About this apartment rental
In very popular Amsterdam North on one of Amsterdam's ancient 17th century sea dikes: Buiksloterdijk, is located our totally renovated apartment of 70m2 . It is a oasis of peace and yet incredibly close to the city center.
Although you are in Amsterdam North, you are in fact much closer to the city center than a lot of other places in Amsterdam. You are just behind the Central Station across the river IJ.
The Buiksloterdijk used to be the place where the Dutch East India Company captains retired. The 17th century houses where called 'the captains heaven'. The water of the IJ-river that runs behind the Central Station came up right to the house. Since 1870 it is a polder.
If you want to go to the city by bike, this is very easy and quick. In fact we recommend renting bikes as this is the best way of transport in Amsterdam.
Right in front of our house is a bicycle path. Just follow this path 10 minutes and you are at the ferry behind the Central Station. It is a beautiful ride along the NH Canal and the Noorder Park. You could also stroll along the canal to get to the ferry. This will take approx 25 minutes. You can walk to the metro station along the canal, 12 minutes and from there take the metro to the center, 2 minutes.
By Uber taxi it is 5 minutes to the free ferry, costs euro 7. Either way from the house you will be in the city center in less then 15 minutes.
Staying in our house is being close to the buzzing scene of Amsterdam and yet feel like your in the countryside. Here you wake up with birds whistling in the morning.
That is why this location is one of the most sought after locations of Amsterdam coming second after the canal district in surveys. There is nothing better than coming home to this quiet and beautiful spot after a tiring day of sight seeing or shopping in the city.
The view from the house is beautiful. Overlooking the North Holland Canal and the Noorderpark. In the back you will find a beautifully kept garden.
It is a very sunny spot, you get the sun coming in very early in the morning and staying most of the day on the terrace. On the side of the house you can store your bicycles safely behind a gate.
Amsterdam North is the starting point of numerous bicycle and walking routes through rural North Holland. These routes go right past our house.
Just a few kilometers away, along the North Holland Canal, you are at the Ilperveld, a bird sanctuary and nature park. It is possible to rent so called 'whisper boats' (electric engine) and tour this very special area. A very good idea if you feel like a pick-nick or a swim in summer.
An 18 hole golf course is just around the corner (1km).
Amsterdam North is the where the artists live in Amsterdam. The brand new EYE film museum with the best terrace of Amsterdam and great food is located here. MTV resides here, so does Universal Studio's.
The famous and trendy NDSM area is around the corner.
NDSM, a former shipyard located on the banks of the River IJ in Amsterdam Noord, NDSM Wharf has blossomed into an enormous cultural hotspot in recent years with a vibrant artist community and an ever-expanding variety of bars and restaurants. With grounds exceeding the size of ten football pitches, the area hosts multi-disciplinary festivals, performances, exhibitions, dance parties and a wide range of other events in unique, post-industrial surroundings.
There are many specialty restaurants, such as Next, Barracuda, Helling 7, de Klaproos, Café Modern, Il Pecorino, Plekk, Loetje or Hotel de Goudfazant. Many of these restaurants are located in old factory buildings or former shipyards and overlook the IJ river.
Just around the corner of our house are 2 good and inexpensive restaurants a Turkish, Turquoise Meating, and a Thai, Pasoek.
A small supermarket is at 200m.
Parking is FREE at 300m or in front of the house €8,30/DAY. In the city you pay euro 8 per hour.
The apartment consists of a large living area of 30m2, 2 large separate bedrooms 16m2, with king size beds, a well equipped separate kitchen with microwave, fridge and dishwasher. There is a luxury bathroom with toilet and an adjacent large roof terrace. This is the only place where you are allowed to smoke.
You have a 40¨flat screen TV with cable .Free fast Internet is available. You can find in the apartment a lot of maps, guides and touristic books about Amsterdam. As your hosts -we live in the house ourselves- we are most happy to help you with tips, online tickets for the musea and any other questions you might have.

My teenage daughter and I loved our stay here. We enjoyed escaping to the quaintness and relative quietness of north Amsterdam and this clean, cozy, apartment after busy days exploring Amsterdam and other nearby towns. It was easy to get to Centraal station via a short walk (15 min) and one stop on metro. The owners were kind and quick to respond and answer questions. I would highly recommend!

Such a nice quiet place to stay for three nights in a beautiful neighborhood. We enjoyed returning after busy days exploring the city. There are nice places to walk, nearby shopping and food, and a great vantage point for watching all the people bicycling by or enjoying the deck overlooking the garden. Would stay here again!

This apartment was perfect for our girls weekend.
We felt at home and though the house is in a quite surrounding, the city Center is comfortably near.
The landlord was nice and had a lot of useful information for us.

Excellent top to bottom, very nice park across the street, convenient to transport.

