Tucked away on a quiet shingle track, amongst an eclectic mix of homes, is this stylish seaside cottage. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, it makes the perfect base to explore this enchanting stretch of coastline.
'Seakale Cottage' is located in the heart of Rye Harbour village, yet only 2 miles from the enchanting, medieval town of Rye.
The cottage is arranged over three floors, accommodating up to 6 guests.
Seakale is dog-friendly and up to two dogs are very welcome to stay with no additional pet fees.
The cottage has been decorated in keeping with its coastal setting, together with quirky vintage finds. On cooler nights, simply throw a few logs in the wood burner for that cosy cottage feel. White-washed floors and plantation shutters add to the 'beach house' feel, together with far-reaching views of the nature reserve, river and sea. The living area is open plan, with a wood-burning stove and Smart TV. Adjoining this is a spacious dining area seating up to 6 adults, with doors that lead out to the garden. Open to the dining area is a well-equipped kitchen. The kitchen is a very efficient space with all the appliances you would need.
On the first floor is the master bedroom with a king-sized bed, double wardrobe and chest of drawers. There is a family-sized bathroom with marble-topped twin sinks, and a spacious, deep bath with an overhead shower.
On the top floor are two twin bedrooms, with two single beds in each room, one with a blackout blind, making it ideal for young children. Both bedrooms have a chest of drawers and hanging pegs/space. The staircase is fitted with a retractable stairgate at the top of the stairs.
To the rear of the cottage is a long private garden that is child/dog-friendly, with an outside tap and hosepipe, handy for washing off muddy/sandy paws. There is outdoor furniture seating up to 6 adults and a Weber charcoal BBQ.
Attached to Seakale is a lockable barn providing plenty of storage for bikes or sporting equipment, such as a windsurfer.
FOR THE 'LITTLE PEOPLE' We have tried to think of everything to make a stay with little ones as easy and child-friendly as possible. You will find 2 travel cots, 2 stairgates (one fixed at top of 2nd staircase), bed rail, highchair, booster seat, plastic cups, plates & cutlery, fireguard, toddler step, toilet training seat, potty, and anti-slip bath mats, perfect for weekend visits when you want to travel light. PLEASE NOTE: The staircases at Seakale are wooden and we are unable to fit a stair gate at the top of the first staircase due to the design of the staircase. There is a fixed stairgate at the top of the 2nd staircase and a pressure-fitting gate fixed at the ground floor level.
PARKING: There is private parking for 1 car on the shingle area in front of the attached barn, although an estate car might find the space too tight. There is also free parking available on the main village street, which is just a short walk away.
PLEASE NOTE: The property may not be suitable for elderly or infirm guests, due to the wooden staircases, a small step from the reception area into the kitchen and access to the shower, which is over a large, deep bath.
Tram Road leads into a short section of unmade, shingle road, before reaching Seakale. The cottage can be accessed by driving very slowly through this section, especially during wet weather, when there can be surface water. This might not be suitable for very low vehicles.
Just a stone's throw from the property is the 800 acre Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, with paths endlessly crisscrossing in the directions of Rye, Winchelsea, Camber Castle and the beach. It provides an idyllic escape from the crowds at Camber Sands during the summer months. Here you will find outstandingly beautiful landscapes, whatever the season, with pools and lagoons and wide-open skies, perfect for birdwatchers, artists, dog walker, ramblers and cyclists alike. It's the ideal place to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Lovely, quiet property in good location. Tricky to find in the dark!

'Seakale' is a beautiful and deceptively spacious cottage with lots of character and a seaside theme. Rye Nature Reserve is on its doorstep which has a fabulous stony beach where it is safe to swim. It also overlooks Camber Sands which is a short drive away, and Rye, Dungeness and Hastings are only a 30 min trip. The unmade private road up to the cottage is rather tricky to navigate but adds to the charm of area. Massive skies with lots of nature - a real antidote to city life.

We had a great week in Rye, the cottage is wonderful- comfy beds, great shower, cosy but plenty of room for the 6 adults in our group. The kitchen is very ‘compact’ but very well equipped, enough plates, cutlery etc when we had friends over to eat (10 of us in total)
Our first time in the area, and lots of places to visit. We loved Rye, and fantastic to walk out of the cottage and onto the nature reserve. We made trips out to Camber Sands, Battle, Hastings Old town, Sissington Castle Gardens and Dungerness.
just to note, as described by the owner, you need to take care driving on the track leading to the property- the track was in dreadful condition, huge holes! When we arrived there had been heavy rain and so we didn’t realise how deep they were until we had scraped the bottom of the car!
4.7
The cottage is wonderfully cosy, we especially liked having the wood burner for the winter nights. Having the sea and the nature reserve so close was ideal for walks from the door. Very nice for a weekend getaway with the kids.

