Great location, close to beach and shops in town. We were greeted by friendly hosts, who were very helpful with questions and responded quickly to our requests. We met interesting travellers and felt very safe during our stay. The inner courtyard is peaceful and there is a large communal kitchen.
Better signage outside the hosteria would help to identify the place. Construction workers helped us find it.

This is a beautiful place, nice pool and traditional architecture with a lot of plants
The attention was simply absent. No towels for my room, no breakfast neither someone to ask for information in the morning. The bathroom was fine but there was no body wash or shampoo; we just got in to sleep and left the place next morning without knowing what was that about.

The facility was very pretty. Beautiful foliage near and around the pool area and common area. The beds were very comfortable. The hosts were extremely polite and friendly.
Our room was constantly damp and smelled musty. The shower had an extremely slow drain so we stood in dirty water and the water flooded the bathroom floor all the way to the sink. That was soooo gross. There was black mold on the lower wall of the bathroom and in the lower wall of the cupboard in the bedroom. There weren't extra blankets and the dampness made it very cool at night. There wasn't a "quiet time" so any guests in the common area could be heard talking and singing into the wee hours of the evening and early mornings. There weren't any beach chairs or umbrellas we could use to take to the beach. It was very expensive for the quality and we expected better given the rating online.

I didn’t receive breakfast, great location. Beautiful terrace and shared spaces.
Shared rooms didn’t have lockers or a lock for the door at all, the gate at the front has an extremely easy to guess passcode. Previous guests had expressed concerns about security. I left a day early because I didn’t feel comfortable leaving my laptop.
The space could be cleaner overall. The pool wasn’t as inviting as it could have been due to cleanliness. when I arrived there was water leaking from the ceiling in the main area for two days which made a mess and seemed like overall the place needed some maintenance.

The property is beautiful, and all those reviews regarding cleanliness not being great seem to have had an effect. The pool was cleaned at least once a day and the bathrooms on the side of the building with the group/private rooms were nice and clean. The volunteers very friendly and helpful.
After a dreamy night in one of the four bed dorms/group rooms, I was asked to move because there was a group of four men coming and I was the only female left in the room. I was also told the bed I was in (a "double", which really is only a queen size) was supposed to be used by two people, which I thought was very odd, especially for the price they're asking for a dorm bed. I was then moved into the staff room, which was crammed and cluttered, and shared with one of the staff's dog (which was very quiet, and I'm not allergic or have issues with dogs, but wasn't even told this). The manager was helpful, but not particularly friendly, especially after I voiced my disappointment with the room change. The part of the building with the private rooms seems to be getting a lot more attention in terms of cleanliness and care.

I loved my stay at this hostel! Absolutely dreamy! The ladies who were working there were lovely. The bed was comfortable, it is so peaceful and quiet, the pool is beautiful and it is a one minute walk to the beach. There is a beautiful dog at the hostel called Collie...what a sweetheart. And two beautiful cats.

There are many fine restaurants! and having a balcony was nice.
I have never stayed in a hostel, i was disappointed not to have a coffee, nor shampoo... but mostly the pool did not look inviting by mid day, full of debris, and no skimmer for even the guests to clean it. Chairs or loungers, 2, perhaps a few more needed. Yes, lovely pets are allowed, but not when the poor animals are tied up near the pool and therefore need to use the small area for their bathroom. the odor and having feces on the pool deck is not acceptable. Lastly, the door did not lock properly on the balcony, nor the screen shut, or fit. Since the bathrm was next to my entrance door, i heard the door opening and closing, from the multiple guests down the hall, many times during the night, difficult for sleeping.

I had quite low expectations of this place after reading many negative reviews. Since there wasn't much else available in town I decided to give it a shot. And I must say I was pleasantly surprised. First of all the location is great, super close to the beach. I loved the common area and kitchen which was very comfortable to hang out and meet people. I had a private room with a shared balcony which faced the beach side, and I could spot a tiny glimpse of the ocean through the buildings in front, which was a nice little bonus. I felt really seen by one of the volunteers there who did her best to speak to me in English when she realized I don't speak much Spanish. The room was comfortable enough, and I like how spacious it was, although maybe a bit overpriced for the simplicity of it. I like that it was a chill hostel without a bunch of partying and loud people.
Soundproofing - It was hard to spend time in the hostel during the day since they were doing loud construction in there every day. There is not much soundproofing neither towards the street nor towards the inside of the hostel, so I had to sleep with earplugs every night to be able to sleep. If they changed the doors to ones that are more soundproof it would make a big difference.
Cleanliness - The cleanliness was not the best. As I was doing my yoga practice i saw that there was a thick layer of dust under the bed. The bathroom sinks didn't seem to ever be cleaned. And the hand towels in there were not changed even once during my stay, and we were quite many people using them. The fridge was probably the dirtiest thing in there. Old food that had started molding was there during my whole stay until I threw it in the trash. Both the inside and the outside of the fridge should be cleaned regularly... it was not very inviting to use it in this state.
There was blue paint tape hanging from the wardrobe (probably after painting), which I picked off and threw in the trash. Should've been cleaned better before having guests in there. It smelled quie strongly of paint when I arrived. I got used to it after a couple of days though.

