About this house rental
A lovely restored village house with walled garden and heated pool in Aumes, an authentic southern French village with quiet squares leading to countryside walks and cycling. Sleeps 8 in main house and 2 in self contained guest accommodation. 5 minutes from the historic town of Pezenas with famous food market, cafe's and stylish shops. The villlage is surrounded by vineyards and wine domaines. Near to great beaches and rivers for watersports, picnics and swimming. Close to stunning city of Montpellier and 4 major airports.
The house has been thoughtfully restored with a mixture of original features and high quality materials and is in a lovely setting within a quiet square. There is an air con unit on each floor of the house. The high spec kitchen with an adjoining utility room leads on to a comfy sitting room with original stone fireplace and woodburner, LCD TV, satellite etc. For remote workers, fast, fibre optic WiFi has recently been installed. Aumes has a tranquil atmosphere and being on a hill gives lovely views across the surrounding vineyards and wooded garrigue. The established garden is sheltered by stone walls. The covered pergola has a stone outdoor dining table for 8 and L shaped soft sofa seating for relaxing on. This area faces a tiled 8 x 4 pool with large gentle steps, perfect for children or the elderly. The pool can now be heated during the cooler months (please enquire). A second pergola is located at the other end of the garden for additional shade. There is a double sun lounger, ideal for a siesta and an outdoor shower. Within the garden is a self contained guest gite with living room, first floor bedroom and a walk in en-suite shower room, own patio, satellite Lcd TV with a fully equipped kitchen. Ideal if you are sharing with other families, grandparents or if any members wish to have extra privacy. There are cushioned sun loungers and deckchairs for relaxing by the pool and plenty of space for sunbathing. The balcony from the main bedroom also has two chairs for catching the evening sun with a nice view of surrounding countryside. The garden faces south and enjoys tranquility and peace. The mosaic tiled pool has shallow steps and a hand rail for ease of access.

Great property and would definitely stay there again
3.0
A lovely property in a charming village. However, I wouldn’t recommend the property for young children because of the tricky stairs. The top floor is a complete no-go and quite dangerous with a gap in the handrail.
When we arrived it appeared as though the property hadn’t been used for a while. It wasn’t particularly clean and the garden was a mess. We stayed for three weeks and were told a gardener would be coming but none appeared. There were unsightly weeds everywhere some of which we ended up removing ourselves.
The cushions for the sunloungers were well used and quite dirty.
The kitchen was well equipped but all the knives were blunt.
We had to get maintenance out twice to fix the plumbing in the main house and the separate gite.
We hired bikes but the roads around the village particularly in to Pézenas were busy and we ended up hardly using them.
The pool was also tricky as there wasn’t much space around about it and because the garden is so overgrown it was constantly covered in leaves and insects.
Overall whilst we loved the area where there is lots to see and do, sadly we were disappointed with the accommodation.

A great family house with lovely outdoor space and heated pool. Good location to venture into the countryside by foot or car. So much to do in the area. The hosts suggested activities were really helpful and we really enjoyed our week in this lovely property.

This house is set in a small French village with incredible views and a pool that is perfect for cooling down or relaxing by. The bedrooms were well presented and the dining areas were lovely areas to gather. There was also a suggestion booklet of places to visit which was well received as we had hire cars and were able to visit beautiful lakes, beaches and caves during our stay. There are many quaint streets to explore and one evening we had the joy of watching locals gather in the square while listening to a band. The local town Pezenas is definitely worth a visit with many shops and restaurants to explore in the evenings. If you're looking for an authentic French experience this is the ideal place to stay. You won't be disappointed to wake up and look out at the views.

During the whole process Julie was very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The information pack prior to arrival was great and very insightful. The house was very comfortable for 6 adults and 2 under 2s and the pool was a great 'playground' for all. The shades areas were lovely for lunches and relaxing out of the sun. The Gite was very comfortable with the kitchen/livingroom area and the bedroom and bathroom upstairs. The village is very pretty, it has a playground and a shop for various items incl coffee to drink in the square. There are several outing destinations within a short /reasonable drive. I would highly recommend this as a holiday home.

Unique property in a splendid location. Wonderful Honeysuckle has downside of slightly messy pool area.
Second visit, unlikely to be the last!

