We were in town for a wedding and found the accommodation very central to town and its attractions, while still giving us the quiet time we needed.

Loved the farm vibe and the decor was beautiful. I loved waking up to the winter sun streaming through the door.
Not much to not like but a gas heater would have been nice as the cottage I was "upgraded" to did not have a fire place.

extra attention to supply light during load shedding as well as a generator

The room was excellent. The bed comfy.
Appliances and shower, all pleasing.
decor good,
1.
The distictly unpleasant demeanour of the Propriator[ress].
Took offence /defense greetings to a new level/
When inquired about the lack of electrictity which could have been a re reult of either Loadshedding or simply a main switch on Off
----reply-------are you not from South Africa????? We have laod shedding and I had had to interrupt a very Important meeting with a Minister to come and turn on the Generator for you!---
um,we were not the only folk staying there, we did pay for services and yes, we know about loadshedding.
She continued to berate us for using the words NO STRESS,we understand.
---I'm not stressed. I have 100 people under me and When I m stressed, YOU WILL KNOW IT.--
sheesh ok ok,we gulped.
I did do my typical Ali G number
--so, madam, Is this your Happy face to which we are are being treated to today?-
She has a bad name in the village as being aggressive, a black belt etc etc.
We then had the sheer luck of being afforded a cabin facing her within sight and worse still, within earshot, we had to close our door to have a stressfree house, meaning that all her frequent comings and goings were jarring elements undermining a peaceful retreat.

.The Hot Tub as advertised
was actually a round corrugated iron affair heated by a wood burner next to it.
---you want a hot bath?
Then you carry wood, load the burner, set fire to the wood, keep it going for 2-3 hours and voila, a hot bath as a reward for all your labours.---
just how we planned our holiday.
So. what did you do in Barrydale, Jaro?
O, I spent some time each day heating up 100 litres.
nah.

Lovely setting, good communication with owner
Former smoking room which smells of cold smoke, not super well equipped, 2 sleeping rooms not ideal for family (we were Informed on the day, but no other options)

Upon arrival, we were met by our host, Bertus. Super friendly, super helpful. Went out of his way to make our stay comfortable. Loads of information about Barrydale shared with us. He was always only a phone call away for the rest of our stay. Excellent.

Clean, comfortable and peaceful! A beautiful working farm in the heart of Barrydale. The wood fired hot tub was a bonus.
There were issues with the generator during loadshedding but it didn't bother us too much.

This is lovely accommodation, with great hosts who go out of their way to ensure a good stay. Nothing seems like too much trouble. The location is also perfect - you’re on a farm, yet close to town… we’ll definitely stay there again…
If we were to stay longer, I’d prefer one of the more private cottages - I’m not able to relax while others around us were busy working… but this is easy to remedy, and won’t stop me from staying again.

This was our third time spent at this Guesthouse which says it all. The host is very friendly, helpful, warm and will go the extra mile to make the stay as pleasant and rememberable as possible. The rooms have all the necessity's that are needed to spend a weekend away at The Blue Cow Guesthouse that is situated on the outer skirts of the small town, lovely to hear the church bells in the distance and nothing else. The breakfast that was served by the host to our front veranda was amazing and prepared with passion.
Unfortunately we cannot fault anything - all our expectations were met and we will certainly book this again !

it was most welcoming after a long day . Host was helpful and accommodating our needs and , although a self catering unit, coffee, tea & milk were on hand . Two very cosy cottages -table laid for us.
liked everything -a country setting and secluded for a small group.

the blue cow barn is a venue in old cape Dutch style. It is situated in a beautiful surrounding in the little place called Barrydale in the Karoo area.
The beds are comfortable and the room is decorated with love for details. The WiFi works constantly and is for free. The landlady is very friendly and tries to help.
It was difficult to find and the breakfast is served quite far away in a coffee shop. Barrydale is a but too small to stay there as there are not even the basic things to be bought - for example the nearest pharmacy is 78 km away. Barrydale only has a small supermarket.

Nice associated café with friendly staff.
Very peacefulandquiet location.
Wish we had stayed longer.
