Wow! What an amazing cottage, nestled in the most wonderful surroundings. Perched on the edge of Howden Dam means there’s lovely walks in all directions. The drive up to the house was great, taking in all the beautiful scenery.
The cottage itself was just perfect. The open plan lounge, diner & kitchen was a brilliant, sociable area. The log burner gave us a warm & cosy feel. The kitchen was well equipped, we had everything we needed to cook a Christmas dinner for 7 people.
The bedrooms were all lovely & our teenager loved the mezzanine. There’s 2 bathrooms & everything was sparkling clean.
The garden was lovely. Although we didn’t use them there was a large fire pit, pizza oven & smoker outside (& we’ll be sure to come back to stay again so we can make use of these).
If you’re looking for some peace & quiet, total relaxation in a beautiful cottage with the most wonderful walks then Beavers Croft is the perfect place.

Amazing Location
We absolutely loved our stay at Beaverscroft.
It’s a rustic but very relaxing cottage.
Just walking around the garden was enjoyable and it was a lovely surprise to find 2 little waterfalls within the grounds.
There are walking and cycling routes right on the doorstep.
Apart from a meal out one evening we had no need to go out of the area.
We hired cycles from the cycle centre which is close by and had a great day cycling round the 2 reservoirs.
We hope to return to Beaverscroft one day.

Perfect Winter getaway
Spent 3 nights at the lovely Beavers Croft and couldn’t have asked for any more from the property and location.
Beautiful views and walks to be had, very clean house well equipped with everything you need.
Comfy beds, cozy even through the evening.
Can’t wait to stay again in the summer when we can make use of the outdoor pizza oven ☺️

Stay at Beavers Croft
We were looking for a property that would have walls from the front door, and Beavers Croft does not disappoint! The barn is quite beautiful, in a perfect location that is quiet and relaxing! Everything you need is here, and the owner Ab who is a smashing guy will help you with any issues you may have! 10/10 rating from me!

Picture Perfect
We stayed for 2 nights in between Christmas and New Year and wished we booked for longer.
The house is in such a beautiful location and my family of 4 joined a friends family of 3 for some fun & relaxation which was available in abundance. We had recently flown in from the States and I couldn’t think of a more classic British accommodation, unless we stayed in a castle and that just sounds cold.
Ab was a great host and even though he was away himself he kept in touch via phone/text and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed.
The only thing I would suggest if you plan to cook up a storm whilst at Beavers Croft (as we did) is to bring some larger cooking pots.
We hope to come back to visit again some day when it’s warmer as the outside had so many things to enjoy as well!
Thank you Ab for letting us stay in your beautiful home.

Awesome Getaway
Definitely a stay we cannot find at our home country. Very homely, comfortable, and serene. Could have been more awesome if the Dam can be seen from inside the living room.

Beautiful property in beautiful place!
We had a great few days staying in Ab's lovely property. Ab was an attentive host, and the location was beautiful, as was the house. We made friends with the resident dogs, who are terrific with my one year old son. Ab also went out of his way to accommodate my son by bringing high chair and travel crib. My one caution would be that I could see the satellite internet being an issue if you needed to do video calls for work during your stay. Overall, highly recommend!

Just what we were looking for the first part of our trip, a quiet place in great scenery. Great host. Will definitely visit again.

Off-grid perfection
There are hardly words to describe what an amazing stay we had at Ab’s place. The house and the scenery are exquisite, and Ab is such a special host and human. We felt so welcome. Ab made sure we were as comfortable as we could possibly be. He went above and beyond to make out stay pure perfection.

Double wedding anniversary getaway and family get together
One family of 6 plus another couple had a fantastic experience at The Barn. Ab was a great host and we wanted for nothing. BEautiful Bedrooms and mezzanine bedroom are all very comfortable and the bathrooms both had nice eco toiletries. Massive Bath is Devine! You arrive, take stock of facilities, go to the supermarket (admittedly 16 miles away - though Ab says you can do a home delivery there) come back and you never want to leave :) we just managed with under worktop larder fridge, and separate freezer. Loads of socialising space inside and out and the grounds are a treat. Great recommended taxi service to get guests here from Bamford railway station (£20) and to take all 8 of us out for an evening meal (£25 each way for 8 guests to Bamford in minibus). A gorgeous place for family and friends who lived close by to come to see us for afternoon tea and to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and our friends' 29th wedding anniversary! Everyone agreed what an awesome venue it is, and everyone wants to return: no greater statement than that is there really! Ab is sincere in his desire to make your experience as perfect as possible and he asked for any suggestions that may make it better. I think The Barn will maintain high standards as he takes on board any guests' comments. It will will continue to wow and surpass expectations.
We enjoyed the outdoor patio that is new and the men loved the fire pit, and I think if we had stayed longer we would have been experimenting with the pizza oven and used the BBQ.
Be warned: you are nigh on 'off grid' here but for me that was part of its appeal! You have wifi within The Barn, (not outside) and no phone signal at all (bliss :D )
Would I recommend ? absolutely! so long as you were totally happy with off grid and wanted to properly escape. Escaping here from modern life is achievable surrounded by lovely gardens and grounds and walks in a beautiful area.
Perfect :)

