Great couples retreat on the coast, in secluded Elk -- wonderful location between Point Arena and Mendocino.

The architecture & view are fabulous. However, this house needs a good cleaning & some maintenance. Deck lighting was not working, dishes were dirty, lots of cobwebs & dust. Bed was super comfortable but you will be woken early by the sun (no window coverings) & road noise.

Can’t beat the views inside and out. Will return.

This guesthouse is perfect for a solo or couple! The view from the deck is beyond breathtaking and the bed is comfy. It’s minutes from a great beach and the general store and just a quick drive to Mendocino. Absolutely delightful!

The view, the fireplace, the architectural details. Great location and base to explore Mendocino County and the nearby Anderson Valley.
We will definitely consider another visit.

Such a delightful place to hang out and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Mendocino coast.

You can not beat the view! Just gorgeous! The property itself is dated and worn. Beds and furniture need to be replaced. The bed was sinking in and was not very comfortable. It was clean and had everything we needed to cook and eat with. The location provides privacy but is also a short drive into Mendocino.

Our first night there I found a mouse - I called the next morning to report it. When I woke up the mouse had gotten into my bread and granola and I found droppings on the counter top. They said someone would call me...they never did. They didn't offer us to stay at the main house either which appeared to be vacant. We spent 2 nights tip toeing around the house hoping not to see the mouse. Each night I could hear the mouse in the kitchen and in the cabinets. I woke up both mornings to droppings on the counter. I called three times, emailed pictures twice...and as of now...I'm only receiving $135 refund. I paid $900 to stay here. This is unacceptable.

Trying and failing to keep this hideaway a secret as I have never slept better in my life. A result of mornings spent on the deck, breathing in deep the new day, my daily walks along the bluff to the beach, soaking in the view with a good book and curling up by the fire at night. Love the time capsule vibe that forces you to escape.

Unbelievable view from this great home. Comfortable and well-appointed. We look forward to going back to relax!

Original midcentury
This property is a very cool architectural midcentury duplex. We loved the space! It is a little “worn” because it all seems to be original(like kitchen cabinetry) but it’s a very peaceful enjoyable space.. Loved it!

An architectural marvel
Looks like nothing from the street then -- WOW. This place is incredible. Inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright with floor to ceiling windows that overlook one of the most incredible views of the Pacific Ocean you will ever see. Otherworldly. The only downside is that Vacasa/VRBO forgot to email us about the house's broken furnace so we had to have a fire going and keep 4 space heaters going full-time to survive the below 40 degree temps outside. I very much appreciate that the rental company refunded much of our rental fee to accommodate but do wish they hadn't rent out a place with no heat during wintertime.

Coastal Getaway
Great find! It's situated right on the coastline in a little inlet with a great view of the rocky coast. The mid-century wooden architecture is well thought out and gives the place a unique feel. Comes with everything you would need. Nearby Greenwood State Beach was also a highlight.

Best view ever
My only complaint about the house is that is it very close to the highway, so you get a lot of road noise. The deck is spectacular and we spent most of our time out there. You can tell its an old house- the light switches are randomly placed and the kitchen is pretty dark, but as a beach escape for a few days, it was perfect. Most of the stores and restaurants in Elk were closed due to COVID, etc, so the only bummer was having to drive to Mendocino if we wanted food. Would definitely stay here again!!

Beautiful views!
We loved our stay and had a great time relaxing an unwinding for a weekend. The property is clean and the architecture is amazing, The views from the patio are one of a kind and we really appreciated the thoughtfulness of the host providing us binoculars to view the wildlife around us. The light switches took a while to figure out at first, but all in all we had a great time and we would definitely go back!

lovely place to relax
comfortable, stylish house with a great patio and view. we had no complaints, but note that the main house shares the same deck but they are some distance away.

A beautiful place to chill and enjoy nature
Amazing views, lovely old house, eccentric lighting! Good selection of pans for cooking but few utensils and no chopping board. House has no internet or cable so bring IT kit and download music and movies if you want to watch TV or listen to music. A 30 min drive to grocery store in Mendocino so bring supplies with you.

Natural beauty and architecture heaven
An extraordinary view, lovely light, charmingly eccentric house and easy access to the natural wonders and wine of the Coastal area around. Perfect for a relaxing few days off the grid. Please note no internet!

Beautiful Oceanfront view, funky architecture
Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much. The view of the ocean was excellent, and Elk is a great little town. Its too bad the house's electrical systems and lighting aren't in good condition though, with many switches failed and inadequate lighting throughout the house, particularly in the kitchen. The kitchen supplies were also inadequate (no pots or pans?). Too bad some privacy structure wasn't built to separate the deck from that of the other house that is attached.

Elk House -architechural marvel!
Wonderful home with unparalleled views! Could use a few more simple kitchen items (spent 20 minute searching for something to stir the pasta with.. :) and the TV instructions were very detailed but it still didn't work (we think one remote was missing?) But small complaints for how peaceful our vacation was...

Great place to stay in Elk
The cabin is spacious and comfortable
The deck is huge and the view is truly epic!
Beds are comfortable
Hosts are approachable and helpful
The only things that could have been better were that the TV didn’t work at all throughout our stay and there is some road noise as the cabin is right on the road. Also the cabin can make some creepy creaking sounds, especially when the heating is on. But you get used to that!! We would recommend this place for sure.

Amazing house and location
We rented the guest house of the Mid Century modern over New Years. The location is unbeatable! The back deck overlooked the ocean and several rock cliffs, you can hear the waves at night, and there's relatively little environmental light so the stars shine bright. The house itself is beautiful - lots of original woodwork.

Absolutely stunning location!!!!
Amazing spot to escape to! Stunning views off of the large deck, with plenty of room and choices to enjoy the view from loungers, outdoor dining table and built-in benches. Great views from inside the home as well!
Felt relatively private despite being a duplex, with visitors staying on the other side while we were staying here. Home was equipped with everything you could need.
Only small complaints; bit of a funny plumbing smell after using the shower, and bedroom floor could use a better cleaning/ dusting.
But overall a truly special place! Would definitely recommend it!!!

Gorgeous view but place was not very clean or updated for how expensive it was
The view is amazing and the area is so peaceful but the house needs to be updated and deep cleaned for how expensive it is. The house is very old and is not very cozy or aesthetically pleasing. The wiring for the lighting is all crazy and confusing. The outlet in the bathroom did not work. There's only one outlet per room, including the kitchen and bathroom. In every corner there were dead bugs and spider webs (gross). Clearly there is a rat or mouse problem (I found mouse poop on my pillow in the morning (very gross). There were only 3 pillows (should be 4).