The property was perfect for us. Not much in Rye harbour but we had a lovely meal and it is clearly a popular area for dog walkers so would recommend to people with dogs. Lovely walks etc.

Ideal well resourced and quiet, comfortable cottage for our family group to spend Christmas and visit locally. The two dogs enjoyed the garden and walks to the beach and around the nature reserve.
Very friendly locality with good pub food and cafe in walking distance.
Rye is a very nice town with all you might want.
Definitely worth a visit.

Fabulous getaway
Delightful cottage stay, beautiful decor, very comfy and well equipped. Good base for walking and exploring Rye Harbour area, peaceful, quiet setting.

Pros: delightful cottage, amazing location by the reserve with far reaching views, good bedding and beds.
Cons: not as clean as we had hoped it would be. Bath and beds fine, but a few mugs at the back of kitchen cupboards were , dining table still had remains of the previous occupants’ crumbs on it, sofas though comfortable had several marks on the covers and looked a bit grubby, and there was dried on tomato sauce on one of the dining chairs and coffee table that the cleaner had also missed. With Covid still about, deep cleans should still really be happening.
Still, with such a lovely cottage we were prepared to overlook this, until the noise started: the direct neighbour (thankfully away for most of our stay) returned from their holiday the day before we left. We had been emailed the cottage info pack a week before our trip, and that’s when the owner mentioned that the neighbour’s teenage son practises drums for Music ‘A’ Level and that they had agreed to minimise disruption to guests by always playing at a set time they felt would be acceptable, and for only 45 mins max.
We had booked our trip a year before, but hadn’t heard about this drumming until we were due to arrive.
We are both key workers (NHS & school) so this was our first proper trip since the pandemic.
We love Rye Harbour (been before) and were so looking forward to finding the perfect cottage we could return time after time, as well as some much needed R&R, so to be told of drumming practise next door made us rather nervous, as we were both exhausted when we came on holiday after what has been a long and tiring year.
We asked if the drumming could be earlier than what the owners had arranged, because we usually cook on holiday and the time they had suggested would have been when we were home.
The day the neighbours returned from their trip, it was raining hard, so we were home packing.
When the drumming started we all (teenage daughter included) nearly jumped out of our skins. This is a little, period fisherman’s cottage and they are not soundproofed by any means.
The noise was horrific, it went through every single room in the cottage and after enduring 15 minutes of it, we decided to go out for a walk in the rain, until it had stopped.
It just isn’t acceptable to have to listen to this at any time during a holiday really, which is a real shame as the cottage and location are beautiful, but frankly who needs this stress when on holiday?

We loved the cottage and the harbour. And the long, leisurely walk along the edge of the Nature Reserve to the stony beach was really pleasant. Of the places to eat we liked Bosun's Bite and the Nature Reserve's Visitor Centre, also Avocet for coffee and cake. Altogether we'd give Rye Harbour and Sea Kate 10/10. Thank you.

Sparkling clean, lovely seaside inspired cottage. Well equipped and comfortable. Nice extras too. Parking and road definitely a bit interesting in a big car!

Seakale was even better than in the photos. It is a very clean, spacious cottage down a quiet road and felt like you were really away from it all.
The decor is very beachy with shells and my favourite thing was the seagull sign that said ‘I want your chips’.
We had many walks to the beach, a lovely evening at the local pub and then back to Seakale for wine and cheese.
We walked into Rye which was easy but after a boozy lunch, we got a cab back which was very cheap!
I would love to come back to Rye but mostly Seakale. I highly recommend it!

Seakale is tastefully decorated, reflecting a modern seaside theme throughout. We had a very relaxing and comfortable fortnight! We all slept well on the comfortable beds in the spacious and light bedrooms. The bathroom was very well equipped with a fantastic shower. Lovely touch supplying hand wash, shampoo, etc, plus milk and a gorgeous cake on our arrival. Thank you!
We brought our little dog and can say this house is very well suited for dogs. There were dog biscuits, a lead and a safe enclosed garden. Jane has communicated excellently with us and is very pleasant to deal with.
This holiday home is in a quiet area with fantastic birdwatching in the nearby nature reserve. Fantastic dog walks on your doorstep, in a sweet little seaside village. Nearby, Rye is quaint and beautiful. Five stars overall!!

