What makes Puglia special : Put simply, Puglia remains one of Italy’s best-kept secrets. Puglia, ancient Apulia, is a land of sun, sea, vines, and olive groves, and has a wealth of natural, historical and cultural heritage that makes it one of the most exciting areas of Italy. Like most visitors before you, once discovered you will fall in love with the people, the food and wine, the beaches, the whitewashed “Trulli” towns and the rolling countryside with its olive/orange/lemon groves and vineyards. Puglia is right there at the heart of it all yet is still unspoiled by the ravages of mass tourism. It is a place where the local shopkeepers and the villagers still smile as they greet you. With over 300 days sunshine each year it has a slower but endearing pace of life with the siesta as part of the daily routine. After a long lazy lunch and a glass of “Primitivo”, the silence falls until late afternoon when the cobbled streets come to life and there is a hubbub in even the smallest villa
Food and local cuisine: Puglia’s micro-climate produces some of Italy’s tastiest food, for years appreciated only by the locals, but now a hot destination for gourmet travelers. Puglia produces much of Europe’s pasta, presses most of Italy’s olive oil, catches the bulk of the country’s fish and is the sixth biggest wine-making region in the world. Specialities of the region are orecchiette, the small ear-shaped pasta, braciole al sugo (stuffed veal parcels in a fresh tomato sauce), puree di fave (broad bean puree) and cheese lovers will be in their element with the selection of fresh mouth watering ricotta and mozzarella, burrata (Puglia’s famous cheese with a creamy interior) provolone and Cacioricotta. Fresh fish is in abundance and you will see a selection of oyster, mussels, octopus and even sea urchin dishes on most menus. Pugliese people love to share their wonderful cuisine and most restaurants serve a range of antipastas giving you the opportunity to sample all these delicious dishes
General Information: Puglia gets close to 300 days sunshine a year with the warm weather starting in April and going right through until the end of October. The hottest months are July and August but with two seas around the area the air does not feel too oppressive during these months, especially at Villa Sofia which benefits from a gentle sea breeze at all times. Spring and autumn is glorious- sunny and warm with wild flowers in abundance. Italians are unashamedly devoted to celebrating everything Italian - religion, food, wine... and they show it with festivals, filling the summer nights, celebrating everything from classical music to grapes. These family orientated events provide great free outdoor entertainment and gives you an insight into the wonderful hospitable Pugliese people. Puglia is something authentically Mediterranean and very Italian, come and find out for yourself and see why more people are recommending it.
Further notes on accommodation: Villa Carlotta is a 150 sqm independent villa set in its own garden with its own private drive accessed through electric gates and its own heated swimming pool and private outside entertainment areas. Due to its spectacular hillside location, the villas in the area are necessarily arranged on terraces which means that there is another villa with its own postal address and separate access arrangements, part of which is indeed situated directly above (and connected to) Villa Carlotta. This is actually a very typically layout for this part of Italy and can be seen clearly from some of the photos included on the website.
PRIVATE LEISURE FACILITIES
We have arranged paying access for our guests to the exclusive Coccaro Beach Club, Coccaro Golf Club and Masseria Torre Coccaro AVEDA Spa. These private facilities are normally available only to guests who stay at the 5* boutique hotel Masseria Torre Coccaro which is regarded as the best in Puglia. You will need to make a reservation - so simply ring the relevant number in the information pack and inform them that you are a guest at Villa Carlotta. Please check current rates when you call.

What I can say… everything was perfect !!
The position of the Villa is fantastic, the space are big enough for 6 persons, everything is clean .
The view is amazing!!

Great property! Beautifully furnished, comfy beds, very clean and spacious. Maura is excellent, take her tips on where to go, what to see, where to shop and the great local inexpensive restaurants! Thank you for a wonderful holiday!

luxury hillside villa
We enjoyed a wonderful 10 days in this beautiful villa. Maura was extremely helpful and gave us lots of advice on places to visit and good restaurants to eat in. Maura also went out of her way to bring us back some binoculars so that we could enjoy the spectacular sea views to the full .The neighbours were also very friendly giving us fresh figs from their trees. We would certainly recommend this villa to others.

Super place!
What a fantastic place to stay. Waking up to the panoramic views was an incredible treat which we did not tire of. The pool is just a short way from the house and gated off so perfect if you have young children. Everything was fantastically clean and the house well equipped. We were downstairs while another family was upstairs. (The two places are connected as other reviews have mentioned. ) We had separate driveways, gardens and swimming pools and we heard no noise at all.
It was a privilege to meet Maura and her recommendations were much appreciated. We had a seafood dinner with a private chef which she kindly arranged for our last night. It was delicious - highly recommend.
You can’t go wrong with this place. We loved it! (If you get stuck in the bathroom, just turn the light off!)