Our first booking was cancelled by the owner and this was recommended. For the price it was perfect. It was really near by the beach,so that was for sure a plus. The people who worked there where very helpful and kind.
Ofcourse this way of staying, not having a n own bathroom, and a shared kitchen, you really have to like it. The area was smaller then I thought. Oh and we missed a propper place to hang clothes in the bedroom. I think that our room would be more for younger people. For us it was more an emergency place, sinds our first booking was cancelled.

The staff was welcoming and helpful
There were lots of mosquitos in the property, electricity went out and no candels or somethings else offered , the shared bathroom wasn’t clean the whole time I was there, the pool needs cleaning

My room had broken furniture and mould on painting on the wall, room needed dusting. The dogs of the owners running around in the hostel sometimes fighting with each other was not great, the street in front of the hostel got completely pulled up by the council to be redone, this is fantastic for the town but the staff acted like there was nothing wrong with the subsequent noise and huge piles of debris right out the front door, plus construction on the other side of the building, staff didn't seem to care a less about how guests were feeling about noise or roadworks.

I stayed in the female dorm with shared bathroom. There were two bathrooms. One shower was cold, the other was hot. There is a really nice pool next to a cute little garden. The outdoor communal kitchen was clean, spacious and well equipped with a large table and a space conducive to connecting with other travelers. The overall vibe of the space was chill and it is a very short walk to the beach. Pedro, the manager, was welcoming and hospitable. One of the best places I stayed on my entire trip.
Everything was great, except for one thing. I was jolted awake at 3am by a loud group of people in the communal kitchen blasting music at earsplitting volume. I ended up going downstairs after awhile to ask them to please turn it down. My suggestion for the hotel would be to post quiet hours such as 10pm-8am to motivate people to be more considerate of those who are sleeping at night.

Two blocks from the beach
Walking distance to restaurants and shops
Ten minutes to Plaza (bus)
Quiet neighbourhood
Pool
Kitchen
WiFi
Towel and soap provided
Blankets on request
Pleasant staff
Completely disorganised, everything from the booking and checking in, the number of and sex of the people in the tiny dorm, confirming availability of extending stay and personal laundry
Constant loud bickering between staff. Nice people just not professional.
Tiny dorm overbooked with 5 people in a 4 bed dorm (one double with single on top, and a two bed bunk).
No lockers
Need an extension cord for the power point and phone chargers (only point is between top and bottom bunks on both beds)
No where to hang things to dry other than shared concrete walkway/balcony
Only one bathroom for the 4 top rooms at the back of property and the floor is either wet or dirty. Water pressure is terrible. Smells. Slat window at top of door doesn't provide much privacy of you're close to the door
No water cooler. Installed water tap in kitchen tastes terrible I wouldn't trust the filters been changed recently
Expensive for no breakfast included

such a beautiful space! well taken care of and very comfortable. pool was clean and the area was quiet. close to the beach and restaurants. and animals on the property were lovely (the dog is a gentle giant)
the price was quite high for what we’ve been paying for smaller towns around puerto Vallarta (bur prices low for this specific town, so still the best place to book in our opinion)

Lo de Chata is a little hippie heaven with a central kitchen, a great pool, very friendly staff and cool guests.
Most rooms come with a shared bathroom, anyway there are also rooms with private baths. The overall vibe is very hostel-like. The kitchen is kind of a meeting point where one can get together and chat. It’s also possible to use all the kitchen utensils and the fridge which is super convenient.
The internet in the village Lo de Marcos is generally quite slow and unreliable- if you need to work it might be an issue.
I booked a private room but the booking in the hostel was for a dormitory- that happened to several other guests as well. They found a good solution, make sure though you actually book what you want.

Close to beach. The volunteers who were there were nice.
They didn’t know about our reservation. The room felt like a small jail cell. The kitchen area was dirty their dog was licking all the utensils when I went to use the stove.

The owner who greeted us was nice and helpful. The big white dog was a sweety. The location to town center and beach were great !
The room was dark and damp. Only one exposed light bulb in the unit. Mirror in bathroom was no longer attached to wall, just leaning behind sink. Only about a quarter of a roll of toilet paper was in room.
