About this cottage rental
No WiFi service at the moment. Reviewers say that the best thing about our cottage is that it is a real home from home as well as being perfectly located for a short stroll to town along the picturesque Bideford Estuary. The cottage is fully equipped with lots to keep children entertained & is comfortably furnished. It is practical for dogs too, with hard flooring laid throughout the spacious downstairs. There is a little courtyard which is a complete sun trap. The driveway has space for one car & there is plenty more free street parking nearby if needed.
There are many pubs, restaurants & shops within an easy level walk from the cottage, with some of these delightful venues overlooking the estuary.
The cottage sleeps 4 in two bedrooms (6 when using a sofa bed in the dining room). There is also a travel cot & high chair available. The cottage has a welcoming log burner in the spacious lounge which is well equipped with toys & board games as well as a SmartTV, DVD player & Wii console.
Riverbank Cottage dates from the 1890's & is a stone built terraced cottage in a row of former Estuary workers' cottages. Its position is unique in that this quaint cottage is only a 10 minute walk along the Estuary from the centre of Bideford & yet it is situated in a very quiet no through road set away from the hustle & bustle of the town..
There is a separate dining room with a dining table that seats 4 - 6. The dining room features an attractive stone fireplace; there is a double sofa bed available for extra guests (please note bedding / towels are not supplied for the sofa bed or travel cot).
The kitchen is equipped with washer dryer, microwave, electric oven & gas hob. Items supplied for your stay include a coffee plunger, tea towels, washing up liquid & cloths etc. The kitchen opens out into a little court yard with a patio table & chairs; there is a barbecue available for guest use too.
Upstairs is a master bedroom with a king size bed & an extra TV. The second bedroom has two single beds which can be made up as a king size bed if required. The bathroom is spacious with a bath & power shower over the bath. The cottage is warm & comfortable with gas central heating, constant hot water by way of a combi boiler plus the gorgeous log burner.
We supply all bedding & towels for the two bedrooms.
Outdoor games such as cricket, badminton & racquet games are supplied for guests' use. There is a beautiful park (Victoria Park) with a lido for young children which is only minutes away on foot towards the town centre. Or you can walk or hire bikes to go along the nearby Tarka Trail. Only 2 miles away is the lovely little sandy beach at Instow. There are also surf boards & 3 body boards at the cottage that guests are welcome to use if they want to go to the great water sports beach at Westward Ho! which is only a five minute drive away, or both Saunton Sands & Croyde are nearby.

Lovely cottage with all comforts of home, perfect location for families and exploring the area. Great amenities and cozy atmosphere.

This is a beautiful cottage within easy reach of the town via short walk through park. Cottage had everything we required, was clean and fresh on arrival. Would definitely recommend staying here

Thr cottage is very well situated near the river, and it’s only ten minutes’ walk into town. The cottage is bigger than it looks in the photos and there is plenty of storage. The kitchen is very well equipped though it would have been useful to have the users’ manual.

Convenient and comfy. As described. Easy walk into town which was a bonus.

Such a lovely cottage it was very cosy and the perfect location where we were able to visit family, and take our four legged family with us. It had all the comforts of home, and we can't wait to return in the near future .

We were on a golfing holiday with friends who had booked a b&b for the duration of their stay. Renting an entire property was a much better alternative, as we were able to relax and watch tv from a comfortable settee after a rain swept round. Dry and securely store our clubs. The accommodation was a home from home and only a £1.50 bus ride from where our friends were staying in Westward Ho!

Property excellent.Parking very tight when people park on opposite side.

Loved the cottage, great location for us, quiet area, nice and relaxed.

The cottage is in a good location with easy access to the main roads, a short walk into Bideford and close to a large supermarket. The kitchen is well equipped with the expected conveniences. The living room and dining room are spacious enough for 4 adults. Two good bedrooms and a large bathroom with a good shower are up steepish, narrow stairs.
The house is in a row of terraced houses and surrounded by a more modern development of homes. Given the narrow roads and on street parking, any car larger than a compact size may experience difficulty in maneuvering. Parking at/around the house is somewhat problematic especially if there are other cars already present. There is parking in the adjacent roads.
There were some general items left in the house but it would be advisable to make sure basic items such as condiments and paper products are brought with you. No logs were left for the wood burning fire and as there is no control of when the heating comes on it can lead to some chilly mornings and evenings!

Was a wonderful cottage. Everything thought about. Beautifully clean, felt like home. Really enjoyed staying there. Would definitely recommend.

Only issues were parking and having to take our own logs for the fire.
Otherwise lovely escape.

Enjoyed the stay. Sweet little cottage. Washing machine/tumble dryer was a nightmare. Did ruin some expensive items of clothing. As automatically switched on tumble dryer after wash at 90 degrees.

