Not only does Rye transport you to another time, this accommodation does as well. Just beautiful.

Great location within the town centre and for visiting the south coast seaside towns. Nick the property owner was very helpful, responsive and easy to communicate with.
The property certainly had lots of character and really useful amenities but would benefit from a bit of a makeover. Probably quite a few years since re-painting and some carpet stains. All fairly superficial stuff and easy to remedy.
Having said that, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend.

Perfect spot to explore the town from, close to the train station and buses to the beach. Very much appreciated the fans in each room, and on a scorching weekend the house stayed lovely and cool. Do watch out for low doorways and steep stairs to the top room!

We stayed as a family of five and we enjoyed every minute. The Artist`s Cottage has lots of character while it is super-clean and tidy, renovated to a very high standard, tastefully decorated, with lots of space for each family member. Also, Nick and Rachel were very friendly and helpful hosts.

Great stay. The property is perfectly located. It has spacious living area and comfortable beds. As others have mentioned it is a quirky property with narrow steep staircases and low ceilings/beams in places. The hosts were very welcoming and provided great info. An enjoyable stay

Great base for hiking
Thanks for hosting us for a hiking weekend in this beautiful and quiet corner of the country. The house was so characterful and historic, and very convenient for the train station and fish and chips!

Three generations stayed here and loved it. Great location. Property has lots of character - wooden beams, low height doorways and narrow staircase to top twin bed bedroom. Nice touch to have bottle of wine, bread, milk and eggs left for us. Superb communication with owner Nick.

Tolles und sehr besonderes Haus, perfekt gelegen
Um es kurz zu machen- es war großartig!!
Sehr uriges und charmantes Haus in dem es an nichts mangelte. Perfekte Lage mitten in Rye. Alles Wichtige, Nötige, Schöne und Leckere maximal 5 Minuten Fußweg entfernt. Auch das Städtchen ist der Hammer. Absolut empfehlenswert.

Great location in Rye
The property is very old, interesting and rather quirky. The location in the centre is excellent and the fish shop next door is not a problem even though constantly busy. The property has low ceilings and some even lower beams so not great for tall people. Because of the location, car parking is remote but nevertheless reasonably priced.

Pros … this property is well kept and accurately advertised by the owners and has a newly fitted kitchen. It is right in the heart of Rye, the location could not be better for exploring Rye and being close to lovely restaurants and pubs. The oldest pub in Rye is about 20 yards away.
The cons are these. This is a character property and very dark inside. There is a small landing above the kitchen which has a sofa and is light and airy, we spent our morning coffee up there which was very pleasant but there is really only room for two people to sit. Other than this there is limited light into the cottage so it feels a bit gloomy. The upside is that I imagine it remains cool in very hot weather (it wasn’t very hot when we visited).
The other criticism is the TV size in the main sitting room; very small. My friend and I like to explore during the day, have a nice meal and then pick something to watch whilst enjoying a drink for the remainder of the evening. To do this we had to sit in the games room which has a larger screen TV.
My bedroom was very quiet but my friend (in the room with the en-suite bath/shower) complained about being woken up by bin collections or similar on a number of days, this may or may not bother different people. There is only one shower which is en-suite to this bedroom.
Overall this is a nice property in a great location. It’s next to a fish & chip shop but there is neither smell nor noise from this, so it’s simply a handy option for eating.
If driving you need to arrange your own parking, we used Just Park to book a space outside a Motel about 5 minutes walk away off Cinq Port Street.
Definitely recommended, subject to the comments above.

Beautiful, historic in the heart of Rye
We managed to book this property at the last minute having cancelled foreign holiday due to covid-19. It's right in the heart of historic Rye and is itself a beautiful cottage with all the amenities you would hope for.
The property was very clean and comfortable throughout with lots of quirky features and made the perfect location for exploring the town of Rye.
There are a couple of things you may want to be aware of (these things didn't spoil our stay but it's worth noting)
As an old property some of the ceilings are very low (we expected this but if you are 6ft+ you will stoop a lot!)
Next door to a (very good) fish and chip shop. You will smell them frying and the front door (in summer) will frequently be blocked by customers (they jump in shock when you open the front door).
There is very little outdoor space. A small balcony is great but cramped.
The table football was great, couldn't find the table tennis table that was advertised?
Please don't think the above spoiled our stay, they didn't, The Artists Cottage was a beautiful house in a stunning town.
We'd go back!

Fantastic House and Location
We had a wonderful stay. The house fulfilled all our needs and roof terrace lovely to have a glass of wine in the evening. Shower was brilliant and beds all comfortable. Can’t fault it. The hosts have been so kind and always got back to us about any questions we had straight away .

