About this cabin rental
Listed as one of "Ten Great Vacation Rentals Vetted by Texas Monthly Writers", this is a peaceful, cozy 1930's waterfront cottage. The expansive back yard leads to your private Guadalupe River (Lake Dunlap) shoreline, ideal for kayaking, paddle-boarding, fishing, swimming, and wildlife viewing. Kayaks and many other amenities are included -- just bring yourselves!
Need more sleeping space? Please inquire about our recently renovated RV on the property, which will accommodate up to 6 guests (Total of 10 guests on the property) for an extra charge.
The cabin is 480 Square feet and built in 1930. A queen, twin, and sofa sleeper allow for a good nights sleep. This is simple studio style therefore all in one room space. A fully stocked kitchen provides the backdrop for a gourmet meal or just BBQ outside in covered BBQ pavilion. Books, Direct TV, WIFI, various DVD's, and board games provide indoor entertainment.
***This being a rustic cabin, it has very little modern day insulation. Please expect that on very hot summer days, the inside temperature may reach the upper 70's, and on very cold nights, may reach the 50's, despite our AC and heaters.***
This area of water is called Lake Dunlap, however the dam broke in 2019, leaving the gently flowing Guadalupe river. Due to extremely limited boat access now, the river is peaceful and quiet, perfect for paddle boarding, swimming, and kayaking. From our dock, the river reaches a depth of 30 feet.
Our dock is large enough for chairs, laying out or running and jumping into the water. We have a grassy “beach type” area in between our backyard and the river. Nearer the cabin, there is a propane grill, a smaller charcoal grill, and a huge offset smoker. All are under a covered pavilion with table and chairs close by.
The back porch and long yard with shady tall trees greet your view of Lake Dunlap. One fire pit with moveable chairs allows for comfort during colder temperatures. Most of your time will be spent here. It's absolutely gorgeous.
This is a great place for pets, but it's not completely enclosed, so bring your leash.

I loved the new two story covered dock with large steps and handrail that makes getting in and out of the lake very easy. The location isn’t secluded but strategic planting of hedges and trees provides privacy for the porch and patio. Owners were easy to reach and responsive.

Quiet and charming. Lake access right out your back door, close to all the major shopping areas. We had a great weekend wish we could have stayed longer. I will be booking this every weekend opprotunity. We usually stay at another area but wanted to try something different and was not dissapointed

Relaxing beautiful property
Small rustic cabin, but huge property with tons to do. The water level for the river is low and most properties around us couldn't even access the water, but this cabin has great access to the water with a floating pier. Loved our stay there.

Really nice little place on the river. Was a bit cold but it is January after all.
Small cabin on the Guadeloupe. Good for one or two people. Fantastic outside facilities.

This was great rental to have during the covid outbreak. With the tubing rentals being closed we still had our on spot on the river, with amazing outside space and activities at this cabin to keep everyone happy and having fun.

It was perfect for us as a couple. Probably best for singles or couples, or small family who spends a lot of time outdoors.
And the outdoors here is truly magnificent!! Expansive pecan-shaded lot, stunning sunset and sunrise views on the water, amazing birdwatching, waterfront location with numerous water activities and equipment provided.
The neighborhood is friendly, peaceful, great for walking. A fun discovery was the Althauser Bauernhof microfarm stand a block away on Potthast Drive where we bought fresh eggs and homemade dog treats.
The cabin is conveniently located an easy drive down FM 725 to New Braunfels. There is a convenience store ~1 mile away and Walgreens ~2 miles away. During our stay we floated the Comal and the Guadalupe rivers, and visited Gruene for shopping and the Guadalupe River state park for fishing and a picnic.
We loved the large charcoal grill where we cooked dinner several nights under the new shaded outdoor cooking patio, and enjoyed the floats, air pumps, folding chairs, beach towels, fishing poles, and so much more that is provided!
We like to cook so were pleased to find the kitchen well-stocked with most of the cookware and dinnerware that we needed, as well as various spices/seasonings, flour, sugar, salt, pepper mill, tea bags, coffee maker, coffee filters, toaster, microwave.
Because of CoVid we came prepared to eat-in even more than usual, and admittedly I did not look very hard because we brought our own, but I did not see a good nonstick pan, a large knife for chopping, or steak knives. I have not found these to be commonly provided items in vacation rentals so this is not a negative, just a heads up to potential renters.
Especially nice touches: LED string lights that safely and beautifully illuminate the path all the way down to the river, bird feeders (numerous cardinals and warblers visited), really comfy bed linens and pillows, quality grilling utensils hanging within hands’ reach of the pit, cushioned chairs for relaxing on the porch.
Especially appreciated were the extra conveniences provided such as dog bowls, charcoal and lighter fluid, shampoo and conditioner, mosquito spray, and a full bag of ice in the freezer. Thank you :)
Amy responded promptly and professionally to all of our correspondences from initial inquiry to checkout.