The villa is excellent, spacious, decorated with taste and has everything you’ll expect for a great vacation in Puglia. The view is amazing.
The service and attention to details from Maura is really five star level, from the preparations, the organization of the staff to the advice and information for the visits (best so far in all places we have visited!)
The location is excellent, some minutes from the beach and the best towns in Puglia. Trulli are beautiful to see and visit but not so comfortable for living, that is why we chose staying in this comfortable house. The villa has different well independent areas, the house, the pool-deck-barbecue, the upper deck and the terraced gardens, lots of space to spend days in if you want to rest between visits to towns.
We had a great time and look forward to coming back soon.

Enjoyable Autumn break with friends
Been trying to visit these Villas for a few years and finally had the opportunity. we were certainly not disappointed. Very smart villa great accommodation with fantastic views. Our first visit to Puglia so the local advice from Maura was invaluable. A great meal at a local Masseria and the in villa catering and cooking lesson organised by Maura was fab. We will certainly try to return.

The villa is fabulous, beautifully equipped - Maura really has thought of everything. She is lovely, & incredibly helpful with local knowledge/recommendations etc. The views were spectacular, and everything was very clean & in good condition.
There were just a few things we wish we'd known/had made clearer to us:
- the pool is really some distance from the villa - rather than the 30m it says in the details, we registered 100 steps on the Fitbit, and it is across the drive, through a gate, and then about 4 levels down the steeply terraced garden. We were very fortunate in that the villa upstairs was empty for most of our stay, so Maura was very happy to let us use their pool, which was on the same level as our accommodation;
- the villa 'above it and connected to it' is in fact upstairs, Villa Carlotta being on the ground floor. Again, we were very lucky in that it was unoccupied during our stay, but I can imagine that it would be quite noisy from footsteps overhead if it was full;
- there is a puzzling system of door locking in the bathrooms, meaning that both my husband and I got trapped in separate bathrooms on the first evening. It took us some time to work out how to get out (my husband worked it out first & then came to rescue me!) & I can imagine that it would be very upsetting for elderly people, or for parents with young children the other side of the door in the same situation. I would have loved an explanatory sign on the wall, to avoid the panic!;
- the garden was steeply terraced earth and trees, not grass, as we expected, although there were plenty of seating areas on each level of the hill;
- the view from the villa is spectacular, facing east and looking over the valley below and the sea. However, that did mean that, being on a steep hill, the sun started to disappear from areas of the terraces from about 2, and was completely gone behind the villa by 4 or 5pm. We were disappointed not to be able to sit out on a sunny terrace in the evenings, with a drink, when we could see the valley below bathed in bright sunshine!
Obviously, there is nothing that the owners can do about the geography/topography of the area, so I do feel a bit mean mentioning some of the above - Maura couldn't have been lovelier, but I just feel that these are things that I would want to know beforehand when making my choice of villa.

The Villa was as depicted in the photographs - and then some. We spent 8 days here, using it as a base to explore this part of Puglia and beyond. The location was spectacular, so much so that we were often torn between going out and staying home to enjoy the view from the terrace and the swimming pool. In the end, we found a compromise to do everything we wanted including spending time sightseeing, at the beach and at the villa.
What really contributed to the success of the vacation was the help we received from Maura Watson, our hostess. She went above and beyond to ensure that we had everything we needed, responding almost instantly to our requests. Her recommendations for places to see and eat were spot on. She even arranged to have local chefs cook more than half our dinners, thereby freeing us up from the need to shop, cook and clean up. We can't wait to go back. Thank you, Maura!

Not always do photographs give you the best of impressions but on this occasion they did and in the flesh the property is even better. It definitely has the WOW factor. Would we go back again, oh yes! If you want a quiet retreat or want to go out and about visiting different places then you are in the right location. The furthest we traveled was Lecce an hour and a half away, worth a visit.
There are small towns only 10 to 20 minutes away if you want to eat out ,with a variety of restaurants to suit most pockets. It will be a holiday property that will stay in our minds for a great deal of time.

We have just returned home from a 12 night holiday at Villa Carlotta. We are a family of 4 ( 2 teenage daughters) and have had the most amazing relaxing holiday ever! The villa is stunning set up on the hilltop with amazing views over the Olive groves and Sea. The photos represent the Villa perfectly, both of the Villa and the Pool. The house feels very private and fully equipped with everything one needs! The surrounding villages are beautiful with so much to see, along with beach clubs a short drive away. I thoroughly recommend the Zoosafari & Tivoli for anyone with Children ( even teenagers) as we visited twice and we all loved it! I would also recommend trying the Home chef either on your first night or last night( we chose our last night) as this was a wonderful experience having a local chef prepare true Italian food in the villa. A huge Thank you to Maura who was the most amazing host and went out her way to ensure our Holiday was perfect, down to the smallest details.She is also full of great ideas for day trips and places to visit and always at hand if you have any questions- we will definitely be returning! Thank you x

It's hard to know where to begin when describing this lovely home. The view across the valley to the sea is gorgeous, and we loved starting the day enjoying that view from the terrace with our breakfast. The villa is well appointed and maintained, and the photos are quite accurate. We loved the master bathroom with the huge tub and great shower. Nice appliances in the kitchen, and the gas fireplace was cozy on a couple of cool nights. It felt so spacious with decks on several levels, so you can follow the sun or shade, depending on which suits you.
Maura is a delight to deal with. So helpful, and provides you with excellent directions, and a really informative binder explaining the house and surrounding area. We took it with us on a number of day trips, as her directions for scenic routes were great. She also provides an arrival basket with some goodies to get you going, which we really appreciated as our arrival was around 8 pm, and she was there to greet us. She also set up a car rental for us, and the rental agent Elena provided us with transport to and from the airport. This was such a wonderful service to provide.
We would highly recommend this vacation property to anyone visiting Puglia, and found the location so convenient to sightseeing the area.
Thank you Maura for making our trip so enjoyable.