We stayed for two weeks over Easter. Gorgeous townhouse right on village square. Easy parking right outside. Entry via a little door in the garden wall. Enclosed courtyard with lovely big pool surrounded by planting. Super outside dining area big enough to entertain another family. House spacey and comfortable. Decor simple and stylish. Bedrooms large, beds incredibly comfortable. Kitchen well equipped with huge fridge freezer. Swimming in pool with church steeple and big plane tree in square overhead. Lots of pool toys for kids. Manager helpful and responsive. Julie provided loads of extra info that was really useful. Felt very welcomed (unlike many corporate rentals in the UK). Even had a holiday cat to delight of kids. Great area with loads to do. Village shop great for bread and croissants, big Carrefour close by in Pezenas. We had a really great time and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Wonderful time in Aumes
Great property with a swimming pool that was much appreciated by our family as the temperature was very warm- in the mid to high 30s Celsius some days.
Lots of room for the family. Most had never been to France before.
The Owners were very good to us and responded quickly to any questions about the property we had.

We had a wonderful week. The house is beautifully situated with plenty to do in the local area to amuse children and grand parents alike. The list of recommended activities was so helpful and we adored exploring this beautiful part of France. The house exceeded our expectations. We would definitely be keen to return.

Relax in Aumes

Wonderful holiday
We had a wonderful holiday in France in Julies house. The pictures show very well, what the house looks like. We were not satisfied with the air conditioning. There is one on each floor and ideally there should be one in each room. We think our check in was late 5 PM, and we had to check out at 10 AM. I do not know what goes on in those 7 hours. The kitchen equipment was a bit limited - only just enough knives and glasses. All the ideas you get for what to do are very good, but they are not quite realistic. Julie is a conscious host, she always replies to your inquiries.

An amazing place which fully lived up to our expectations. We had an amazing week in this beautiful house in the middle of the small village of Aumes. Plenty of space and a large pool. Everything worked well, from booking, to checkin etc. I can highly recommend this house and Julie & Jeff as hosts.
Thank you.

Julie was an amazing host, very responsive to messages etc and the house was lovely. The surrounding area also lovely to and the food truck at cote Mas is definitely worth a visit for lunch. The kitchen is well supplied and we had some fabulous meals in and out in the surrounding area. Thanks Julie

Nice house on a quiet en beautifull location
Very nice property with a nice and very good equiped kitchen. Nice bedrooms with good working airco's. The garden is tiny. Actually there is mainly a pool with 2 terraces and on de side of the pool there is enough space for sunbeds. This is not really a problem especially if you think of the central location in the village, right across the church. The surroundings are very beautifull and well maintained. Most of the surroundings are occupied by vineyards with nice little roads to take a stroll.
We had a wonderfull time and would like to go back some day!

We spent a week in Julie and Jeff's lovely house in Aumes. It was perfect for 2 families of 4 and we would highly recommend it. The house itself was comfortable and very well appointed. The recommendations of things to do were really appreciated. We enjoyed 2 days at the beach, a visit to the Medieval Hill top town St Guilhem le Desert (use the park and ride!) and a swim and a kayak in the river. We also enjoyed exploring the old town of Pézenas and the Friday evening food & wine event that happens throughout August. All in all a great holiday. We would happily come again.

South of France holiday home
This is a charming, typical for the area, French property. In the sleepy village of Aumes, five minutes away from the historic Pezenas, with all the restaurants and facilities you may need. We drove to the scenic hills in 40 minutes and the beach in 30. The courtyard has a 6' wall so is very private and the pool was big enough for the seven of us staying. The house is furnished as if the owners live there and is in very good condition throughout. The one bedroom annex at the rear of the courtyard has lots of character and gives those staying there a little privacy from those in the main house. The house has all the things you may need for a stay including good outside seating covered and open areas, a BBQ, A TV with sat channels (although we almost never used it) and plenty of space. The kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, utensils etc. The bedrooms and bathrooms are in very good condition and most importantly, clean. I would happily recommend staying here.

Great place - we came back!
We've been here twice now, two families sharing (eight of us altogether). Had a great time both times and hope to come back again one day. Perfectly sized property for us, clean, spacious and well equipped. Lovely old house, which has been upgraded inside. Village is very peaceful! Pezenas is very close by for evenings out, as are several beach resorts and inland lakes/rivers for day trips. Would highly recommend.