Firstly - the good stuff, and there's plenty of that. The cottage is in a great location, near the river and walks along it. Easy walk into Bideford, close to a large supermarket and town and yet a really quiet, peaceful place to stay. The kitchen is very well equipped with pots, pans, crockery, washing machine, gas hob, cooker, microwave, etc. Very comfy living room with TV, Wii, books, DVD's and an excellent log burner. Dining room with bed settee, dining table and chairs with stairs off. Two good bedrooms, 1 king and one twin, we found the beds comfortable and there were spare blankets. Large bathroom with a good shower over the bath, plenty of towels provided. Nicely decorated and really great for 4 adults (6 adults might be a bit of a crowd)
Not quite as good points (but not the owners fault) were the parking - nothing wrong with it in itself, just that the house is on a road of terraces and should others park on the road it can make getting in and out of the parking space in front of the property a bit difficult, Then, sadly, the WiFi didn't work throughout our stay - appeared to be a problem with the provider, so yet again not the fault of the owner but disappointing nevertheless. Alex did all he could to get it put right.
The were a few other little niggles but that's all they were - small things that could have made this lovely little cottage even more welcoming. A welcome pack (tea, coffee, sugar, milk, biscuits, etc.) after a long journey is always nice. Kitchen condiments are always useful in self catering accommodation and we were only left one loo roll when a spare is a bit of a necessity - We were only 3 adults for 3 nights, and it would have run out. There were also only a few logs left for the woodburner. The door between the dining and living rooms sticks and as it has glass panels that could be a problem? Just a few little tweaks that would really raise this cottage up to 5 star

The house was fine, clean and comfortable though the mattress on the double bed could be upgraded. As regular holiday renters we were surprised to find the usual basic items were missing. No spare toilet rolls, salt and pepper or fresh milk provided. The internet was unreliable and parking difficult as we were either blocked in or blocked out of the driveway by residents parking in the road. Despite all we enjoyed exploring this area of Devon.

Loved Riverside Cottages
Everything at the cottage that we needed. Great spot, felt safe and secure and neighbours very pleasant. Close to Torridge Bridge but we weren't aware of road noise. 30 seconds to get to walk beside the river. Easy walk into Bideford and to Morrison's. Would definitely recommend and would stay there again ourselves.

holiday stay
The house was fine - but it did smell of weed which was a little disappointing for quite an expensive 2 night stay.

Lovely cottage.
Lovely place, great location everything you need on site.
Couple of points though, on booking the times were in after 14.00 out before 10am. Great. After booking and paying I had an email saying in after 17.00 and out before 09.00. Not possible with2 small ones 2 dogs and 4 adults.
The cleanliness was shocking, I found a toe nail in my bed and a contact lens case on the floor at the end of the bed. It also hasn’t been dusted. The charge added on for cleaning was £65.00!!! The cleaner needs sacking!!
Thirdly we nearly had a fatal accident. My 2 yr old grandson came to me and asked if he could eat the sweetie. On checking what sweetie it was it turned out to be a laundry tablet which was just dropped in the bottom of the under the sink cupboard. Good job he checked before eating it otherwise it would have a trip to A&E of worse. It was good of the owners (Alex) to leave them but for goodness sake put them in a child proof container.
One other thing was the WiFi didn’t work. I messaged Alex to let him know and came straight back to me to say that he would contact his provider. It was back in on the morning but lasted about 2 hours. So this needs sorting.
Other than that it’s a lovely place.

Everything was ideal
Had everything needed although we didnt know that the Internet had been turned off until the day before we left as when reading the booklet you were asked not to switch off Internet before you left so obviously previous guests had turned it off enjoyed the log burner on the colder evening's

Lovely weekend getaway!
Lovely cottage with everything we needed and in a great location. The pint of milk in the fridge ready for a cuppa when we arrived was much appreciated after a challenging drive! Lots to do locally. Nice walks, great shops and lovely beaches. We really enjoyed our stay.

Great location, clean, bed not comfortable
We enjoyed our stay. The property is 1/2 mile from town, and there is a level walk along the river to get there. There is also a large Morrison’s close by. It’s very quiet in the neighbourhood.
The facilities are very good, and clean. If travelling with a pet, please be aware that there is no outdoor space to allow your pet to relieve itself. However, there is a little courtyard with a table to enjoy coffee in the mornings. We took our dog along the coastal path, where there are plenty of litter bins for pet waste, so the lack of a garden wasn’t a hardship.
Downsides, the double mattress needs to be replaced. I woke up in pain, but the twin bed wasn’t a problem.
There was also a request to strip the beds/duvets, flatten all containers and cans, and ideally , take all rubbish home with us. We weren’t able to comply due to extreme old age and arthritis!

Compact and comfortable
Well located in quiet estate on the edge of Bideford and excellently placed for access to Westward Ho!, the Tarka trail and other Devon delights. Great to be able to use bodyboards and enough space in backyard to store 4 bikes. The cottage was compact with 4 people staying but gave us a great base for an enjoyable week.

Great property
Great location just by the riverbank. Short walk in to town, ample space for 4 people and the surf boards were a bonus. Everything you’d need for a self catered get away. Would definitely stay here again. We found some lovely coastal and woodland walks to take our dog on two minutes from the property- recommended

Cosy comfortable and relaxing
Really lovely property, spotlessly clean everything you needed in there plus bonus of surf/body boards. Area and street is much nicer than google street view suggests, and property actually felt much roomier than pictures suggested. Lovely to have the log burner and Morrisons 10 minutes walk away. Great for local walks and surfing beaches will definitely look to stay again. We were there in November and it was a great property for the wet windy weather but I would think it would suit summer equally well.