Lake Dunlap Cabin
We had a very restful time which was exactly what we wanted. The property is excellent. Long grassy yard leading to the water. Fire pit. Hammock. Recreational equipment. Great front and back porches. Cabin is a studio and for two people worked well. Our weather was cold one day and warm another day and there was adequate heating/cooling to be quite comfortable. Only problem was the bathroom —it is very small, toilet a little cantankerous and towels were stored well out of my reach.

Where nature speaks, if you listen.
Beautiful quaint cabin in the woods on the lake. The bird symphony every morning was incredible. Clean property, lots of fun things to do there, outside activities close by, as well. Very peaceful, laid back vibe.

Probably better in the summer
Amy is very sweet and thoughtful, leaving us some wine and candy for our anniversary. She stocked the cabin well, and it was very clean. There was a lovely little Christmas tree in the living area, and she did have an electric heater running when we arrived, But, because the cabin is so old, even with the heater running the entire time, we were freezing. Cold air was leaking in from the outside, and the floors stayed very cold - even with the extra heater we brought from home. Amy did provide a lot a great supplies in which to enjoy the lake - this cabin would be far more enjoyable in the summertime. If there was also a bit more attention to a few other things, we may have stayed longer than one night- it was just too cold and uncomfortable. The following are things we feel would make this cabin a perfect summer getaway: 1 - invest in a shower head that isn’t just a fine spray - the one provided barely wets you down. 2 - replace the hose bib outdoor faucet spiggets in the kitchen with a fixture intended for indoor use that blends hot and cold water - the kitchen faucets leak, and when trying to wash our hands, our left hands were freezing while our right hands were burning. 3 - invest in newer, more comfortable furniture. The couch was stained, old, and over-used. The bed was very old and uncomfortable, with springs poking us in the back. A mattress topper would be a cheap and easy way to fix this issue. 4 - provide a grill that is stocked with a full propane tank that is usable and not falling apart. 5 - provide newer, more comfortable linens and ditch the plastic dishes and overly used cookware. 6 - treat for pests, because I woke up with over 30 bug bites on my body in the morning. In the summertime, there’s no doubt it would have been far more pleasant, because we would have been outdoors most of the time, enjoying the awesome dock, big yard, and all the fun things Amy did provide to enjoy the lake. Amy seems like a lovely woman, and we don’t feel she misrepresented anything. We just feel anyone staying here in the winter needs to be aware of these things. If you’re not stuck in the cabin the whole time due to the cold weather, the cabin is a decent place to stay in which to enjoy the lake.

Cabin at the Lake in September
My wife and 2 dogs enjoyed our stay on the lake. Kayaked, fished, and spent a lot of time watching the dogs swim. Very peaceful. The cabin is small and rustic but has all of the essentials. Highly recommend.

Great location
Amy the owner is great, responding quickly to my emails. The cabin is very old and small but very clean and well equipped. The beds were comfortable with nice linens and lots of nice towels. Outside the yard is shady and peaceful with lots of yard toys and a hammock for relaxing. Amy also includes plenty of things for our water adventures. Big beach towels, water toys, fishing supplies and more. The place is very dog friendly with a cable run for the dogs, dog bowls and a welcome gift our dogs enjoyed greatly.
The location is perfect. On the lake with a nice dock. Everything we wanted to do in New Braunfels was a 20 minute or less drive.
The only thing that keeps me from giving 5 stars is that the cabin does get really warm during the afternoon/early evening. Most days we just moved outside to enjoy the breeze off the lake but it was still warm inside at bedtime.
Overall, great place to stay and we would book again.

Amazing, Cabin, Amazing River, Amazing Weekend
When we first walked in we had personalized greetings with some wonderful goodies. Amy, the owner remember I mentioned that it was my husband’s birthday weekend and had two yummy cupcakes and a candle in the fridge! Can’t believe how thoughtful she is!
Ok now onto the cabin, OMG it is amazing, and the grounds are breath-taking. So cute, clean and well stocked! The cabin was stocked with every necessity imaginable and extras including games, movies, books, tubes, a zip line, gas grill, tons of outdoor seating, cable tv and Wi-Fi!
The grounds are gorgeous, and very well maintained. The river was perfect, we lounged in our tubes and enjoyed the peaceful shady spot for hours! I enjoyed morning coffee on the dock, while my husband did some fishing. We met the neighbors and they were super friendly and welcoming as well.
Property also included a cover parking spot. This was a very fun, private, quiet and restful weekend. On the drive home I was already looking at our calendar to make plans for our return!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this place to anyone!

Best little Cabin and Fun on the Lake!!!
We arrived to the cutest 1 room cabin filled with "if these walls could Talk.. The owners had left us a welcome basket filled with Wine and other local Goodies. This was better than walking into a Hilton Penthouse Suite, which we have, everything you would need for your get away vacation in both inside and not to mention all the toys and barbecues needed for your outside waterfront fun. We only left the property once to enjoy the abundant surrounding entertainment and then back to our very own, hour's of waterfront entertainment watching ,jet skies, boats, and swimming from private Dock. Cannot say enough good about these owners making sure we had everything needed for our getaway and we are not even related or ever met them before, super Host. Me and my Wife cannot wait to book this property again.