Stunning villa with amazing views.
We spent 10 days at Villa Carlotta and had the best time. The villa is spacious and well equipped. We loved the outdoor kitchen and used the gas BBQ to cook swordfish steaks and tuna whilst overlooking the swimming pool. The view from the villa is amazing and we never tired of gazing across the olive groves and out to sea. Make sure you visit the caves, Ostuni, Locorotondo and Polignano. Finally a big thank you to Maura who went out of her way to make sure we had a fabulous holiday.

Great size, facilities and position
Cool place to stay for a hot week! Great facilities although the internet could be better. Well presented, with everthing we needed. Maura did a a very useful welcome with good info on local restaurants, beaches and places to visit. Safe and secure.

Excellent week in a beautiful part of Italy
One of the busiest week's holidays we've had in a long time - there's so much to do in this area. And when you need a bit of relaxation, this villa is a great place to enjoy it! Very well specified, quiet patios and pool area, and fantastic views. Many thanks to Maura too, who ensured everything was perfect.

Luxury in the Puglian hills
From the moment the automatic gates opened the place impressed. Fantastic view from the terrace over the valley to the sea - I never tired of that view and a great breakfast spot. The villa was extremely well-appointed and had everything for a home away from home. Although that said my home doesn't have a fabulous pool or games room!. We had a great stay and Maura was very welcoming, helpful and responsive. We are very happy to recommend.

Fantastic house!
We very much enjoyed our stay in this lovely house. Everything you need is there. The view is great, so are the sun terraces. We stayed at the end of April and were able te swim everyday because of the heated pool, which is not large but suited our needs and also has a terrific view. The children loved the gameroom as well. There is lots to do in the area if you can drag yourself away from the house :-)

Glorious Views across Olive Groves to the Adriatic
Couldn't believe it was the right property on arrival - what a place! The sweeping drive led to an opulent looking villa which was so clean that we felt we were the first occupants. As we toured the villa, gardens and pool the squeals of delight from our two young daughters got louder and louder at every turn. The space and facilities available were more than enough for our family and it was pure luxury (particularly the Romanesque bath which could almost be counted as a pool on its own). My only regret is that the weather prevented us from enjoying the multitude of outside areas more, though we did brave the pool as it was heated, which took the chill off. We spent most of our week exploring the local area but I could imagine that occupants could hide themselves away quite happily without leaving the villa and grounds. Maura who manages the property is a star. She has a wealth of knowledge of the local area and is reassuringly on hand if any problems occur. I have no problem in recommending this property to anyone and would love to return (when it is a bit warmer).
4.9
Fabulous location for seeing the area. Stunning views and great facilities for keeping 3 boys happy
We arrived at the villa pretty late. Everything was in order and the directions to get there and get in worked beautifully. We had a lovely welcome pack which was perfect after a late journey and there was shopping 10 minutes away on the Sunday to stock up. We had a few little problems with the villa, the PlayStation didn't work ( although saved me from having to drag one of my 11 yr olds off it to enjoy Italy !) and the alarm was faulty. Maura was fantastic though and completely looked after us. She responded really quickly to any queries and was a great source of local recommendations for visits/ restaurants etc. We were there at the end of October so we had mixed weather with some days a little cool but the heated pool meant we could use it every day regardless.

Stunning views and luxury villa
Always nervous when booking villas independently but had no regrets with villa Carlotta . The five of us had plenty of areas to sunbath and enjoyed the bbq , supermarket very close by with exceptionally fresh food . My wish if seeing he trulli came true with a short trip to alberobello , amazing. Our thanks to Maura for making us welcome and offering advice on the area

Fantastic. Definitely coming back.
We usually stay in luxury hotels, so we were a bit worried about renting a house. This was perfect in every way. We had a wonderful time. Maura was very helpful. Villa is beautiful and very well maintained. 5 of us could not be happier with the arrangements.

Fabulous Villa and fantastic customer service
We had a wonderful week in Puglia staying at Villa Carlotta.
The villa is in a great location with spectacular views and various restaurants either a short drive or walk away. The villa was beautifully clean with great facilities including the outdoor kitchen area near to the heated pool, coffee machine and games room.
The manager of the villa provided a welcome hamper with all the essentials. She also gave us various recommendations for places to eat, had an excellent knowledge of the surrounding area and generally went above and beyond to ensure that we had a wonderful week.
We would definitely recommend staying at this villa!!
