Drop a fishing line in Lake Buchanan off the shore or sunbathe on the beach to bask in the slow pace of life here at Seahorse Cove. This spacious property sits right on one of Texas's best bass fishing lakes, also stocked with catfish and gar. Tie off your boat on-site in the cove or slide a rented kayak into the water from the sandy stretch of beach. If you're up for some cliff jumping, you can explore Inks Lake State Park about nine miles to the south. There are several nearby wineries and the Vanishing Texas River Cruise is definitely worth checking out. A convenience store and Buchanan General Store are nearby and Burnet is only 15 minutes away if you want to visit Fort Croghan Historic Museum, the Hill Country Motorheads Museum, or buy groceries.
Originally a Texas Ranger's bunkhouse, this beautiful 1930s home retains all its original vintage charm from a location atop a cove shaped like a horse’s head. The full kitchen, along with the stone fireplace and large windows, gives you plenty of space to spread out, while the cozy cabin makes a perfect spot for kicking back after a long day in the sunshine. My husband and I wanted a mini getaway and so we went to Burnet to this hideaway that took me back to country living, the place was very homey clean and the bed super comfortable. My husband loved the lake views. As we sat outside there was nice breezes and no humidity ...we fished and enjoyed spending interrupted time is this beautiful home and space. We will be returning

This place was a hidden gem. Great views of the wild life and aslo of the the lake. Place was an older gome but well kept. Had a great time there. Would definitely recommend this property to others who want a nice quite getaway.

I love the cozy vibe of this cabin. If there was beach access I would have loved it more, but it was a nice quiet place with a nice view.

Such a great place! I recommend it for anyone who wants to unplug and get away for a few days or more. Very relaxing and welcoming. The sunsets were beautiful.

We had the most relaxing and wonderful getaway. The rustic charm was just what we needed. we saw a beautiful sunset, a deer and a fox. It was quiet and peaceful. It did have cobwebs behind curtains and doors and in the windows but, even that just endeared us more to the rustic charm. Can’t wait to go again! I highly recommend it!

Pretty view, roomy, fairly well stocked.

We went to Burnet, the self proclaimed Bluebonnet Capital, to to see the flowers. 2024 is a banner year! Kitchen was well stocked with dishes, glasses and cutlery. Knives were sharp enough. There were pots and pans. This was meaningful because it would be a hike to go to town for meals. We cooked dinner and breakfast 2 times each. I did have to rewash glasses. Because there is no dishwasher, you are at the mercy of the previous occupants' skills. Bed was quite comfortable. We appreciated having Direct TV. It is very quiet and we enjoyed two nice sunsets. It would be ideal if the lake was fuller but a drought is in place across the area. Enjoyed watching the deer in the yard in the early morning.

Very nice. Clean. Easy to find. Beautiful addition and character. Wi-Fi was a bit troublesome but worked. We loved the old original floors and the squeak in the master bedroom. Kitchen was very nice and decorated well.
First hot shower had sulfur smell which is not uncommon with electric water heaters and well water that sit sometimes. Subsequent showers it was much better.
Would stay there again regardless.
Bluebonnets were coming up. Views over the water were amazing. Close to town if needed.

This home/cabin is understated. The view and amenities are very nice. The property and water view really add to the appreciation of this home. Our only regret is it staying longer.

In many ways Seahorse Cove cabin is lovely. The furnishings are well-considered, the bed very comfortable, and the setting restful and peaceful. There are important improvements that would make this the perfect stay, and the good news is they are all doable. The first is the instructions given for arrival, which said “gate code” and gave other physical descriptions of the entrance. What was confusing was that the gate that matched the description didn’t have a keypad (because “gate code”). As it turned out the code was for a padlock. If that had been included in the instructions, it would have saved us frustration (and driving up and down the country road making sure we didn’t have the address wrong).
The other major problem was the strong sulfur smell. Other reviews mentioned it and the owner/management response was that a filter had been installed. While there was a Brita pitcher in the fridge, the smell comes from the hot water. So, every time we washed dishes (dishes had to be hand washed – no big deal except for the smell), washed hands, showered, the whole cabin smelled. I would think a filter on the hot water line could go a long way to solving this problem.
There are other little things that would make for a better experience (a listing of local TV stations, clearing out more than one small drawer for guests’ clothes, an ash bucket for the fireplace), but the real problem was that the confusion over arrival and the smell really set the tone for the stay. This listing has a LOT of potential and I hope the owner/management will consider these improvements.

