Was a very good place to relax. Close to Cody where there were lots of things to do. Not too bad a drive to Yellowstone. Overall great time

We had 4 couples and 2 children stay here over the Thanksgiving holiday. Couldn't have asked for a better setup for us. The kitchen was large enough for us to cook all of our meals. Table seating was plentiful and the overall rustic cabin theme was right up our alley. Both the owner and property manager communicated extremely well and often. Will definitely look at the place for our future needs.

Our first night it was just my hubby and I. They have a room called honeymoon suite and it delivered the setting for a cozy date night! - Then the rest of the family arrived and we all had a blast in this spacious and clean wild west log house property.
This place is easy to reach yet quiet. The gardens and mountain views helped us relax and get back to nature. Hot tub under the stars (no light pollution!) was fabulous. The kitchen is well equipped, the bbq outside worked well for our outdoor dinners. The great room was big enough for a grand dinner party. All the bathrooms spotless! Kids had enough space to play outside and have their own space indoors. We loved going to greet the horses at the back of the property when the sun was going down and it painted the mountains golden. We had an amazing experience and are already talking about coming back next year with our bikes. There is plenty of safe space to park our trailers and Harleys. In Cody the Buffalo Bill Museum is worth visiting but you need an entire day to see it all: plains Indian, natural history, fine art, guns, and of course a big wing for the one and only Buffalo Bill.

Nice location. Needs updating and some tender loving care. Needs better air conditioning. Landscaping could use some help. Couldn’t be outdoors much because of mosquitoes. Beds need updating.

Our stay was very enjoyable. The lodge was perfect for our 8 adults and 4 kids ages five and under. The kitchen and dining area were great. The beds were comfortable. The air conditioning was not great in the kitchen, but there were plenty of fans to draw cool air from the dining area. We have wonderful memories from our stay at the lodge!

We meet every two years the six of us and spouses. I’m the oldest and was seventy this year so I got to choose the place. What a great quiet spacious setting and house. We went into Cody and Yellowstone during our stay and fixed fantastic dinners at the house in the evenings. Plenty of air conditioners and fans to keep the house cool during the hot July days. Nice cool mornings to bring in the morning air. Just a wonderful place to stay and the extra bachelor quarters were a nice plus. I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed staying here. The grocery store was five minutes away and Cody twenty, so was the airport.

Very large and spacious property for a large family or multiple families. Everything we needed was provided. Great outdoor space with a view.

We had a family reunion with 14 adults and kids at the property. The property manager was very helpful making sure we had everything we needed for our group including air mattresses, sheets and plenty of towels for the showers and the hot tub. We had one person with a wheelchair and he was able to move around easily within the house and out on to the deck. There are was plenty of indoor and outdoor space for us to gather as a family but also space to spread out. We would definitely stay again.

Loved the property and the manager. Spacious perfect for our needs. Management was available at all times to answer any questions or help us if we needed it. Hot tub wouldn’t go over 104 for us . It was late in the evening so we didn’t ask for help

Spacious, rustic and western hospitality. Perfect for our stay.

Ad misleading thought property was located out in the country according to pictures online not on main Street in town. Also water running 24 hrs in yard, and when we were loading up on departure day sprinklers shooting right towards the patio door making it difficult to load without getting wet. Other than that space worked well for our families. Manager easy to get a long with.

Leisure Time Out West
The home was really perfect for our family. All of the living areas were spacious and decorated in a fun western motif. Seating areas both inside and out were perfect for our family get together. Rex greeted us when we arrived and was available to answer any questions if needed.

Fantastic home for a family reunion!
6 adults and two children (4 and 7) for a family get together! Perfect house, plenty of room and an amazing kitchen! Beautiful views, hot tub, and a very comfortable home! It was perfect in every way. The on-site manager was very helpful in all aspects! Dealing with the owner was amazing and answered any questions in a very timely fashion. We would all love to to go back and stay because it was a perfect house - lots of room for everyone!

Spectacular
Prior to arriving we had good communication with the owner and the day of Rex the property manager. When we arrived Rex gave us a detailed tour of the property. It filled all our needs and more. It is a ways from the East entrance of Yellowstone but we knew that prior to booking. Would recommend staying here, very quiet, beautiful views.