The apartment was set in a quiet area in Amsterdam North surrounded by gardens to the back and canals in front and behind. The apartment is very close to central Amsterdam with a short walk and very short free ferry ride. The hosts, Rene and Ellen were extremely welcoming and helpful with suggestions for activities and dining. We had cooking facilities that we used daily and had evening visits with other family members staying nearby. A wonderful time.

We had a wonderful stay in a cosy and well-decorated apartment in an old renovated sea-captains house. We loved the house with its character and green surroundings and its sunny terrace with a beautiful view. The street was a long but quiet street of beautiful historic houses, each well-renovated, which gave the are a unique charm.
Our hosts, René and Ellen, were super friendly and communication was spot-on and always fast. They were very accommodating and had a long list of interesting information and very helpful tips - one of them to use the free ferry not far from the house for a very short ride to Amsterdam city center; we loved that.
René and Ellen were very welcoming (we enjoyed the cooled beer and nice Merlot as welcome gifts). They live in the house but are super discrete, helpful if you need them and otherwise they give you comfortable privacy.
We can definitely recommend this nice location and its landloards and will return.

Nice accomodation in a beautiful neighborhood of Amsterdam
Nice accomodation in a beautiful neighborhood of Amsterdam. My only comment concerns the heating that on the dates we stayed (November) was automatically turned-off throughout the night so the rooms were very cold.
Overall, I recommend this vacation rental.

The shower was too hot and the temperature control to cool it was stuck. The property manager was not really concerned about it.

A lovely place to stay.
This place has everything needed to a comfortable stay in north Amsterdam. I loved the view from the window and was sorry that the weather didn’t allow me to enjoy the little balcony and gorgeous garden. Comfortable beds, plenty of room, and really light. We would definitely stay here again. Note: like many place in Amsterdam, the stairs are steep.

Our host was friendly and helped us with information about places to eat and visit and transportation options. Unit was comfortable and very clean. Picturesque, quiet neighborhood with canal views. Only downside is that it is a 10 to 15 minute walk to transit, which can be hard after a long day. Luckily there is Uber!

Superb location and charming hosts
The apartment is beautifully situated at the end of a dyke and by a very attractive park. We used Uber to the free ferry to cross into the city and walk to local shops 10-15 minutes away. The hosts were kind enough to welcome us with a bottle of wine and some beer.
Whilst being both spacious and light with most pleasing views there is a need for some updating. The kitchen is in the hallway/landing area and with limited facilities. There was no sign of an iron or ironing board or safe. The first night we were very cold although when we flagged this up the owners quickly responded and corrected the problem immediately.
However, the main problem for our party of four people was the lack of a separate toilet as we had chosen this apartment specificllay as it advertised this and I quote ;-
Bathroom 1. Toilet. 1
toilet, combination tub/shower, shower. Toilet
On arrival we asked where the separate toilet was and were told that there wasn’t one only the one in the bathroom. I am afraid this was a significant issue for us.

We loved the flat which was perfect and had everything we needed. Rene was really helpful explaining all the transport and local dining places. Loved sitting in the window watching all the cyclists go by. Lovely peaceful home which we looked forward to getting back to in the evening. Miss it! Thank you Rene and Ellen!

Beautiful location by the canal surrounded by other picturesque houses from the 18th and 19th century. It was perfect for our family being away from the bustle of the centre but still within easy reach via the new Metro.
Ellen was a very thoughtful hostess suggesting various amenities and restaurants in the area. The petting zoo around the corner from the flat was a particular hit with our son.
It's about a 10-15 min stroll to the metro station through a very nice park beside the canal. If you continue on foot along the canal you come to the free ferry that takes you directly to Amsterdam central.
Highly recommended.
Rene/Ellen thank you for our stay!

Great but 🥶 chilly
Was in a lovely quiet part of town, very scenic street and polite hosts. The only complaint is the heating was turned off during the night when most needed but overall great stay but perhaps just for the summer months

Very much enjoyed this peaceful place. On our first night Renee brought us up some cookies and chocolate. I loved the view from the window, the kitchen had everything we needed and the walk to the metro was wonderful 15 minute walk from our place. there is a little store up the road as well as a great pool! Definately would stay again

Good place in the North of Amsterdam
Good location in the north country side of Amsterdam. We mostly took uber to the city center which was a 10-15min car ride by uber. Being in a local neighborhood, It was about a 10min walk to get to any store/restaurant.
The apartment was very clean and cozy. Beds were comfortable as well.
I would stay again :)

Excellent all round
Thanks to Rene & Ellen for providing an excellent base for a few days in Amsterdam. Spacious, comfortable apartment and only a short journey into the city via a very efficient bus service (or Uber at 12 euros) or by an interesting walk alongside the canal. Hosts very welcoming and informative but in no way obtrusive.

Rene welcomed us with a bottle of wine and wonderful instructions on how best to enjoy our stay. The apartment is well furnished and we really didn’t need anything else to make our stay better.