Magical Christmas break
From the outset Ab was exemplary in dealing with enquiries and helpfully answering questions, and so willing to go above and beyond with offers to help.
The barn itself is quite simply more stunning than it looks in the photographs, and in keeping with its tasteful and creative decor was all decked out for Christmas with fully dressed and lit tree, lights around the stairs, kitchen and mezzanine and baubles on the deer's antlers.
The main living area is lovely and cosy - especially with the log burner going - and comfortable for the whole family, and the skylights let in plenty of light during the day. The large kitchen affords foodies plenty of space to get creative with locally-sourced ingredients (Chatworth farm shop is definitely worth a visit!) and there's an eclectic mix of cooking pots, pans, utensils and serving bowls etc.
The beds are very comfortable, the sheets pristine and high quality, towels clean and soft, and there were some nice toiletries in the two bathrooms. It's sooo quiet and the bedrooms sooo comfortable, that you get a fabulously good night's sleep!
The satellite-internet service worked really well for browsing, emails and telephony using Facetime-Audio and Skype (it's true there's absolutely no mobile network reception); and we had no issues with the off-the-grid heating, hot water or electricity supply.
Ab has now completed an upgrade to the patio area - which features a fire pit, wood-fired pizza oven, huge barbecue range and a smoker! We definitely need to return to make use of these! And there's also now a cinema room in the outhouse!
On practicalities: The barn is about a 12-minute drive from the turn off the A57 Snake Pass. The road is two-way as far as the visitor centre and then a single lane for another 2.5 miles, so you have to find a passing place if someone's coming the other way. In snow you would definitely need to have a 4WD vehicle to get there (we had one on a stand-by cancellable booking with Enterprise in Chesterfield just in case!).
But remoteness is also part of the appeal: There are beautifully scenic walks around the reservoirs - and we managed short walks alongside the Howden Reservoir above the barn with elderly relatives who are less mobile - and loads more to do nearby with the more active.
All this made for a Christmas week in a gorgeously cosy and welcoming home in a stunning unique setting, that will live long in our memories. Thank you so much Ab - it's my intention to return!

Thank you very much Ab for such a wonderful stay. This lovely barn was warm, cosy and very much well decked out with plenty of kitchen utensils/board games/books and a practically unlimited supply of wood for the fire! The beds (even the gallery bed) were extremely comfortable and the location was of course stunning. Ab rang me the day before I arrived to give me the information needed for our stay, as he wasn't around to greet us on our arrival. Would highly recommend this place. Best wishes, Shan and family

Beautiful
We stayed here last weekend with family and friends and could have easily stayed longer! The landscape around the property is breathtaking and the barn itself is beautiful. Very clean and has everything you need. The main thing we loved about this property is the privacy as Beaverscroft was the only property in this part of the park. There isn't any phone signal which actually gave us a nice break from our everyday busy lives! This property is perfect and we look forward to staying here again next year!

Remote and Peaceful location
Lovely house in beautiful location. Would have had 5 stars if builders hadn't been in working on patio for this property 3 days of our stay. We couldn't sit outside and enjoy the scenery which would have been very much a part of our holiday with my mum. A bit disappointing we didn't have this to ourselves as expected.

Brilliant Holiday
We had the most amazing time here at Beaverscroft. Plenty of room for the size of our party. Clean, comfortable and homely. Ab, Pippa and Paul were the most friendly and helpful people (and dog!!) you can imagine. We would recommend this as the perfect place to stay.
Beautiful scenery and walks. Close to pubs, restaurants, villages and towns. Lots to do and see.

Amazing stay!!!! Thank you, Ab!
This was exactly what we were looking for and what we needed. We were traveling as two families with 4 teenage boys (ages 14-19). Beavers Croft was our 2nd stay after 6 days in Bath and before our 3rd stay in London. We had plenty of room for all 8 of us and all the accommodations were up to date and comfortable. The real gem is the history of the Croft and dams, the hiking trails, quietness, and our hosts. We needed a period to relax after Bath and before London and we got it. If you are looking for a quiet place that is away from everything (but not too far) and you feel like you own it and all the park around you, this is where you want to stay. The grounds are well manicured and comfortable. You can access hiking trails right from the house or take a short drive or bike ride. Hike to town or pubs. Our boys are runners and they felt very comfortable going out on their own to get their miles. Ab and Paul (the awesome and super friendly Boston Terrier) were the best and most gracious hosts. Pippa, we would have loved to meet you and share stories, but we know you had bigger things ahead of you during our stay. Beavers Croft was definitely a highlight of our stay and we would love to go back. Ab, thanks for everything! Jim, Denise, Todd, Tami, Adam, Evan, Zach, and Jacob.
Suggestions: Find out in advance what the house offers for food, drink, appliances, and hygiene products and shop before you arrive because you won't want to leave anytime soon.

We have just got back from celebrating my mums 50th over Christmas and NY at Beavers Croft and it was amazing! The barn is in the most stunning location next to the Howden Dam, with loads of walks available from the doorstep. It was beautiful, comfortable and fully equipped with everything we needed. We spent the majority of the time around that beautiful fire! While there is no phone signal, there is WiFi which worked well for us. The nearest towns are Hathersage and Bamford, within a 10-15 minute drive, where there are pubs and tea rooms. Big thanks to Sarah and Steve for making us feel welcome, and also helping us through the snow! A real gem and the perfect spot to get away from it all, would highly recommend!