Perfect log cabin
This place accommodated our group perfectly! It had everything we needed. Not only was it comfortable with a great view, but it had incredible rustic decor. Rex, the caretaker, was available and so helpful :) This was a great place to stay with a large group and so close to Powell, yet had a rural feel. We highly recommend coming to stay here!

Great family get-away spot!
Rustic, cozy property with a lot of character, history, and Western charm. Perfect for our active family of 6. Consists of several conjoined log cabins that provide plenty of space to meet as a group or to have quiet reading time. Big family room was great setting for family game nights and movie watching. Kitchen was large and well-equipped; some of the cookware could use updating. Quick ride to Cody (20 mins) or Powell (5 mins). We did a wonderful snowmobile tour of Yellowstone and would recommend that to others, weather permitting.
Property manager Rex did a great job of getting us settled in and was very helpful with recommendations for activities and dining out. He went out of his way to help us with a couple special requests. We would recommend this place to family and friends.

Thanksgiving gathering
The property as a whole was great and worked very well for what we were doing. We spent most of our time in the Kitchen and the Dining/Living Room, which were spacious and inviting. The large sliding glass doors all along the back side of the main building added to the openness of the space and made it easy to come and go from more than one door. The rustic nature of the main building was great. The kitchen was well equipped and we used it a lot. The bedrooms were comfortable and there were plenty of extra sheets and comforters. There was ample parking, but because of the layout of the driveways and the narrowness of them, we had to shuffle vehicles occasionally to get people in and out. The entrances are small and it would have been almost impossible to get my large pickup into one of them. There was easier access through the caretakers lot though, so it was not a problem.
The only downside was the cabin that had two bedrooms and its own kitchen. It was not attractive and could use a remodel. It worked well as a sleeping space and we were able to use the stove to supplement additional space needed to prepare our Thanksgiving meal.
The back porch of the main building and the grounds are excellent and would be a great asset in the warm months. It was cold when we were there so didn't get to use it, however, we did use the hot tub, which was wonderful.
My wife and I owned and operated a guest ranch for ten years so we are somewhat particular. We loved this place though and we highly recommend it. The owner and caretaker were easy to communicate with, they were accommodating of our pets and the caretaker did an excellent job of showing me around and getting me familiar with the property. It is well managed and is a great venue for large gatherings.

Like going to camp.
Rustic, interesting, authentic, kitschy, asymmetrical, awkwardly fun, dated.
I found it hard to reconcile the bill with a carpeted bathroom, which is my own personal secret horror. To be fair, the carpeted bathroom was spacious and adequate. But to rent to group after group...? It left me with the sense that proximity to Yellowstone covers all sins. Which is probably true in the rental business.
The indoor space of the main unit is friendly and usable, giving a large group room to spread out and diversify their activities, which was exactly what we needed with two large families with lots of kids. I took stars from the "accuracy of the description" as I found the outdoor space, including the garden, which was more just some wild-ish landscaping of awkward space, to be less usable and amenable than advertised. Other than a good sized porch with grill and hot-tub, I found the lot quite small compared to the impression the online description gave me, and the proximity of the other structures (owner's house, manager's trailer) meant that being outdoors did not appeal as one would hope. The studio space was of a far inferior quality to the main space, and had a weird vibe, as did being warned that a crowd would be using the yard one of the evenings we were there for a "meditation." As for the outdoor space, the owner seems to want both to have a rental property and a personal property, and it's just not that big.
The decor is compelling and coffee table books and taxonomy and stone and logs tell a fascinating, appealing, unpretentious story of life in the West. The hot tub was lovely and the views serene. The kitchen is completely unique, and while not exactly well-appointed, has undeniable charm. There's a lot to be said for this rental. But the carpeted bathroom overwhelms other better memories with shivers in my spine. Might just be me.