This is a nice quiet, comfortable place to stay for two or a a small family. The living room has a nice view but the lake is severely low. Need rain!

Beautiful property

This property is absolutely beautiful. It’s a great peaceful escape from the city while also being close enough to a lot of great things to do in Hill Country. I stayed here by myself as a way to get away. However, I underestimated the “nature” aspect. There were animal footprints throughout the property and late night sounds that had me a little spooked. Also, it was challenging to keep the bugs out. However, I did enjoy my time overall and am grateful for the way they have kept up the property. There was NO issue with the water, as other reviews have mentioned. I would suggest a new set up for the TV cable box as it started to overheat with a warning on the tv that it would shut down after about an hour. I propped it up to get some air underneath which helped. I would recommend a stay here to anyone looking for a nice quaint retreat in the woods with lots of open space to enjoy nature.

Lake Buchanan is very low and this was not mentioned in the description. The walk to the receded water was not convenient and couldn’t be enjoyed as listing described or the photos show. Also, the restrictions on numbers of people on the property are too strict. I rented this property for my parents to stay in as we were up the road at Inks Lake State Park. After questioning the property manager twice, I finally got a response that we could not all visit my parents at this rental because we would exceed the 4 person accommodation restriction. I would have booked another place if I had known this. This property is way over priced considering the lake is down and if you stay here, you can’t have visitors.

I loved the ranch bunkhouse feel. Very comfortable, clean, everything i needed was there. The view of the lake was stunning. Very quiet and peaceful.

The cabin was exactly as advertised. Nice sitting room. We had trouble with the entry code to the door and called guest services. We received help immediately. We would definitely rent again.

This was our second stay at Seahorse Cove and it won't be our last. We didn't think we'd like the now-enclosed back porch but it was great, especially when we got to watch one of those thrilled Texas thunderstorms roll in across the lake.
Everything was clean and comfortable. The kitchen is reasonably well furnished though the knife (yep, only one) needs to be sharpened. The water was much lower than our last visit but we still enjoyed swimming daily. It's a great space for a couple or a small group of friends that doesn't mind sharing a bathroom.
The only downside was when the storm knocked out the living room TV and it took way too many calls and texts and back and forth with customer service reps in another country who were useless. Once the local folks got back to us, everything was handled quickly. Those same customer service reps gave contradictory, and wrong, answers to questions before our stay. The property is great. Vacasa, not so much. That's an opinion formed from multiple stays at different places managed by them.
Things to know:
Check the level for Lake Buchanan before you book if the water level is a factor for you. Water Data For Texas dot org has LCRA information that's easy to read.
Take bottled water to drink if you're picky. I thought the tap water was fine but the two others in my group preferred bottled.
Customer service may say there are no beach chairs but there are at least 6 plastic Adirondack chairs that can be easily carried to the beach.
CS may also tell you the TV only has cable. It actually has Dish (useless) and the new one in the living room has most streaming apps but the internet speed makes streaming a hit or miss proposition. Netflix was great, YouTubeTV wasn't.
To Vacasa - improve your customer service. It was truly awful and I'm glad I didn't need anything more important than TV.
To the owner - let Joey install a French drain outside by the fireplace so water doesn't seep in during a big rain. And consider some weather stripping around the door on the lake side for the same reason. Otherwise, don't change a thing because it's just a lovely place and Joey is fantastic!

We enjoyed the place. Views were great!!! Outdoor area was wonderful. We saw white pelicans, all kinds of ducks, robins, cormorants, and a lot of deer.
We needed better directions to find the gate in the almost dark.

We found this hidden gem for my husband’s birthday weekend. It was perfection at its finest. He is a photographer and was able to capture some amazing pictures. Great antique shopping nearby as well as a wonderful Lake Buchanan cruise which enabled us to see some bald eagles in the area.

