It has great ocean view, near the beach, town proper and other scenic spots. My family and I loved the cabins ( rooms sizes, kitchen, bathrooms and very big balcony), the pool and the outside private onsens.

The rooms, beddings and bathroom in the main building/hotels needs major updating and changes. It is not only that you’ll be outside all day, but also wanting a more pleasing, comfortable resting/sleeping room at the end of the day…. One pillow per bed is not comfy.

Superb!!

This place is exceptional. The staff are all wonderful and kind. They made us feel welcome from the first moment we arrived. The rooms are lovely with a sea view that is just gorgeous! The breakfast was excellent, with lots of nice taste treats! There’s a bus stop going to either Shirahama Beach or into Shimoda very close by (1-2 minutes walk). There’s a swimming pool, bar and an onsen on site. This place just can’t be faulted!

Friendly and very helpful staff. Private onsen was fantastic. Inexpensive drinks on the terrace and delicious breakfast.

A lovely family run property with great amenities, breakfast, view, and beach access!

Beautiful view, lovely property, excellent pool, great breakfast, peaceful onsen, and easy walk to Shirahama Beach. Rooms were well air conditioned and equipped, despite the smaller size.

If you wanted to be close to Shimoda, it was an hour walking distance (but there is a safe sidewalk path to use). It is a quick 8-10 minute drive and there are taxi options available if you do not have a car, that being said. Additionally, some guests may have trouble in the smaller bathrooms (we found them adequate).

It's near the famous beach and takes about 15 minutes to walk. There are also a bus stop nearby, making it easy to get around. The staff were very welcoming. Breakfast is very rich. They have ocean view hot springs, which are really beautiful.

Although they have washing machines, they do not have dryers, which is not convenient for travelers. There aren't many restaurants around, so dinner is a problem. But this does not affect my good impression of them, I still look forward to the next time to go.

Lovely friendly place with stunning views

The property is in a lovely location, with a beautiful swimming pool and a few minutes' walk to stunning Shirahama beach. The staff were all so friendly, kind and thoughtful. The breakfast was spectacular. There are two outdoor baths with lovely views that can be booked for private use. We had a wonderful time.

Nothing to do with the property but there aren't many places to eat within walking distance. There is a convenience store just a few minutes walk away. Just be prepared to plan ahead if not eating at the property.

We had an amazing time here. The owners and staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Views from the patio and pool are spectacular and facilities include complimentary onsen overlooking the sea. E-bikes can be rented on site and many attractions can be reached this way. It is possible to prebook an exceptional 5 course Japanese meal in the on site restaurant, the best food we have had in Japan, as well as eating at a cook your own Bbq restaurant next door. Every evening the poolside bar serves very reasonable drinks and guests can relax and mingle. Highly recommended. We will definitely return.

Superb

Location is just a short walk away from Shirahama Beach where convenience stores and surf shops can be found as well. The building is a quaint open-concept villa that is very clean and cozy considering the beach location. We loved the "kashikiri" private onsen/hot tub on site with ocean views. Will definitely recommend to future visitors to Shirahama or Shimoda.

Staff were very kind in person but unresponsive to email inquiries before our stay.

Everything about this place is lovely. The breakfast is delicious, the staff very friendly. You can rent bikes to go around and the rooms are comfortable. The onsen and the pool are excellent.

I don’t think I can do Gardenvilla justice with my words. I love this hotel so much and the people that work here. firstly the outlook - wowee, this is so beautiful. the new pool is awesome! we swam a lot even though it was quite cold still in May. a short walk to the two best beaches around where we swam too. also - we hired the bikes which were so good, we rode about 50km in one day on them. the meals - omg, the best we had in Japan - do yourself a favour and get the dinner one night at least and the brekkie yum yum. finally - just wanted to send a big thank you to the beautiful people who run this place. thank you for looking after our honeymoon celebration. Perfect.

My husband and I have been several times to this establishment and it is always amazing. The people are very helpful and kind, the food is amazing, the scenery is extraordinary, it’s not even two minutes to a bus stop to the nearest station. It is always clean and comfortable. The amenities are wonderful. We cannot say enough great things about Gardenvilla Shirahama…it is the only place we stay in Shimoda.

We were able to relax during our stay. Shirahama beach is very close.

Great breakfast! The pancake was amazing! The view from our room was excellent, we had a sea view. The staff and the owners are very friendly. It's clean everywhere.

The internet connection was a bit weak.

Super close to the beach (walking distance), we were able to store our surfboard on site. Parking on site and free. Onsen on site. Restaurant right next to the hotel. Great living room area to eat and chill in. Would stay again!

The restaurant had weird hours (although this is not a reflection on the hotel).

Nice view

The view is very nice. You can walk around in their garden, to have a BBQ dinner. The staff are helpful. I recommend on their breakfast.

Superb

Excellent view, and the staff was very friendly. Free drink selection was nice as well. The outdoor bath was enjoyable, though you have to reserve it ahead of time. Had everything we needed.

My wife thought the outdoor bath time's 40 minute limit was a bit short. The driveway up to the parking lot was incredibly steep, our car could barely make it. Rooms were a little tight.