Exactly what I was looking for!
I held a family reunion at this property, and EVERYONE loved it. My family typically camps for our family reunions, but as our oldest generation is getting older (75+), I thought it would be good to get a place with beds, but still felt like we were in the beautiful outdoors. This was the place. We had creature comforts as well as space for tents for the younger members of the family. One of the greatest things about this is that we had space to cook and eat our meals together. We were there during a very hot spell and between the AC and fans, we were more than comfortable inside.
Some of my family came in from nearby Cody, and they were surprised to have driven passed this place so many times never knowing the hidden treasure behind the trees. It was very private...our own personal oasis.
I appreciate Dave taking a chance on my group as I wasn't 100% sure how many would be there. And, it worked out well. Also, Rex was great to work with!! Many of my family members enjoyed talking with him about the history of the place and surroundings. He took great care of us.
Would I come here again? I certainly would!!
Thank you Dave & Rex. It was a great place for my family to come together after two long years. -Wylea

The only thing bad that I can say is that I wish it was air conditioned-plenty of room for our 14, very clean, close to grocery store. All in all a good place to stay with large group!

Yellowstone family trip
We decided to visit Yellowstone for our family vacation. A VRBO was a perfect choice because the park hotels and restaurants were packed! From this cabin, Yellowstone is a drive - a little over an hour. But a very pretty drive to the entrance gate. The cabin is very large and fully equipped. The history of the home is very interesting. The entire grounds are covered with bushes, grass, etc which really helps make the home feel secluded. Just a couple of things. The entrance is really hidden. This home has a lot of sliding doors which have seen better days. Other than that, the house was great, the house manager was helpful. I would definitely recommend this property for family gatherings.

True Wyoming charm and character!
We came to town visiting lots of family and friends, and needed a spacious, well-located place to stay. Well, we found it, and then some! The Barrows Retreat is exactly as advertised. The original owner seems to have been quite a character, and the property very much has all the charm of a mini-museum of Wyoming history and art, with a worldly touch. Plenty of comforts and amenities...pretty much nothing is spared, and if you happen to need anything, the property manager lives nearby and is very responsive and helpful.
One of the days, we hosted our family and close friends for a barbecue, and even though we experienced a bit of "springtime in the Rockies" with snow and hail near the end of May, everyone was comfortable. The space was perfect for cooking, entertaining, and unwinding. Even my two teenagers, who are usually hard to impress, were decidedly won over.
The only thing to bear in mind, is that Ralston, WY is a town in name only...basically a post office and a gas station, but it made an ideal home base for us as we shuttled quite a bit between Powell and Cody.
A place as authentic as Barrows Retreat will certainly have its minor quirks, but we enjoyed the fun aspects of that, and the owners and property manager have done everything to ensure the comfort of their guests.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to come back again sometime in the future.

Family Reunion 2021
My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It's location was perfect for traveling into Cody, Powell and beyond. We were on the move most days but nighttime at the Retreat was very relaxing. there were 4 children between the ages of 12 and 6 and there was plenty of space for them to enjoy when we weren't on the move. We also found the decor and history of the retreat very interesting. The property manager, Rex was most helpful, it was reassuring to know we could call him if we needed him. Thanks you for opening your home to our family.

Labor day weekend get-away
This property was a great place for our group to enjoy a Labor day get-away. It was located just a few miles from a gas station and grocery story, with easy access to the City of Cody. We enjoyed the views while relaxing in the hot tub or drinking our morning coffee. After a long day of exploring we were able to come back to BBQ and eat a large meal on the long dinning room table together. The living space was large and open allowing for a relaxing yet cozy environment for all of us. Overall we enjoyed our stay and appreciated the amazing views and cozy home for our get-away.

Barrows Retreat
This property was a little hidden gem about 20 minutes from Cody, WY. The discreet entrance lead to a beautiful home with a nice backyard area, hot tub and even horses that came up to the back fence. The detailed decor in this home made it one of the most beautiful places I've stayed. The kitchen and grill outside was fabulous.
The closest town was Powell, WY and we recommend going to WYOld West Brewing Company for a beer and some lunch while there. The Blairs Market there also sells a huckleberry pie ice cream that was so good.
We also highly recommend driving out to Bighorn Canyon in Lovell, WY . This entrance was about 45 mins away and the drive is really nice. Once you get to the Canyon entrance, we drove through the park up to the Montana state line (about a 30 min drive into the park). We did the Devils Canyon Overlook, State Line Trail and the Two Eagles Trail. All had really amazing views. We saw wild mustangs, a rattlesnake, mountain goats and antelope run through the canyon.
Overall we had an amazing time at the Barrows Retreat and would highly recommend staying there.