The property had pros and cons but overall we enjoyed our stay:
- Isolated away from neighbors is how we like it to be
- Great place to have complete silence from traffic or unwanted noises
- Fireplace was awesome. Inside did a great job of keeping us warm. Outdoor fire ring allowed us to chill during cool nights
- Place was generally clean and tidy. Feels cozy. Outdoors felt spacious and quiet. Saw several deers almost each day roaming around.
- Interior had some minor cobwebs not of concern
- The lake water level depicted in the listing was not correct. We had even ask before booking this place if the water level was the same as depicted by the picture and the answer was yes. The water level is about 10ft lower. Came to find out it was low for about the last 6 months.
- No where in the listing stated water has smell and taste of sulfur. We only knew the fact after booking the place. Luckily the smell and taste was tolerable by us.
- We generally don't intend using wifi for most of out travels, however, when times we had to use the wifi, speed and connection range was not good.

The cabin was adorable, fully stocked. Great place to get in and out of the Lake. Water was low but could still get in and enjoy.

Loved the location, wish we had some rain to eleven lake level. All in all I’ll be back.
Thank you so much

Loved the location, it took our family in history back to 1930 to see what is was like back in the Cowboy days! Plenty of room! Straight walk to the lake of the Sandy beach. I will come stay again!

Our stay was wonderful! I was iffy at first bc of all the negative reviews on vrbo which is where I found this home but I would definitely stay again! The view was nice. The area to fish was even better. It was super hot so we caught most of our fish after 7. It did not have a smell atleast not when. We were there. It had everything we needed. We had a good night of grilling and fishing later that night. It’s quiet time after 10 but we obviously were up and not loud. Fished till dark. Lots of catfish that’s forsure. Give this home a chance you will not be disappointed!

We had a lovely time at the cabin. The kitchen has all the tools you need, including spices and cooking oils. Also, the coffee maker is a full size pot with a basket filter. Outdoor grill worked awesome and was very clean. We spent every morning and evening at beach and recommend some sort of shade for full enjoyment. My only recommendation to the property owners/managers is to have the windows cleaned. It’s too pretty a property to not see it all clearly. I do wish given the very large size of the bedroom that there was a bigger bed with a spring free mattress, but the bed there is fine. Overall, we would stay here again.

A lake house with history
Such a cool story the owners share on the history of this 1 bedroom, remodeled bunkhouse!
The home sits within steps to the lake. A bench overlooking the water was perfect for an enjoyable evening!
Area was quiet, we only saw boaters and deer.
House was very comfortable, thoughtfully remodeled to keep the appeal of its history and age. An additional “sunroom/tv room” added adequate space for comfort and allowed room for friends to visit us.
I recommend this home for a quiet and relaxing get a away for 2 and would absolutely book it again.

A great place to relax
We had a great time relaxing at Sea Horse Cove, the cabin was great and had everything we needed. It was nice to enjoy the sunsets in the evening. We were lucky enough to have a good breeze from the lake, which made dinning outside very nice. We spent a day on the lake on the Vanishing Texas Cruise and hiking on the trails at Canyon of the Eagles.

Amazing
The property is beautiful. Access to water on 3 sides and deer everywhere. I didn't see s better location anywhere else during our stay. There are plenty of million dollars homes around the lake, none of them had better location, views, wildlife, etc. than this. The house has a great story to it and although not very big, it has everything you need. I would buy this property if it was for sale. We'll be back for sure.

Fees
We loved the property but thought the fees were excessive at nearly the same amount as the 2 overnights. We also noticed that the fees changed to a higher amount from the first time we saw the listing and the second time when we booked the stay.

Great Getaway on the Lake
Cute little cabin on the lake. Wonderful location, very quiet. Really enjoyed seeing the deer in the backyard.

Perfect quite lakeside getaway!
The house is cozy, quaint, beautifully decorated, and perfect for two. The property is right on the water with sandy beach, rocky bank, big oaks, green grass, thick woodland & everything inbetween! Just be mindful if you have a large truck &/or boat because the dirt driveway is long, narrow & low-hanging.

Amazingly peaceful
Courageous sunset views over the lake, and nice updates have appeared to have been made as well. Highly recommend 😎

Peaceful, relaxing and just what we were hoping for. Truly "right on the water". Had the weather been more agreeable, we would have enjoyed the firepit! Was well stocked with towels, dishes and utensils, cookware. Convenient to local restaurants for pickup, grocery store, shopping and area attractions.
Unexpected nosy neighbor with camera and his wife with loud phone calls on their back porch.
Keep rice in salt shaker for humidity and maybe seat covers/cushions for dining chairs? Also, maybe install screen doors on new addition to enjoy natural breeze?
Overall, fantastic experience, replacing second getaway to Belton with return to this retreat!