Excellent property and location
I stayed at julies house in January this year with my daughter for a weeks break. The house was perfect for us to spend time together, lovely views, quiet setting with some nice walks from the house. The nearby markets are great, the french really know their produce, and we really enjoyed shopping for our meals followed by a coffee and cake at a cafe. Although it was out of season and the pool was not opened the walled garden was very sheltered from wind and was always sunny so we still were able to eat “alfresco” for lunch under the pergola. It did get chilly at night but sitting by the log burner in the main living room with the underfloor heating on was very cosy. It really is a beautiful house, just a lovely place to be, an authentic french house in an authentic french village. I would imagine it is lovely in the summer with the pool up and running. We were told the pool is now heated so watch this space. Downsides, well we did overdo the red wine a bit but, oh well!!!

Amazing Highly Recommend
We stayed in the summer with 2 families plus my parents. This is a very special house and we all really enjoyed our stay. My parents absolutely loved it, we gave them the master bedroom and i can still see them sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine watching us in the pool. My son came with his fiance so they had the gite (well away from us!) which was self contained with all the facilities of the house it was very comfortable with a lovely patio outside the main doors. I really recommend this house especially for sharing families as it is easy for everyone to have their own space when they want it. Everything else was perfect, beaches, villages were pretty and the owners provide a helpful booklet with a list of local recommendations. We tried some of these and they were all great. Our highlight was a wonderful meal at the Le St Barth restaurant, in Marseillan. The house is in a perfect setting and we liked being in the village centre rather than isolated outside so we could walk to the shop and enjoy the village atmosphere. Their is very little traffic and we felt comfortable to let the children cycle around the village on their own which they loved, they even made some French friends. When we did manage to drag the children from the pool, the countryside surrounding the village is stunning with lovely views from the house and garden. The owners indicate some walks from the house and i really recommend these for the whole family. My other recommendations are the market in Pezenas and a day trip to the wonderful city of Montpellier. All in all a fantastic holiday, I am sure we will be back.

Fabulous
Had a really enjoyable family holiday at this house in Aumes for October half term. We were blessed with the weather and were able to spend most days enjoying the new recently installed heated pool which my teenage boys loved. The house itself has been sympathetically restored by its current owners and benefits from a nice big modern kitchen and stylish interior throughout. There is a wood burning stove for chillier evenings which makes the lounge area cosy and warm. The house is well located for all major airports and motorway access but the village itself is traditional Southern France architecture and is very peaceful. The garden is very sheltered and sunny and it was a real treat to be able to eat outside so late in the year. We did venture out when we could pull ourselves away from the pool and took the boys Karting one day to nearby Marseillan Plage where they tested their skills on a well designed track. Afterwards we went to a lovely seafood restaurant at the Port of Meze and enjoyed traditional Moules and Frites. The weekly market at Montagnac is worth a visit on Friday mornings. Pezenas is the nearest historic town which has good facilities including supermarkets and local shopping. We enjoyed a coffee sitting in the sunshine. All in all a wonderful place to stay and I would love to come back for a longer period in the summer.

A great time had by all!
9 of us (two young families and grandmother!) stayed at this beautiful property in August for 2 weeks and it more than met our expectations. Set in a lovely village very close to some great beaches we had a fantastic holiday. The listing description was very accurate regarding the location and facilities, with the property very well maintained and clean. The owner was incredibly helpful before and during our stay and gave us some wonderful advice on places/beaches to visit and restaurants to try. The area itself is a treat. Set in a peaceful town among the vineyards we either relaxed during the day by the pool or took a short trip to one of the many beaches nearby. BBQ’s in the evening under the terrace or a trip to the old town of Pezenas or one of the Port towns was a perfect way to unwind. We would absolutely recommend this property to our friends.