Perfect place to escape
Wonderfully equipped house, right by the nature reserve, beach and pub. Dogs had a blast and we got to relax nicely as it was nice and quiet. I also went for a run in the nature reserve - lovely!
Very dog friendly area and the house is dog friendly.
The house has everything you could need whether you have children or fur babies. The correspondence with Jane was exceptional.
Thank you !

Fabulous
It's so lovely to find somewhere which welcomes dogs and Sea Kale was a great find. It's a very stylish cottage and more like a boutique hotel. We had everything we needed and more. Comfy beds with luxurious linens, large bathroom, well equipped kitchen and a fab location so close to many walks. Having a pub just around the corner was the icing on the cake. Best of all, the cottage was cool and it was easy to create shade for us and our dogs on the hottest days. Communication with Jane has been exemplary and she was very understanding and caring when we had to leave early. Discovering Rye and the local area was a revelation and left us wanting to see and do more, so I hope we can return one day. I was glad though that we had not travelled with elderly parents or young children as even we found the stairs steep as you would expect in a traditional cottage full,of original features and character.

holiday
Had a great time, weather was a bonus. My only input would be nice to have a couple of sun loungers.

Lovingly cared for, comfortable cottage
We couldn't fault Seascale. The attention to detail was quite wonderful, from the beautiful decor, to the linen, to the extras like coffee pods and dog treats. Jane has a lovely home and we much appreciated her help in making our stay very special. There are numerous doorstep walks and lovely places like Rye and Winchlesea to explore. The National Trust properties of Bodium castle and Sissinghurst were well worth a visit as both were within a 40 minute drive. We would highly recommend Seakale.
4.7
What a gem!
Jane, we were delighted with Seakale as the venue for our little reunion. A beautifully kept cottage with 'all the comforts of home' and few thoughtful touches to make us feel welcome. We enjoyed exploring Rye and the nature reserve during our gloriously sunny weekend and came away feeling fully restored. Hope we can visit again before too long!
4.7
Really lovely cottage in an equally lovely location.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Seakale and would love to return sometime. We loved the decor, how well equipped it was, how near the beach and the myriad little touches that made our stay relaxing from the moment we arrived. Jane is a very friendly and efficient host and Rye Harbour is a beautiful area with the huge advantage (for us) of allowing dogs on the beach even in summer months. We would unreservedly recommend a stay here.

A lovely cottage beautifully laid out.
We had a lovely stay. Very relaxing. Jane had left lots of little extras to make our experience more enjoyable. Thank you.

Mini-break at Sea Kale
The cottage was very comfortable, clean, well-equipped and tastefully decorated. The extra touches such as the wood burner and wood provided, as well as the milk and cake on arrival and the other essential supplies, were all gratefully received. The location is perfect for walks and birdwatching, as it is close to the Rye, Hastings and Dungeness Reserves. A great place to spend quality time with the family.

The Perfect Cottage
We stayed in December for my partners birthday and it was surprise trip for him and needless to say he was thrilled! This place is great, you instantly feel at home as soon as you walk through the door. The addition of a lovely Christmas tree really was a great touch. The cottage is stocked with everything you would need, it was clean and fresh too.
The nature reserve was just beautiful, we went for a walk on quite a misty day and it just added to the incredible landscape, I suggest taking some binoculars to spot some of the incredible birds.
Jane the owner has been nothing but helpful and I recommended you read the welcome pack and definitely take a quick friendly taxi ride in to Rye and have a few drinks and dinner, The Grill at the George was lovely, as was The Mermaid Inn!
We will be back for more :)

Beautifully decorated, clean, bright home
The cottage was ideal and we loved the location. The attention to detail was impressive! Close to the beach and close to a bus service into Rye. A pub within walking distance was nice at the end of a long day. Our only complaint was trying to navigate a mini van/mpv - in the narrow drive-way and parking.
4.7
property internally was superb parking for 2 cars was problematical but not an issue.
The cottage was ideal for the 4 adults and 2 year old. The kitchen was well stocked only fault was the tin opener did not work properly. The beds were comfortable and the linen superb. The cottage is situated perfectly ( camber sands / Rye etc). The customer service from the owner was world class and could not be faulted. There were nice touches like provision of stair gate, spades for the beach, complimentary items.
Marinos fish and chips is highly recommended.
