to sleep.
This place could be perfect but the lack of warmth and professionalism from the majority of staff has left us with a really bitter feeling.
We visit other hotels within this chain and have never experienced this atmosphere.
Sadly we will not return.

Very pretty and old world, but the rooms are very up to date and classic
The pillows were very hard!

Le petit-déjeuner, l’ambiance du pub/inn
La première chambre qui nous été allouée toute petite et très bruyante (chambre 15)

Food was really nice, staff were great, room was silent even though being next to restaurant/ bar
Can’t fault it… views a short walk away are great too!

Lovely, nice staff and comfy!

Breakfast offered a cooked selection and was well cooked and served by pleasant and courteous staff
Restaurant staff in the evening were friendly and very helpful
Very noisy kitchen extraction fan directly beneath our bedroom window completely spoiled the first night of our stay. The hotel was unable to change our room until the second night.
There was nothing on the website ,or at check in, to inform us that our room would be noisy from 7.00am-9.30pm. Very disappointing, especially when the hotel admitted they knew it was a noisy room!
Evening menu was limited, with a number of choices either not available or changed completely.
4.3
cleanliness, surroundings, friendly
menues a bit basic, quality good though, variations of gin very limited, too much Gordon’s Gin.

Cozy coaching Inn. The staff was great, especially Jan. Dinner was very good. The crumpets and croissants at breakfast were a nice touch.
Our room was comfortable, clean and a good size.
We would definitely stay again.
4.3
Nice garden! Sun shining
Not value for money! Room very small. Not enough teabags or milk, no added extras eg tissues, water! They should be a given.
Walk in guests received a much cheaper room rate than we paid.
Breakfast: no fresh fruit, croissants. service hit and miss.
Manager on shift, tried to be helpful, however didn't quite hit the mark.
We have stayed here previously. Would we stay here again? Hmm... probably not.

Setting near Bassenthwaite Lake in beautiful countryside with lovely walks. Good weather meant we enjoyed the pub gardens and the Inn was historic with character, little bars, and old wooden furniture. Not changed much in 300 years.
Food. Evening meals varied from average to poor, breakfast was over cooked.

We have visited for years since our honeymoon. It has changed and lacks the finesse and detail like fresh flowers and a lounge to sit in which most hotels have. We understand the changes are needed for it to survive and be economically viable.
Not one lounge to sit in. It’s lost it’s unique quality.

I booked this accommodation at the last minute due to a date change but couldn’t really have been more pleased. The location is good for many walks, you will need a car but there’s plenty of parking. The staff are friendly and polite. It’s very clean and well maintained. Everything looks fresh. I’d happily stay here again.
The food menu is a bit limited and pricy but I had meals both nights and enjoyed it.

Breakfast - sensible way of serving lots of people quickly. Good choices. Lovely vegetarian cooked breakfast. 8.5 /10
Dinner. Would prefer table service. Mushroom burger 6/10, chicken masala 8/10, risotto 4//10 - too preprepared, small & stodgy.
Lack of a residents' lounge, would have been nice to relax with papers / magazines somewhere other than bedroom.
Didn't appreciate paying bill immediately on arrival particularly as I didn't want my wife to know how much it was costing.
Slightly aggrieved that so many customers were staying one night for a much cheaper winter break tariff whilst I was paying full whack!
4.3
Very comfortable place to stay with a lovely room and a great snug area to unwind with a beer.
4.3
The breakfast was wonderful, the location is beautiful an quiet.
4.3
The bar and restaurant. Good food and nice atmosphere. Friendly staff.
Room was a little overpriced for the size and was in close proximity to other guests and rooms due to being in front of shared entrance. Could hear other guests in their room. Window opens up onto the car park and a road so can be a little noisy at certain times.
I only needed to stay for the night so was adequate for what I needed.

decor
The hotel room dimensions where laughable.
No bath or mini bar.
Damp and dirty smell coming from the shower.
Uncomfortable mattress and thin duvet with no additional sheets or towels.
Cold room with draft blowing under the door from the hallway. We where woken numerous times by every single movement from the rooms above creaking through the ceiling.
No indication of breakfast times or procedure and very Uninterested staff.
Poor portion sizes, and long wait times in the restaurant coupled with an expensive menu and no table service, even at breakfast we had to get our own teapot etc?
4.3
Good breakfast and inn retains a certain old-world charm.
A detail but the bathroom mirror was too far away from the sink
4.3
Good value for money. Great food, service and breakfast. Free parking. Good room.
The only thing we would have liked was a lounge area with sofas and fire.
4.3
Great staff who were very friendly & welcoming. Fab food & very comfy bed. Large room with wonderful views.
Shower in the bath. Prefer a walk in shower. Didn't spoil it though.