New Year in Rye
We hired this house four 6 of us to explore Rye during the New Year period and was not disappointed. If you like your stays somewhere slightly unusual and historical this property is ideal. The beds were super comfortable and the accommodation had everything that was required plus more. The kitchen while small was ideal for a stay in Rye, there are ample places to eat out within 5 minutes walk with a traditional fish and chip shop right next door as well as an inn and several pubs and restaurants. The house itself had 3 self contained rooms as described and my only warning would be some rooms have low beams as you would expect from a cottage of this age and at 6ft I had to learn to duck. Ease of access and comms with the owners was always prompt and efficient and the log burner a cosy extra in winter. Would I stay again, most definitely, a true gem of a house in a gem of a town.

Spacious, cozy family retreat
Lovely, historic home in the heart of Rye. My family especially enjoyed the games room, the modern amenities in this updated property, and the superb location with shopping, restaurants, and a nearby playground. This is a perfect place for a relaxing vacation.

Staying in Rye in the Artist Cottage
We very much enjoyed our stay. The property suited our large, adult family group very well. It was a very interesting historical house, though the low ceilings require care! The house met all our needs and the local area is really interesting and quaint. We loved our visits to Bodiam Castle, Sissinghurst Gardens and Great Dixter. We also enjoyed walking around Rye.

Super holiday. Exceeded all expectations.
We stayed in the cottage as a family with three older boys. The cottage itself is full of character and so spacious with lots of places for everyone to relax. Our eldest enjoyed playing guitar on the mezzanine and we all enjoyed the table tennis. Booking was easy and as our hosts responded quickly to our enquiries. Rye itself is beautiful - it was like opening your door onto a film set each morning. There are numerous options for eating and drinking right on your doorstep. We enjoyed trips to Battle, Hastings and Camber Sands. We didn't want to leave - hope to visit again.
Thanks Rachel and Nick.

Fantastic cottage in central Rye
We were staying as a group of adults in Rye and had a fantastic time at the Artist's Cottage. The house has really spacious living areas, much more so than we were expecting for such an old property. There are a few low beams and characterful staircases, but nothing you wouldn't expect from a cottage. It was spotless and Rachel was very helpful with my enquiries in the lead-up to our trip. We had an excellent meal a couple of doors down in the Standard Inn. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the cottage again and to recommend it to friends.

Gorgeous cottage in centre of Rye
This cottage is a lovely find, in a wonderful location in the centre of Rye. It is suitably quirky given it's age but very comfortable and modernised where it counts (kitchen and bathrooms!). It was very clean and the welcome pack of wine and chocolates was a nice touch. Parking was an easy 5 mins walk away and shops were very handy. The cinema is a few minutes' walk and there is a great pub two doors down serving delicious food. Rachel was really helpful with any queries we had when making our booking and we really hope we might get back there again one day.

What a wonderful property
6 adults were here to celebrate a 60th birthday for 3 nights - cannot fault this cottage - it had everything you needed - beautifully furnished with all mod cons - very quirky - the pictures do not do it justice - we loved every minute and would definitely return - a joy from start to finish - a big thank you to the owners.

Lovely cottage in a great place!
We spent a wonderful week at the Artist's Cottage with our three young children. The house is full of charm and character and is very warm and cosy. There is lots to do in Rye itself, with many shops, pubs and restaurants on the doorstep and the castle and church are well worth a visit, as is Lamb House (National Trust), plus a great surrounding area. Highly recommended!

Perfect for a family weekend away.
We stayed in this cottage for a long weekend with our two grown up children and their partners and two small grandchildren. The cottage was perfect for us with lots of nooks and crannies that the children loved. The layout of the bedrooms gave us all some privacy and with 4 toilets there was never a queue! The large dining room table was perfect for leisurely dinners with all the family and the games room a fun aspect. We felt at home straight away as the cottage has such a nice feel to it. Lots of nice touches from the owners with wine, coffee and chocolates. The location was great with shops, restaurants and pubs on the doorstep. We were able to stop outside the cottage to unload the cars and there is a large car park for a very reasonable charge just 5 minutes walk away. The church is well worth a visit, especially going up to the top but beware of the steep steps. Camber Sands a short drive away with lots of amenities, lovely for a long walk in the morning. A very nice cottage in a lovely location for a family weekend.

Gorgeous cottage in idyllic Rye
What a lovely stay.
The cottage is quirky and beautiful. We stayed in the en-suite back room with a very comfy king sized bed.
The accommodation was clean. very well laid out and was well equipped with lots of kitchen equipment and a nice big flat screen TV!
The owners Rachel and Nick were great to communicate with, and very flexible, and left very clear and helpful instructions. A lovely touch was a book for guests to leave their recommendations in.
Rye is fantastic: lots of little galleries, shops and an amazing choice of places to eat and drink. We had a great meal (and service) at Globe Inn Marsh.
We also had a lovely trip to nearby Camber sands.
The beauty of the cottage is its location right in the heart of the town, so everything is on your doorstep.
We would love to visit again.