Disappointing
This could be a lovely house, if it had a bit more work done to bring it up to standard and a good clean!! We stayed for 2 weeks with another family. We were very disappointed for the following reasons.
BEDROOM 1 : Needs a "Juliet balcony" or similar on the second window, extremely dangerous to have a full length widow opening at a height without one.
2nd FLOOR STAIRCASE : For safety this needs a handrail, not just for children but adults too!
BATHROOM (first floor): When we went to empty the bin there was a used cotton bud on the floor from previous occupants!
Also the shower was extremely slow to drain which meant we were stood ankle deep in water and needed to stop the shower after 10 mins before it flooded over the top of the tray!
The bathrooms were well presented but we would have liked toilet roll holders and locks on the doors.
KITCHEN: Worktops and the table were filthy. When we wiped them with a cloth, the cloth was black, so we had to thoroughly clean the kitchen before we could cook the first evening! The fridge also needed a good clean and we found unwashed cups in the cupboard.
The cupboard under the sink absolutely stunk and was covered in black sludge.
GUEST GITE : A wardrobe or somewhere to hang clothes is needed.
We wanted to use the sofa bed one day when one of the children were feeling unwell, but when opened it appeared to be mice droppings on it!
The walls in the kitchen were only half painted.
There was a lovely dining table, but no chairs, so wasn't much use!
CLEANING/TOWELS :
There was very little cleaning done before our arrival.
Pool towels were not provided and the beds and bath towels weren't changed at the end of our first week, despite mentioning this in the details.
PATIO AREA : The barbecue was filthy and needed to be scrubbed clean before we could use it!
The cushions on the patio furniture were tatty and dirty. There was no day bed.
THE GARDEN : This was very disappointing, very untidy and neglected, (nothing like the pictures), with a hose pipe slung untidily across the scruffy overgrown, patchy grass and bare earth!
A group of local young children banging on the door asking to use the pool most days became quite annoying.
The church bells next to the house chime throughout the night so don't expect to get much sleep. If you are lucky enough to sleep you will get an early morning call at 6am with approx 67 chimes!!
AUMES : A bit of a ghost town, a small shop, but no bar!

Relaxing Break
I stayed at this house with my daughter and a group of friends during the Whitsun half term week. The weather was glorious and we were able to swim in the pool and relax in the lovely enclosed garden. There is a great patio and seating area just outside the kitchen where I enjoyed my coffee every morning before anyone else was awake. The house is lovely and very comfortable, it is a very traditional village house which has been completely modernised to a high standard with a large kitchen and long dining table. The kitchen has everything you need with high end appliances and plenty of preparation areas which was important to me as I love to cook. A thoughtful basket was left for us with a welcome bottle of wine.
We didn't explore the area too much as we had come to unwind but there is plenty to see and do for all ages. We did visit Pezenas market on the Saturday which is a must especially for foodies like me and we spent a lazy Sunday at the beach nearby. Our only disappointment was that the bikes in the garage were out of action due to punctures and our younger kids would have liked to have cycled the village with the other kids as there are virtually no cars.
A lovely time was had by all.

Absolutely fantastic place to stay
I can't recommend this house enough! The house and pool are lovely and it's in an ideal spot for any kind of holiday you could wish for. It’s close to the city, beaches, market towns and great for outdoor activities too. We explored Montpellier for a bit of city life, Pezenas with its market and lovely buildings and the town of Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert which has lovely boutiques and a fabulous square, cathedral and hillside walk. We hiked to the monastery ruins and then came down and had breakfast in the square. We explored the lovely shops and drove five minutes to the river where we swam and picnicked all day before having dinner back up in the town. Such a pretty place. There is also kayaking along the river which we would have done if we’d had another day there as it one of our favourite days out. We spent time lazing by the pool which is only slightly overlooked by the house next door, the occupants of which we never actually saw as their shutters were closed the whole time! We ate and drank delicious food and wine from the markets and topped up at the huge supermarket nearby. The house itself is spacious and beautifully refurbished and decorated. There is a folder the owners have created for their guests which contains many more activities and places to eat and we wished we had a couple of weeks more to stay. The contact we had with the owners was always easy and courteous and they are always willing to answer any questions we had. We are planning to come back with the whole family (kids, teens and grand-parents!) and friends too as the main house has four bedrooms, two with double beds and two with two single beds in each, and there is also a separate self-contained abode which we could have hired too. We stayed for a week and were not ready to leave!

A great place to stay!
We really enjoyed our stay at this property.
The property itself has been wonderfully restored by its owners and has all of the facilities and so much more required for a very comfortable stay.
The village of Aumes is very quaint with a small shop whose new owner is extremely helpful with tips on what to do and where to eat and will provide you with fresh bread everyday if required.
She even invited us to her “opening party” where we were provided with wine and nibbles and had the opportunity to meet and chat with many of the locals, many of whom are British and have lived in France for many, many years.
The main town of Pezenas is about a five minute drive away and has plenty of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants to keep you entertained, all of which were very accommodating to our boxer dog George!
We didn’t travel too much during our stay here, just a few visits to the beaches and towns as recommended by the owners in their information pack which is to be found in the house itself.
Everything you could ever need to see or do is so close by so there isn’t the need to move too far from the house, but even if you did wish to do so, the road links are very good to Aumes.
I have no hesitation in recommending a stay at this property, it was everything we had hoped for and so much more….didn’t want to leave!
